I was there for this performance and I can confirm that she was singing over the track. You can clearly distinguish between the parts that were her and those of the track. It was 8 something in the morning, you get up and hit a perfect vocal. Mariah Carey is a legend and no matter if she lip syncing, singing live, or singing over a track, there's has never been or will ever be another voice like Ms. Carey!

There is a difference between completely lip synching and using back tracking, there was backtrack after the 1st verse, i believe the 2nd verse was partially her the whistles were her and the belts were her, this is just my professional opinion, still a good job though.

And yes I am a huge, huge fan and have been for many years but unfortunately there are some delusional fans (you happen to be one) that are so so wrong when it comes to telling whether she lip-syncs. If you listen at 1:29 the tone right at the beginning of the whistle passage is a little under the pitch which wasn't so in her recorded version. Another example is in her other whistled run at 2:13, in this passage if you listen closely she clearly slides into the pitch in order to hit the more audible notes more accurately which proves she wasn't lipping.

I'm not going to completely say that i know for sure that its all her but I do think that theres passages where its clearly audible that her mic is on and she is actually singing. I feel like if anything the performance was doubled and there was singing that is played and she doubles it with her live singing (which is done when your in the studio to add depth) but can't be sure. I feel like that would be understandable if she was sick or due to it being so early.

@izzycub Listen to me I'm happy you enjoy my channel and I'm very flattered. And yes I am a huge, huge fan and have been for many years but unfortunately there are some delusional fans (you happen to be one) that are so so wrong when it comes to telling whether she lip-syncs. The live vocals in this performances were about 5% of it with most of her live vocals being sung with a vocal behind her to thicken it. Peace be with you! X

what Mariah do sometimes (traveling for long times and don't sleeping, or just a cold) is sing with pre-recorded tracks, they are different from the CD version.

Totally not lip synched, that was clearly live. I've listened to this song a million times, and can easily tell the difference. She did extremely well.

do not see it bored when singing the song. She just runs with heart, does not sing by singing or sell many discs as Lady GaGa, or Beyoncé. Do not know what would I do without these beautiful songs of Mariah we do reflect and overcome life's obstacles. But I agree in part, in its next music CD hope more cheerful and romantic as its stylized E = MC ².

i really think that her more often than not tired look and less than impressive live performances really affected her record sales. i mean, why would people go out and spend money to buy an album wherein the artist itself looks bored singing the songs. don't get me wrong, i am a true blue lamb, but i have to say that Mariah needs to step up again if she wants to have a successful year like 2005, especially in the midst of talented and younger artists like Beyonce and Lady Gaga.

@airebon Listen to all the whistles. They are all completely lipped. If you listen to the rest of the performances from this day she struggles, yet she doesn't here. Listen to the version on Letterman. It's actually live for the most part. I love Mariah, but she just can't perform like she used too. She hasn't taken care of her voice and it shows.

@meboobrat Oh I know. All of the whistles are lipped except for the next to last one after she holds "baby". It has a very noticeable and audible difference than the rest of them. But she actually sings the song live for the most part. Such a great voice gone to shreds =(

@svhs02 i can agree on on dis 2 an extent...there had been live performances that she has done extremely well on tho she may have struggled thru....However (as a singer myself) your voice changes the older yu get and sometimes and you may not be able 2 sing notes as well as u used to but its like you dont wanna accept the fact that you have to adjust...i think she isnt as good as the old mariah but she isnt horrible

@Kbyrd2011 What about all those? Her entire Christmas Special was auto-tuned too Hell. Obvious by the fact that they forgot to turn it off in between songs when she was talking. She lipped ALL of her whistle notes. The entire AA Tour was a joke full of lip synching. Emotions on that tour was a joke. She's famous for her whistles and she lips them. No way she can sound EXACTLY the same as the record from 20+ years ago when doing them. Her IWKWLI performances were all a mix of pre-recorded

@Kbyrd2011 AND live vocals. All the whistle runs were pre-recorded and she even re-used one for another television performance. She's not what people make her out to be anymore. She can't do what she used to. She's steadily declined after the Emancipation album and tour and it shows with her performances.

@svhs02 The whistle runs are live. You can see the change in inflection in the note from when her tongue moves. She struggles because it is early morning and cold outside; the vocal chords are muscles they constrict when cold.

@svhs02 I could see why you would think that, but her whistle toned passages aren't lipped. If you listen at 1:29 the tone right at the beginning of the whistle passage is a little under the pitch which wasn't so in her recorded version. Another example is in her other whistled run at 2:13, in this passage if you listen closely she clearly slides into the pitch in order to hit the more audible notes more accurately which proves she wasn't lipping.

I'm not going to completely say that i know for sure that its all her but I do think that theres passages where its clearly audible that her mic is on and she is actually singing. I feel like if anything the performance was doubled and there was singing that is played and she doubles it with her live singing (which is done when your in the studio to add depth) but can't be sure. I feel like that would be understandable if she was sick or due to it being so early.

This CD TANKED around the world and NOW her record company is DESPERATE to make some of their money back and is RE-RELEASING it in a remixed format to Target and iTunes. Its been delayed TWICE, her second CD in a row to be delayed. Her boss' job is now on the line, which means hers is too. If she is let go it will be the third record co to drop her. YEAH!!
