  • @lamontsanford33830 That's actually the Blood Mountain shelter.

  • YOU'RE FRANKLIN! holy crap man small world!!

i didn't know all the names were changed...well..padre's wasnt, but i didnt know that yours was. wow thats amazing! that gives new life to that book, which i loved. in fact i'm sending it to my grandfather, my grandma just passed away.

i'm hoping to do my thru hike in a couple years. we're having a baby in a month so i wont be able to go for a while.

  • oh my gosh you met padre and apostle!! i have read apostle's book and read about padre. so crazy to put faces to the names...wow...amazing. i can't wait for my own thru hike!

  • @TheFurnitureGuys

I was and am good friends with both Apostle and Padre. I am known as "Franklin" in Apostle's book.

    -Hometown

  • @etroutski I've been to Charlies Bunoin, stayed atop mount LeConte at the camp, really damn cold in the winter

  • @Reitheelf , Bad Idea hitch-hiked into Hiwassee, Ga. by himself and got picked up by a perv.

In retrospect it was a "bad idea"

  • I'm leaving to go NOBO in 4 1/2 wks, what time of year did you start?

  • @REDSOXNYG I started March 21st

  • 3 lazy recliner potatoes rated this vid

  • Do it if you can....I'm envious.....

  • SUPERCHUNK RULES! thanks for sharing

  • Stay out of Maine! :)

  • Nice video! Great Music too!

  • Great Vid! Im training for the AT doing heavy load winter hikes, going to do CT thru VT hopefully over the Summer!

Howd Y'all get those trail names?

  • @RootBoot22 Hey RootBoot, if you hike the trail this summer, you'll get a trailname, for sure!

    Happy hiking!

  • @RootBoot22 ..... I am Scraper 11. Best trail names are those that are spontaneous from a situation or event that happened on trail. When I first set foot on the Appalachian Trail (smokies section) on 4 / 11/ 10 at 11:11 A.M. EST.....I was full of sooooo much joy and absolute AHHHH and wasn't paying attention to my footing. Not even a minute of being on trail, myself and all my gear on my back went down, scraping the whole front part of my shin from knee to ankle. Scraper 11. :-)

  • I would keep keep my pack light, not set my sights on big miles days til Virginia, and bring a warm bag, February is COLD!

    Enjoy, happy hiking!

  • ha ha i couldnt even finish watchin the rest of this video. makes me want to start another thru! what a great experience. something i will hold with my the rest of my life!

  • i like the not homeless sign but actually you are homeless for awhile

  • Is the pic of Tree and Moonpie in the lookout tower at Wayah Bald?

  • No, it's the old CCC shelter at Blood Mountain:)

  • how does one go about getting trail names ? my best friend and i are planning to hike the old A.T. before college! 5/5 love the video.

  • Trail names can be self-given or happen spontaneously. It's one of the great quirks of the social aspect of the trail. There may be 10 Nates hiking the trail that year, but only one "SuperChunk".

Look at Trailplace or Whiteblaze for good info on hiking.

  • bears den hostel great ppl...all best wishes to hopefull and family and new lil baby dont ever change and thank you....superknife

  • I love that song... Very catchy.

  • It has been a while since I watched this, brings back many memories. I think am going to try to convince Karen to let me finish the trail next year.

  • You would really enjoy it, Lucasz. I think VT, NH, and ME are the best part of the trail, so maybe the best is yet to come. Tell Karen I said "Hi".

    Good hearing from you!

  • Hometown, I've watched this a few times. Figured I need to comment. Great video 7 pics.

    Ghosthiker

  • Maaan, that was really great. Hope to make a video like it next year.

  • I like your pictures. I attempted a thru-hike in 2000 and only made it from springer to damascus, va until I had to quit due to having extreme asthma problems. I miss the trail. Long distance backpacking is not something you can explain to the average person.

  • Thats funny man! I hiked with a lot of them......I miss the trail....

    --Beavis '08---

  • hihi nice

  • Oh man!, looks like you had so much fun. I can't wait to start thru with my brother on may20. Im just scared that I will give up due to green tunnel syndrome. Physically should be good, gearwise as well. Happy Trails!

  • Hometown, its Jukebox (the Jukebox who hiked with Wet Sox) hope all is well! what are you up to?

  • Hey Jukebox, it's good to hear from you. All is well here, I'm back to work. I did have a visit from Padre last week. It's good to see trail buddies! You planning on TrailDays this Spring?

  • which shelter in the smokies was that? never seen one so crowded!!

  • I loved that hostel haha. I hiked from Grayson Highlands into Damascus this summer. Probably my most relaxing hostel stay so far. Met some great people there.

  • Hey Homey-- It's Pineknot. I loved the video. It brought back some good memories and made me really happy. Thank you.

  • At 2:32, is that a picture of the damascus virginia hostel?

  • That's what I figured man! We need to hook up, next time you come to A-town, let me know!

    Tell Moonpie, Hi!

  • This is TREE from TN the country rebel!!

  • Thanks, Who are you????
