  • i like this look! how would i do the spike stitch as an EDGE around scarves? i notice different size holes around it when i did.

    thanks!

  • @kitkatNEF You can work it as an edge. Since the stitches shift and will be different on rows, you would have to carefully select your hook placement, possibly working between strands(splitting) or the actual yarn to make it even. I hope that makes sense.

  • thanks Teresa its really very beautiful stitch

  • hello that such points are great would like to know if the string ends in odd or even ask, but forgive me esque no English and had to translate comments for noticing but I believe in none appears please help me greetings from mexico lily atte

  • clean your nails first

  • @6ILLUMI6NATED6 clean you attitude first . concentrate on the thing what she want to show and teach us

  • @soccersof711 Thank you for your comment! Anything worthwhile will take practice! I am happy that you are still crocheting!

  • when you are doing the spike stitch and the single crochet to lock it, are you picking up just one loop? It looks like you are just going through the single back loop. I am an absolute novice at this, so I really need a complete explaination of each step. I have scoured the internet and have found your videos are the best....love your style.

  • Thanks so much Theresa for replying so soon! I am a subscriber to your videos as you are such a good teacher!

  • @silentwriterofpa You are welcome. You may end up with some extra chains at the end. All you will need to do is sew them in between the stitches. There is no reason to rip if you are unable to get the stitches to match the chain.

  • If you want to make a full sized afghan how many stitches would you cast on?

  • @silentwriterofpa You will make a chain of about 180-250.

  • damn u move way too fast!!!!!!!!!!!! the picture is so good i dont want to look at other gurus- slow down! pretty please lol

  • @alivegas254 Did you miss the slow motion at time code 3:53? If you are new to crochet, I have a lot of beginner tutorials with slow motion.

  • @tjw1963 I did, I didn't stay that long : /

  • I love this pattern but I am completely annoyed with myself as I have managed to completely mess it up. LOL. I'm watching this again to learn what I did wrong.

  • can you use this as a hat pattern??

  • @skyegose Yes, it would work great for a hat! It has great flexibility which will work even better for a hat.

  • i never looked threw all the comments but i was wondering would this stitch be suitable to make a hat out of?? I was thinking of trying it out

  • Can someone help? I'm brand new,I mean brand new to crochet. I do my first row the chain, then go on to triple stitch on the second row,and the piece gets all wavy and curves a lot. Any advice? What am I doing wrong?

    Thanks so,so much!!!

  • @Unsolvedfanatic I do have a symbol chart posted on my crochet blog. The link to the instructions is posted in the video details below the video.

  • @Unsolvedfanatic Also make sure that you do not do the 1st row of chains too tightly. It was cause it your piece to buckle. Just make practice pieces to figure out your tension and the great thing about crochet is you can rip it out and not waste your yarn. Good luck and keep practicing.

  • @Unsolvedfanatic Sounds like your chain and first row are not the same tightness. If your chain is really tight and your first row looser then it will curve around your chain. If the chain is huge and the first row really tight then it will curve around the first row. I would guess your chain is probably too tight?

  • @Unsolvedfanatic what i do to fix it is add an extra stitch when done everyother row

  • hi can you do a video on making earrings on a hoop?

  • @Kuervita77 Very nice blanket! Happy birthday to your friend.

  • I have just learned how to crochet from one of your other videos. On this one (the spike), why are you going thru the back part of the chain only when you are single crocheting?

    Cindy

  • What does the spike stitch look like on the back?

  • tks i think i can do it... thank you

  • hi teresa,

can i do this pattern with 3 ply yarn? which of your pattern wud luk gud with 3 ply or baby yarn for making an afghan.. i tried abstract cats.. but not luking gud with 3 ply..

  • can you name a list of some of the stitches starting from a more begginers upward?? I self taught myself a mistake stitch which I like but I want to learn some others as well.

  • If you click on my main page and then go to the playlists. You can look through the stitches I have posted. Some of the same crochet stitches will go by 3 different names or more.

  • hi Teresa, i just want to ask if i want to continue the pink color on of it, do i still need to cut it off at the 1st? Thank you. :D

  • If you are going to continue with the same color, it is not necessary to cut.

  • Teresa you are awesome!!!! You are the first person that has taught me the grannie stich. You just don't know how many people I asked and all they did was confused me even more. Your videos are perfect and I got it well you're a heck of a instructor. Thank you so much and God bless.

  • Thank you, I appreciate the comment.

  • hey there can you this stitch in a hat pattern , also do you know of any patterns with this stitch involved

  • You can replace this stitch as your main pattern stitch. For instance if you purchase a sweater pattern that uses the single crochet. You can use this stitch instead.

  • okay thanks i will try doing this for my next project

  • can u do this with one color

  • Yes you can. You will still be able to see the spike texture effect. If you wanted to, you can spike down one more row, to highlight the spike more since you are using one color.

  • Are you working back-loop only on row 5?

  • I go through both loops for the whole thing. You can go through only 1 if you want to.

  • Teresa, I found the chain's I need for the large afghan and for baby one on your pattern instructions. sorry I should have looked before posting an asking. Thank You

  • How many chain's would I need to make a large afghan and for a baby afghan ? Lovely Pattern you do an Awsome job.

  • Thank you for being here on youtube! Its because of you that I now make hats to sell to all of my friends. I was wondering how to make a tablecloth. I bought a book showing different kinds of stitches but if I don't have a pattern how will I start? Doing the math calculations are a nightmare for me, it like speaking another language.. Help!!!

  • Crochet is nothing more than repetition. When you are working with pattern stitches, they are sets of repetition. If you are making a tablecloth out of a motif, you keep adding squares until you get the size you want. A lot of times, when you are making your foundation chain with rows, there is an amount of guesstimation anyway because most people have a different tension than the author of a book.

  • The first part of the multiple is how many chains it takes to make each individual pattern stitch. What you can do is to crochet a small amount of the pattern stitch. You will want to do at least 4 inches. You use that sample to figure the measurements for the larger piece you will be making.

  • hi teresa this pattern can i make for pillow-case thankyou.

  • Yes you can. :)

  • Another one of your stitches that I never saw before. You're great!

  • very nice

  • Lovely stitch! it makes for such a nice pattern with changing colors!!

Also, very nice to see how you add rows, mine always turn out lumpy but I see now why!!

    THANKS AGAIN!!

  • You are welcome. :)

  • i use to knit all the time...but because of u...i am soooooo hooked on crocheting....now again. ha ha!...thank u....its a fun change!

  • You are welcome. :)

  • im working on a zig zag afgan almost done :D is there any reason you use half double crochet or do you just like it better?

  • The last part of the video shows the double crochet also. You can use either one of them.

  • I just finished an afghan and this i my next one!!!!!! Thanks Teresa!!!!

  • You are welcome.
