@fastandfurioustokyo you have to understand that the f-22 is an expensive useless piece of equiptment. we havnt even used the f-22 in combat at all yet and i doubt we ever will. there are no air wars going on in the world. fighter jet dog fights happen in movies not in real life. the f-22 is a cold war era concept. its not longer needed. the apache longbow is about 1/8 the cost and its about 10 times as usefull in real world combat.
Anyways, the F-22 is great and a huge advancement in technology, but the price is simply too high to justify it's capabilities. Don't think we're getting rid of them, we're not; that would be a bad idea. There's new aircraft that can be stealth and out perform most fighter jets and are much, much cheaper than the F-22.

The people we are fighting and have been fighting since Vietnam have figured out the majority of Americans are naive pussies. If you can make the war last long enough and kill enough of our soldiers then we will eventually leave. The way to do this is not to fight like a regular army because we would destroy them. They do it using guerilla tactics. Hit and run, booby traps, IEDs, using civilians as cover, suicide bombers, all that shit. If we faced another standing military we would win.
But the US military is not built solely to fight a standing army. In fact, I'd argue that the US army has some of the greatest small war, counter-insurgency, counter-terrorist, counter-guerilla capabilities of any nation. That's the primary focus of the Army Special Forces, and they are able to bring the massive resources of the air force into even the most remote mountains or crowded city streets. No other army can touch that.
Special forces are always trained to fight unconventional warfare but the average GI is trained to fight a conventional war. That is why we historically have trouble fighting unconventional wars.

From what I understand, AtA carry lighter payloads than and are highly maneuverable to engage agile targets like aircraft. Their security forces are doing there best in a situation where the enemy uses hit and run tactics which in reality isn't a conventional war, its a urban guerrilla war. The people we are fighting and have been fighting since Vietnam have figured out the majority of Americans are naive pussies. If you can make the war last long enough and kill enough of our soldiers then we will eventually leave. The way to do this is not to fight like a regular army because we would destroy them. They do it using guerilla tactics. Hit and run, booby traps, IEDs, using civilians as cover, suicide bombers, all that shit. If we faced another standing military we would win.

But the US military is not built solely to fight a standing army. In fact, I'd argue that the US army has some of the greatest small war, counter-insurgency, counter-terrorist, counter-guerilla capabilities of any nation. That's the primary focus of the Army Special Forces, and they are able to bring the massive resources of the air force into even the most remote mountains or crowded city streets. No other army can touch that.

Special forces are always trained to fight unconventional warfare but the average GI is trained to fight a conventional war. That is why we historically have trouble fighting unconventional wars.

It's funny though, they consistently fight people who are many levels of technology below them, and yet they consistently LOSE. They lost in Vietnam. They lost in Korea. They lost in Iraq (really, let's be honest), they have basically lost in Afghanistan. I think if they took on someone closer to their technology they'd have a MUCH better chance, cause at least it would be a fair fight. HMMV's are useless against a Toyota Landcruiser and an RPG in the hands of a nutcase.

takes out radars n equipment emitting any kind of radiation, waves etc. uses the incoming radar wave to guide itself to the radars location, radar can be turned off to confuse the missile, but then the attacking plane can fire an ATG n get time to turn back. Missile is not capable of midcourse updates given that its fired at a short distance

@newbe83 Only the F-15 has never been shot down in combat. A USAF F-16 has been shot down over serbia. The movie, "Behind Enemy Lines" was based off of that, except the movie depicted it being the Navy and a F/A-18 instead of a USAF F-16.

Haha, not true. Don't listen to that propaganda, there is nothing magical about these planes, they're good but with flaws. Many F-16 and possibly F-15 were shut down in the 1982 war over Lebanon. IDF lies of course, but Russian and other sources show a more realistic exchange ratio.

From what I understand, AtA carry lighter payloads than and are highly maneuverable to engage agile targets like aircraft. AtG are heavier, less maneuverable, and are designed to destroy heavy armor and fortifications. You could use an AtA on something on the ground, but it wouldn't hit nearly as hard as the AtG.

We are not winning Iraq. There is nothing to win. This is a war on terrorism, not Iraq. It's a common mistake losts of people make: thinking we're at war with Iraq. We're in Afghanistan too, and I'm sure we're in other places as well.
Forget WW1, that is the past.
Russia was very powerful back in the Cold War (I will not comment on their current power, as I am unaware of their current power). It wasn't all ICBM's, we were both producing weapons that were designed to kill each other.
