  • I love Anky, I dont care if she uses rolkur! its just a training method. Ive seen dark sides of so called natural horsemanship.. and i think thats more abusive than rolkur. Im not condoning the use of rolkur as there are somewhat preferred methods. But you cant judge someones training method without riding the horse.

Ive used slight rolkur for my tb mare as she is a shit of a horse, shes gone from a rearing neverous mess to a state champion!

  • This horse seems relaxed to me. I think that she is very talented and i love her riding. I think that if the horse wasnt relaxed, he wont be able to perform such a lovely ride. I have seen not relaxed horse...trust me. He bite his bit and shaked his head. If the horse wasnt relaxed....he couldnt work with his front legs. I think its amazing....i rode a dressage too and i love it.

  • I fully agree ThexMinE. This looks great, but unfortunately, the price many of these horses pay is very high. The Roll-kur does not allow for collection, but causes restriction. I would recommend you read Dr. Gerd Heuschmann's book "Tug of War: Classical versus "modern" dressage.

  • I was there for this performance and it was simply amazing. The horse looks very relaxed to me and if he wasn't he wouldn't be able to perform as he does.

  • it's a fucking pitty that she's still allowed to ride...

  • Anky is almost my all-time favourite rider, but I just can't get over the fact that she uses rollkur. I used to look up to her so much! Then I heard how she rode and was so disappointed. Ah well, she's still aight. :P

  • can't see how this is entertainment, it's fucking abuse.

  • Ridiculous how her other video where she's literally jumping up and down she's so stiff and jerking the reins has had its comments disabled, isn't it?

  • yes, i can see this horse is so abused. his tail swishing casually and his ears pricked forward, obvious signs of maltreatment. Maybe someone should get an international aid society to recruit a celebrity to raise money to save this horse from the horrible life of satisfying work and loving partnership.

  • could tell me all the songs in this video? thanks

  • @laia94bdn Please check the video's description. Thank you!

  • Rollkur...... that horse hardly looks destroyed to me. In fact he looks pretty darn fabulous!!

  • Anky is one of the most amazing riders I have ever watched. For those of you "hating" her.... out of curiosity .... are you western riders??

  • @Boxerlady57 Anky rides western as well.

  • to all of you 'hating' her, why did she get to the olympics if she is a bad rider?

FEI should have banned her long ago if she was an awfull rider that abuses horses.

  • @saminiky well she openly trains in the Rollkur, Hyperflextion method. FEI actually cracked down on this method due to it's negative physical and mental effects on the horse. she's not a BAD rider. there are worse. but this method is not and should not be used as any training alternative.

  • She is disgusting! Enter "Anky van Grunsven talks about her method"

There SHE ADMITS THAT SHE USES ROLLKUR!

For those who still don't believe it!

  • This is beautiful =D

  • Does anyone know what breed he is and if he is up for breeding??

  • lol i have a crack C to he is 6 years and he is very relaxed XD if you a corrot hit's i'm, he is not impresed XD

  • May I ask what Rollkur is?

  • @twifan1011 It's basically a training method mostly developed by Anky. Do you see how overflexed her horse is? How the nose almost touches the chest? It's absolutely unnatural, unhealthy, and horribly damaging. It's taught using extremely harsh bits. That horse is in no way relaxed. Ugh, I hate it.

  • @twifan1011

Rollkur is flexion of the horse's neck achieved through aggressive force,

FEI, though differentiates Rollkur and riding of the horse in a deep outline not achieved by force.

  • @Cacia97 well not even aggressive force, but through excessive training, and over working the long muscles of the back, until the horse has no other comfortable alternative but to be deep and round...if one could even call that rubbish "comfortable"...i think not.

  • How can someone like rollkur?! YOU DESTROY THE HORSE, CAN'T YOU SEE THAT!?

  • this is well good <3 x

  • ik vind het zo goed

  • just lovely.

