Obviously can't comment all that much about Tennessee, but I have lived for a time in Huntsville AL just across the state line. The few cops encountered traveling through Tennessee (traffic stops for speeding, chance encounters during meal or fuel stops, etc) seemed amiable enough. None hassled me in any way.

There is no such crime as "verbal abuse of a Police Officer" show me what statute and code in any state has that statute. That's just made up garbage. "Trespassing" is a minor class b misdemeanor and cannot be "selectively" enforced if the property is being used for a "public" function. "Trespassing on a construction site" is a Class C Felony. The officer clearly violated constitutional rights, is completely wrong, and having realized his error, beats a hasty retreat.

Schools are owned by the county and they if they have a justifiable reason, they can have someone removed from the grounds. Look it up if you don't believe me, it varies state to state but the every state has a law about trespassing on school grounds.

I called both the Fairfax County (VA) school district, and my own, and BOTH indicated (one implicitly, the other explicitly) that posters (even one's with PICTURES) expressing one's views on healthcare would be allowed on school property after hours, and particularly during a town-hall type of meeting being held at the school.
There is nothing reasonable about suspending someones first amendment rights, and as a member of the public...during a public meeting, the protester was fully within his rights.

I'm a resident of Fairfax Co. Political posters are all OVER the school grounds during and before elections. The only regulation is that the state doesn't allow pollsters within a certain number of feet of the school IF it is a polling place. It's not a lot of feet either, because they sit next to the sidewalks with their tables that are all set up, giving out information on "how to cast your vote" using their candidates in HUGE print with an X by them to demonstrate how to "vote correctly".

I just called again. Got the same woman. After she had identified me as the same person she had spoken to earlier, and realized I was persistent in asking the same question, she transferred me to someone else (without telling me she was going to do so).
I repeated my question for the "new" lady. She directed me to the Fairfax County Public School website (fcps-dot-edu), and told me to search for "policies" and/or "political", and that I could find answers to my question.
Really? Then why didn't the "cop" target any of the OTHER posters on school property? I'll tell you why, from his own words: "Because THIS one's got a picture on it". Note it wasn't because of it being "political". No, it was because it had a PICTURE on it. Try defending THAT.
Whey then did they the school board allow a political town hall meeting to be held on school property? So they can stifle any opposition. It is not the same if someone wants to come on school property during school hours to protest and disrupt the educational process. When that 60's holdover stated that schools have very different rights on free speech is not for the reason not to disrupt a political meeting. Those different rights dont apply as that guy states in that type of forum.
We have to stop playing their game and start serving them with papers. Costs 50 bucks but if you have a lawyer who wants to do some pro-bono you can get it done for free as many times as you want. Just file civil rights discrimination charges and ruin these peoples lives for a little while. They can make up laws all day long but get them on the stand defending themselves and then they can explain what's happening in your video.

Her response was to repeat her prepared reply about "allegations"; I interrupted her and repeated what I had said earlier, that I was NOT making any allegation regarding Wesley Cheeks, Jr., but was simply trying to find out the Fairfax County School District's position on politicial posters on school grounds.
Her response was to let out a brief laugh, then repeat another portion of her prepared reply. I again interrupted her, and repeated my question, "Does the Fairfax County School District allow political posters on school property after school hours?" She then hung up on me.
I was not rude in any way (I did gently interrupt her at least twice, when she attempted to NOT address my questions). She simply was not willing to let me know the District's policy in this matter.
That cop is ignorant. He needs a job on a road crew somewhere. There needs to be an I.Q. test and Constitution Exam for all Law Enforcement because they hold a lot of power to ruin peoples lives. We need to keep up the pressure~ Long Live the Republic!

Of course, never said that. Instead, said no right is unlimited. Each right has to be balanced against the rights, safety, and dignity of others. That's why each has historically (since country was founded) been restricted in some manner in certain venues and circumstances. I'd prefer no such restrictions, but some obviously cannot behave in a civil manner without that.

The few cops encountered traveling through Tennessee (traffic stops for speeding, chance encounters during meal or fuel stops, etc) seemed amiable enough. None hassled me in any way.

Wow, this shows how officers (black or white) can easily violate our rights as citizens by scare tactics, and basically impose THEIR beliefs (in this case he is clearly an Obama supporter) through force. This protester was doing nothing wrong, he was simply exercising his first amendment right. And the fact that the officer says that he can charge him with whatever he wants clearly shows that he is not upholding the law, but instead making up his own laws.

WRONG! Especially when the property is being used for a public function like a town hall meeting. There is no such crime as "verbal abuse of a Police Officer" show me what statute and code in any state has that statute. That's just made up garbage. "Trespassing" is a minor class b misdemeanor and cannot be "selectively" enforced if the property is being used for a "public" function. "Trespassing on a construction site" is a Class C Felony. The officer clearly violated constitutional rights, is completely wrong, and having realized his error, beats a hasty retreat.

The school board says they don't want certain posters up and so the officer was enforcing that. It doesn't matter why the schools didn't want it up, its their property and they have the right to do that; just like you have the right to not want me posting signs in your front yard.

Trespassing is a state law and the school board has nothing to do with law making, but they are the ones in charge of public schools they can decide what signs can and can't be put up. Schools are owned by the county and they if they have a justifiable reason, they can have someone removed from the grounds. The difference being that she was inside with a sign at a town hall, where they stated that no posters were to be brought in and displayed and this guy is outside the town hall with a sign, where there were no restrictions on signs in or outside the meeting. The rules inside are different, kind of like how they pick and choose who would ask the questions. She also was being Disorderly. Also being he is School "Security" he can not arrest anyone. Only Police can bring make an arrest.

I called both the Fairfax County (VA) school district, and my own, and BOTH indicated (one implicitly, the other explicitly) that posters (even one's with PICTURES) expressing one's views on healthcare would be allowed on school property after hours, and particularly during a town-hall type of meeting being held at the school.
This has nothing to do with Bush.

The reason we have the first amendment is to protect people's rights to disagree. It might not be "popular" speech...but isn't the reason we need a constitutional protection of free speech is to protect that speech which is "unpopular?" After all...if the only thing a person had to say was in total agreement with everyone else, nobody WOULD oppose the speech. It's my opinion that the officer was violating the law by intimidating someone in order to quell that person's consitutional right.

No I don't come from any era where I would recall any pictures like the ones you speak of and I was raised to not be racist. I didn't know what racism was. I had so many black friends coming up, I never really knew of racism. It never crossed my mind as a child, and when I eventually saw it in other people, I didn't understand it. Still don't. I'm a resident of Fairfax Co. Political posters are all OVER the school grounds during and before elections. The only regulation is that the state doesn't allow pollsters within a certain number of feet of the school IF it is a polling place. It's not a lot of feet either, because they sit next to the sidewalks with their tables that are all set up, giving out information on "how to cast your vote" using their candidates in HUGE print with an X by them to demonstrate how to "vote correctly".

I just called again. Got the same woman. After she had identified me as the same person she had spoken to earlier, and realized I was persistent in asking the same question, she transferred me to someone else (without telling me she was going to do so).
I repeated my question for the "new" lady. She directed me to the Fairfax County Public School website (fcps-dot-edu), and told me to search for "policies" and/or "political", and that I could find answers to my question.

When that 60's holdover stated that schools have very different rights on free speech is not for the reason not to disrupt a political meeting.
