My uncle used a SCYTHE exactly like this one in Northern Spain to cut the feed for his three Holstein cows.....Then he would dry it in stacks of course....
SCYTHE in Spanish is GUADAÑA.......Memories of the year 1962 !
swish.. swish.. swish.. mesmerizing i must say, very nice video, my dad has an old snath and scythe blade, i asked how to put it together, an use it, he said i'd have to figure out how to use it, and so i did : )
Actually, since dried grass is physically harder, it takes more of a toll on the blade's edge. Living grass is soft and moist and is easily cut with minimal damage to the blade. Living grass is also more easily caught by the blade's edge.
I use a Scythe for cutting overgrown grass in ditches. It keeps me in shape and saves gas also there is just something about using it that just relaxes you. Well it relaxes me anyway.
Even though its a workout, it looks so very relaxing being at one with nature like that.

I used to do this for a living for many years. We would mow all the trails at our local ski hill in my area. I miss it.
Nice scything by the way.

Nice mowing.
I'm new to the scythe. Am I right to assume that the blade would need sharpening more frequently while mowing dry grass as opposed to green?

I think you have the the wrong way around, green grass would be tougher as it is still alive, where dead/dry grass is dry and snaps easier.

Cool. Nice smooth action and work. Where did you get your snath and scythe blade?

That's better than mine. Two very similar yet entirely different videos. Really. Take a look at mine, I just posted it. Compare and contrast.