  • As long as there are still people, who dont understand that those, who are training there horses with methods that are already known for causing long-term damage, shouldn`t be allowed to ride in public at this level, every horse-lover should confront those with the fact that this kind of riding is wrong.

  • Maybe its no Rollkur (I think nobody would dare to perform it in public) but the head is behind the vertical. And that is wrong.

He is NOT relaxed. Foaming so much is actually a sign for STRESS!

Foaming so that there is only a small white line is correct. The horses mouth snaps and everyone can see the stress in his face. Of course its a little bit because of the concentration and tension but I've already seen horses performing difficult figures with an relaxed expression-> (Seidel + Aragon)

  • But when you look at the classical riders, and how moves like piaffe and passage are traditionally meant to be performed, the horses head rises above the vertical, and so in the sense that the dressage world is NOW about being 'pretty', any horse/rider combo can be abusive and harsh.

I don't like Anky, she has major skills but her training. . apparantly Western riders aren't too happy to have her now.

  • I used to admire this lady so much

  • Hello Evander. 2011!

Come water ski with me Evander.

  • Hello Evander.

  • SURE it's beautyful how the horse moves in harmony with the music.

The problem is - everyone who knows Anky van Grumsh ens trainingmethods will know that nne thing is achieving beautyful results in natural ways, but quite another thing is achieving them through force intimidation and mechanics which is no art.

And as long as people admire and praise people like Anky who use force and intimidation in their training, we' will never have TRUE beauty in dressage.

  • Its so disappointing to see such high level riders resorting to harsh methods... Rollkur doesn't allow the horse's body and back to move freely, causing many physical problems down the line. I originally admired Anky but since I learned that she uses rollkur and have seen how uncomfortable this horse looks, I am no longer a fan.

  • das die die noch beklatschen...eh-.-

  • @lindschenxD lol you shut up, a coulpe of years ago a famous rider named christine W. (German) abused her horse for one year and he died almost there for her eyes and she did NOTHING. she smashed him with ropes, sweeps and all that shit. she ride him so badly that the mouth of the horse was bleeding and there were so many scars, on the legs, on the back EVERYWHERE. Anky would nevr do that to her horses NEVER. So if she want to ride a rollkur, she can do that, because she can do it horsefriendly.

  • @blitziee rollkur, in no way possible, is HORSE FRIENDLY

  • i thik this is a very nice dressage, but the way her horses have to learn to dance like this is not OK.

  • i hate her

  • Anky is the MEANEST person in the world!!! She rides in rollkur!!!

    dandenkjeaanbrabant.nl

  • @101dancey Are you kidding me? This stallion has wonderful movement! His action ("leg flicking") is amazing. He is completely fluid and may seem choppy because Anky's shortening his stride for a change/slowing of gait or maybe because shes asking him for a different movement.

  • I love dressage to music- its like the perfect dance

  • No matter what horse, she is still queen of the dance. Great music and foot falls timing. Thanks for the video.

  • verry nice

  • the movement's aren't as natural as some of her otehr horses this one seams very stiff and flick's it's leg's out alot

  • what happened to the horse she rode in the olympics- the black one?

  • @QueenBeatlesWings

nothing, he is still training and riding.

this is an old video :)

  • i could freak out if i just see her. horrible

  • You are so lucky to have seen such an outstanding performance. Being a dressage rider, I agree with lettertolavin. An abused horse wouldn't make such well put together movements. They would most likely be choppy and short, as if the sooner it gets it done, the less time for punishment there is. Please all Anky haters, hear me out.

  • I thought you were supposed to be quiet during dressage performances. So I've heard.

  • brilliant!! most amazing dresage star!!!

  • Any one who is able to win three individual gold medals at the Olympics and multiple world cup titles clearly has a horse that enjoys her and tries to please her. If the methods she used hurt a horse, why would they perform so well for her? All Anky haters need to learn; her methods aren't harmful, it is scientifically proven.

