Monks who renounced the world and get back to the world by doing demonstrations? Leave the world to the laity and concentrate on your spiritual path. You have deviated your spiritual practice,so to say. The world is never perfect nor will it.
The Tathagata will never be distinguished by these wrong viewed and corrupt officials the Buddha spoke clearly of killing monks you will pay later for your transgressions and high crimes
alright, when buddhist monks start rebelling some thing is seriously @%#*ed up.we all need to join the rebellion against burma's uppresing government, for they have betrayed and have killed many of their people!
Not funny at all. Actually, Buddhist monks have been and are always leading the social and political changes throughout times and all over the world. Look at Dalai Lama of Tibet (Isn't he leading the non-violence campaign over the oppressive regime of China now?), Buddhist monks in Vietnam during the early communist regime burnt themselves as a protest against the oppressive regime of the communist government) and etc.
Are you talking about Thich Quang Duc, the monk that burned himself, then yes, it was actually a way to raise awareness and protesting against the South vietnamese government suppressing Buddhism and forcing them to be catholic.
Never underestimate the power of the Religious. Pope John Paul II was instrumental in the downfall of Communism - These Holy Buddhist Monks will be the catalyst in bringing democracy to Burma! God Bless the Buddhist Monks !!!! THEY ARE GREAT!
So now people of Myanmar should talk and talk to the officers and soldiers to make them go out of the barracks and move on the side of monks and ordinary people. That move will bring total success as an affect of a snow ball. People should talk more to the soldiers and bring them food and agitate them to support monks. People of Myanmar need just few brave officers to start and then victory will come very quickly. People should not stay on one place. People should move very quickly.
Russian people very friendly and very emotionally support moral resistance of people of Myanmar who went to the streets showing people's will to stop military dictatorship.
In Russia in 1917 February revolution started when some army and police units not only refused to shoot people but few regiments turn to the side of protesters and supported the democratic revolution. Few regiments went into the streets of the capital with guns and protected people very effectively.
those are images of Lord Buddha. the images tell his life story in brief. he was born in india and his movement did not spread to the orient until 1000 years after his disappearance from our mortal view. see video description for more info.

Admittedly I am not specialist in Vietnam, but wasn't the burning against the South Vietnamese government which was catholic?

Anyone know why there is Hindu imagery scattered throughout this video? Seems odd.
