i love the process of watching you paint and while every piece of art is open to interpretation by the viewer I also enjoy your explanations. I understand your motivation and what looks like swirling paint on a canvas at first always turns out to be something far more creative than I imagine it will be. There's probably a good amount of the angst that can be eliminated from the commentary and I would still understand how you got from point A to point B in this painting. Always enjoy it though.

Another great video, interesting topic and painting. I think everyone has their panel of buttons (sore spots), but I wonder if artists and musicians are more susceptible than others to certain their personal emotional triggers. I say so because the best artists seem to be empathic, in that they have an extraordinary sensitivity that lets them to infuse their personal exprnc into their art in a way that strongly connects with other ppl. It seems that same sensitivity makes life more painful.

I think the ego inflates or inflames as a result of emotional injury, similar to the way the tissues that make up our bodies respond to injury. It's natures way of protecting us from further harm. A big ego is a defense or reparation that may, to an extent, work for our emotional well-being.

Self esteem and ego require delicate balancing in order for us to be happy, sincere and honest with ourselves and others. I struggle with self esteem all the time...I definitely don't have an over-abundance, but having too little can make one just as unpleasant and messed up as someone with too much. It just manifests differently. I don't make gender/race/religion jokes because I just can't make a joke sound funny and people can react badly to those sensitive topics. I avoid it like the plague.

I think you're spot on about overcompensating. People who have little self esteem overcompensate by being bossy and talking over everyone with a sense of command. They think they're sounding confident but to me they sound that they're automatically assuming that people are trying to walk over them and they are in defensive mode.

I think ego (or extreme ego) is the extreme end of self-esteem. Self esteem, to me, is just the ability to take others views and comments and say, 'I'm not not sure about that. I'll think about it.' (Then whether you do or not... you've, at least, appeased the moment.

Your painting of socks reminds me of ego

The toe area represents the ego. It knows it is unique but the other toes see it as being an outcast. The toe wiggles alone while the other toes are of one common click. In other words I have way too much time on my hands.