  • For all the 'Anky haters' out there, it's time for you to get a little up to date - She and her husband recently put a team of scientists to test their training techniques and they have been deemed non-harmful to the horse. Google it :)

  • this woman suck!!! I hope someday a horse kill her!!! xP and then i love that horse^^

  • Anything used improperly has the potential to harm a horse. The double bit system used in upper level dressage can have disastrous effects when in the wrong hands. It is clear that this horse not only is engaged and talented, but that he enjoys the movements and he enjoys his rider. A horse would not perform with the charisma that he displays without an appreciation for his rider. It is silly to condemn a rider when the physical signs so drastically point against her harming him.

  • For correct hoof mechanism horses should land heel first. This horse lands toe first. "Performance" horse injuries are rampant because owners/trainers/farriers/vets do not understand this. Hoof pathologies are in abundance, knowledge is not. What a waste of such fabulous horses.

  • @WTP7 Actually, for correct hoof mechanism horses hooves should land flat, not heel first, toe first, one side first, etc. Completely flat.

  • @Oleuea Thanks for your thoughts. I'm wondering where you you did your research on "flat landing" please would you let me know, I'd love to read up on it. Thanks.

  • such a bad rider with such a good horse...

  • @1994SummerBreeze, if she was a bad rider, why did she won 3 golden medails at the olympic games?

    (sorry for my bad english!)

  • This is an exquisite performance. For anyone taking issue with Anky's training, you must first ride AND train a few horses to Grand Prix, and perform with a horse in front of a large crowd. This horse is not in pain, fearful or showing signs of discomfort. Suggest that all measure trainers by how long their horses stay sound and competitive, barring accidental injuries. Bonfire had quite a long and successful career.

  • wow

  • horseridingbabe588

im not asking if u give a shit!! get that through ur skull!! i have nothing personal with you or anky..i just think shes a crazy person who has no idea how to really connect with her horse!! thats all...SO STOP...u didnt have to reply to what i said in the first place..this isnt even about u.. so stop calling me a loser when u dont even know me

  • @horseridingbabe588

WHY THE FUCK DO U CARE WHAT I THINK!! omg ur an idiot!! god....seriously why do you care? why do u care that i dont agree with her training? is it effecting you in anyway?

  • hahahahahahaha you're so stupid. you really think i give a shit? you get so angry at nothing..big deal loser. i only care that you apprecaite everyones opinion and that you give her some credit for what she believes in.

  • This is beautiful..

  • I Hate this Woman !!!

Rollkur... she is crazy... poor Horse :(

  • what the hell did she do wrong!!??

  • @horseridingbabe588

yeah maybe im not olympic material but at least i dont force my horse to do anything and BTW im training 3rd level with my QH WITHOUT force so shove it up ur ass... sorry ur not good enough and have to force ur horse to get him collected...to bad for u

  • haha good for you.... like i care what you and your horse are training to do.. did i even ask?? No. besides i wasnt saying what she was doing was right i was just pointing out its basically not your problem or business. SUCK IT

  • so i rid horse to but i never see something like that:O

    Anky is Nethelands I'm to!!

    But it's rally cool!!

  • Comment removed

  • oh shut up just because your not as good as she is. loser

  • 0:55-1:10 ;; 2:15-2:25 ;; 2:40-2:55 ;; 2:20-2:23 ;; 5:05-5:25 ;; 5:27-5:33

and for everyone dissing on anky. post a vid of yall doin what she is. look at the horse, yes her technique is not the best. but her horse obviously responds postivily.

example:: look around 2:30, his ears look relaxed.

    :) just my opinion

    -thank you- Starr ♥

  • Her horse is being FORCED into that frame. It's forcing it's neck into that position, doing damage to his neck and spin. Go watch a video on what Rolkur does to a horse's body and tell me that it's fine

  • did i SAY i thought it was a great practice?

no i didnt. i never said that. all i said was that by watching the vid, the horse looks comfortable, and pretty relaxed.

also, its not like anky is the only one who uses this practice, many jumpers do, and many western riders do too.

    so yeaaa...

  • That horse is not relaxed

  • @StormValleyStables YOU GO! Come on. Is that all you can say? Please.

  • Look at his tail - very relaxed considering routine!

  • Comment removed

  • @StormValleyStables i dont think they are supposed to be relaxed doing that haha

  • Many western riders use Rollkur? Is that what your saying?

  • from what i have read, and some of the research i have done, yes thats what im saying.

thats just what i have read in some reports.

but i mean, jumpers, dressage, western. we all have our vices, and things other ppl are gonna hate. even within the sport.

    ya know?

  • Are you meaning, western pleasure, or what? Ive covered, alot of western riding, & not once have I seen any horse under rollkur, Im not sayin that it never happens, but yeah. I still have alot of respect for english riders, for making their horses move like that, when theyre out in the ring.. But to me, this horse looks comfortable.

  • like i said i just saw it in a few articles. im not sure what exactly in western. but i know that there are some methods used other than rollkur that are used in western riding, that can possibly hurt the horse too.

and thanks for the respect, it does suck tho, to have ppl who do hurt the horse within the sport just bc it gives other riders a bad rep.

iv never used rollkur or seen anyone use it in person in what i do. even if it does go on.

and i agree i think this horse looks comfortable..

  • Who knows what the music is called? I might need it for a musical freestyle too, but I wont be copying hers, I just like this type of music.

  • The music is "La Cumparsita", the famous tango tune. =) Hope that helps!

  • Thanks =D

  • @PsychoPonies also parts from bizets operea "carmen" and from a piece called "morgenstimmung", but i don't know who wrote this

  • its generic and nasty..theres no elegence or harmony...theres nothing special about it

  • i'd like to see you try

  • so so so so true

  • That poor creature! If that horse could choose between AvG and a lion on its back - it surely would take the lion because his riding technique is more sensitive!

  • rollkur at it´s best -.-

  • I just won a first place ribbon at a dressage show:)

  • Krack C...

    My ideal.

    sie is ne scheiß tierquälerin!!!!

  • Such a terrible case of Rollkur! :@ I get so angry!

  • The horses neck may just be more flexable. My horse Apollo has never been trained for dressage or any other horse sport and his head goes beyond the vertical. He runs around the padock with his neck beyond the verticle and he's never had rollkur training or whatever.

  • i wondered if anybody would ever come to this conclusion! THANK YOU! i rode two mares, dezija and cariga and both of them had the problem your horse has. and it makes me angry if people wirte something about hyperflexion in my videos. and then looking at theire pages you can see them ride and instead of learning it, they were judging about others. i don´t see hyperflexion in this video! people should stop talking everything bad of anky.

  • I don't doubt people do use Rollkur to hyperflex a horses neck, but I would think that Their mouths would be foaming bad and accually show they don't like it. And it doesn't appear that this horse is uncomfortable. He accually looks pretty comfortable. Different horses hold their heads differently. My friends mare Athena keeps her head strait but her head vertical. My friends mom's horse Dude keeps his head up but his neck up, and my friends sister's mare Artemis keeps her head and neck strait.

  • I agree with you, but foam is actually good. It means they are accepting the bit and relaxed to it which is a good thing. However I really don't see hyperflexion going on in this video and like you said, he doesn't look uncomfortable.

  • the foaming is because their heads are low and their mouths are relaxed so they are salvating.

  • @gracedunlap108 the horse's foam is a sign that his bit fits nicely and that it's comfortable in his mouth :)

  • @gracedunlap108 when a horse foams at the mouth its a good sign, it means they're relaxed with the bit in some dressage events you actually earn points for that

  • @gracedunlap108 Foaming at the mouth doesn't always mean they don't like it. It usually means their working correctly. but rollkur create excessive foaming. too much of it

  • @gracedunlap108 He looks comfortable becaue he's NOT in rolkur. You cant use rolkur in an actual test because in a test the horses head should be vertical. In rolkur the head is BEHIND the vertical so it can only be used for schooling not actual tests. To my eye this horse looks heavy, stiff and lacking in enrgy/sparkle.

  • Totally agree with you. This horse to me doesn't look that over flexed and actually quite comfortable. It's interesting that soooo many people diss her, when infact she is a great rider and so talented! I know a few horses that naturally bring their heads in very far and do it all the time, I also have horses who stick their noses in the air. They are all so different, and should no one should critize anyone unless they really know and understand the rider and horses themselves.

  • i agree with you, but look at her bottom rein! its almost parallel to the ground! that rein is barely supposed to be touched! they r supposed to be riding almost completely on their snaffle rein and then only use the bottom rein if they get strong and its a give and take deal with it!

  • I see what your talking about, but possibly it's just a way she is with this horse. I won't try to assume anything, but the big guy is a nice frame without looking uncomfortable, so who knows :/

  • no i don`t like this style it`s cruel whatever you say

  • what style is that?

    Rullker?

cus that is cruel, not dressage.

  • It's not cruel! it's a training method. Not every horse needs to be asked the same way for the horse to respond everybody has there different ways! I am not a big fan of Anky but give the girl a break!

  • maybe you should do some research about it, then you view on it might change.

you will see how rollkur really affects the horse. I beleive Dressage can and should be achieved in a natural way. Not like that.

  • Ok, yeah i have done some reviewing on it and It does sorta affect the horse, All Anky does is Use it as a training method she doesnt actually ride that way.

  • What song is this? =)

  • Here's what I'll say about Anky: I used to love her. I thought she was amazing. I thought she was one of the best riders in the world.

And then I learned what rollkur was. I suggest EVERYONE on here fighting about dressage and Anky look up that term.

And realize two things: 1) Not all dressage riders use rollkur, and 2) Anky DOES use rollkur.

I am no longer impressed by Anky.

  • @Hilaryeffinsucks I agree!!!

  • @Hilaryeffinsucks some trained dressage horses instantly go to rollkur, it does NOT hurt horses, they toughen they're neck muscles, and it's good for their health ;)

  • @Hilaryeffinsucks same here. when i heard she won a gold medal or some sort of championship, i thought she was the greatest rider ever. then i also learned about rollkur and saw how she super-hyperextended her horses' necks. she flew off my favorite people list.

  • you want to say that horse is not relaxed? watch the tail, it sways and wags as he moves, his movements flow beautifully, and to top everything off, hes not even at his home, but in a competition and this relaxed. Oh my, how he is such a fearful horse. =P (sarcasm if you cant figure it out)

  • I love her riding- so fluid, even so, you can't tell that she's signaling the horse. I ride and compete in dressage- this us better than any other rider I've seen! My dressage teacher is the President of the TN Dressage Corporation, so she loves Anky.

  • I ride horses and have heard of this. But dressage horses are usually trained in a demanding way though. But still how can you upstage this fact:

Just because the method exists, it does't mean every great rider uses it. Right?

Message me if you disagree or want to talk it over.

  • so you're saying that anky doesn't ride correctly, but do you live with her? do you watch her ride every day? do you train with her? no. so you can't possibly say that her riding is bad until you actually do watch her ride each horse EVERY SINGLE DAY.

  • very nice ride. Anky van Grunsven is a good dressage rider and she trains her horse very good.

    greeztt from Alicia NL !!

  • Ah, I've never seen her riding before. Shes a good rider, dont find the horse as good though. Music goes along good with the performance lol.

  • Okay, people are saying they hate her.

First- Why would you go to her vids if you don't like her? Just to trash her?

Second- You can't get a horse to do anything except fear people when you beat or abuse them, so how could she get her horses to do those things?

    -calypsoluv132

  • Actually, you can breed hoses to have such a genetic that they'll put up with all but the most cruel. Most of these great horses work fairly well even through abuse. the only thing you'll notice is that they lack joy and expression in their work and in Anky's horses's case, because their backs are not relaxed as they should, the hind legs don't come near as far underneath as they could! cos these dressage bred horses can sure reach under! just see them play on the loose!

  • ...there are horses that do not fight or show fear but just give in after while.

i also read about really cruel methods of sedating horses with withdrawal of water.

i am sorry i do not remember the exact source, it may have been st.georgs magazine (german).

and humans are able to be cruel in order to win or be famous or whatever...

  • anky is my favorite dressage rider !!!!!!!!!!! <33

  • also

  • ok tiescharh ......... anky is a great rider. just because she knows how to ride , very well dosnt make her a cruel person. her horses love what they do , and you never see her beating her horse with the whip or crushing her leg against her horses side with spurs on. im not saying your worng , but before you post things like that you know will piss everyone else off , you should probably get your facts right.

  • i hate this person! of course shes a good rider but her methods to train the horses are so cruel.

some of you have to think about theese things before you say shes your idol! think of the horses!!!!

  • tiescharh: and what exactly are her methods of training??

  • oh so I'm guessing you train with her and you can see how "cruel" she is because you see her ride every day.

YOU need to think about the things you say before you critisize someone you don't even KNOW!

plus, if she was "beating" her horses, she wouldn't have gotten away with it for THIS LONG! someone would have found out and it would be all over the horse magazines. so unless you have actually witnessed her "beating" her horses every day, GO AHEAD! tell me what I'm saying is wrong!

  • It isn't beating. It is overflexing the back and the neck so it can perform with unnaturally flexed muscles. It is animal cruelty, and it it wrong. They are considering banning the use of roll-kur, but doing so would disqualify half the professional riders. Look it up.

Apart from the animal cruelty, the horse looks beautiful and at ease when performing. Perfect dressage!

  • I luv you Anky! You're my horse and me's idol! :P

  • She's the one who got me interested in Dressage lol. -high fives- My idol too.

  • @denoforpurple

Are u crazy?shi is really cruelty to her horse!!

  • There are just no words that can describe such beauty!!!

  • she's amazing..:D

  • Okay WTF IMOJessBoomer, you probably dont even know how to ride so you shouldnt be talking!

oviously you dont what it would take to ride that well, so lay off!

  • @denoforpurple:

dude i agree, what an asshat IMOJessBoomer is. This is an Olympic rider in both Dressage and in 2012 Reining (apparently).

  • may i please use this for a dressgage video im making?

  • Go ahead! A credit would be nice, though. =)

  • yes of cousre i will sub you! i always intended to but forgot to inclde that in my note :) thankyouu!! the video wont b downloaded and stuff yet,,im gunna wait unbtil i have a few people say i can use vid and then yepps ill make it! thanks again!!

  • pfft, ride badly? ...ha. shes a fantastic rider. Id truely love to see you ride this horse.

  • Wow.. !! I love the way the horse moves! It's just awesome. I LOVE Anky!

  • arghhh she is my hero.

pffft and im only just starting elementary !!

  • Not every training method works for every horse. I've learned that in my years of riding and training horses. What works for one might not work for another. If it works for this horse, good if not, I'm sure she's flexible enough to choose another method. Anky knows her stuff - after all, her record speaks for itself.

  • i second this notion.

  • agreed. i mean, some horses respond to different training methods, rather than others :) and just by watching this vid, the horse looks quite relaxed and not uncomfortable.

  • how do you make your horse presnce im trying to get my morgan mare to prance but i dont know how to some time she dus it on her owne

  • WOW look at that extended trot!

  • Exactly what I thought! WOW! :-)

  • WOW cool

  • I agree about the merits-part.. Even she´s had her share of big medals, that doesnt mean everything she says or does should not be judged. Exampl: once I discussed with a woman about the dressage-level of fjords, and she said a friend of hers, who races, owns a breeding-and a regular ridingstable,
