I'm glad these episodes are out here since no episodes with Janice, Holly and Diane were on the dvd set although Janice was in the two early hour long ones. I like all three together as they are the models I grew up watching.
Those Britannica Books Of The Western World (and many encyclopedia sets over 10 years old) have experienced high depreciation. On eBay, a set can often be found for as little as $100. The stereo set is now considered vintage; this was very old school by 1984 standards. Of course yellow appliances are dated and not yet retro cool, leaving just the recliner as the timeless look.
I dont get something - Johnny O says the price of the gold is determined at the close of business ON THE DAY OF TAPING. How do they know what the price is at the CLOSE of business of that day, unless maybe they're taping in the evening??
@oldtimeteevee Well, remember that they're taped in LA, and the stock exchange is in NY. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the stock exchange closes at 4pm ET, and the show tapes shows in the early afternoon. Thus they can get the price of the gold bar by 1pm PT the earliest, and so it is definitely feasible (though tedious, especially without the internet in 1984) to conjure up a price for the gold.
This aired the day before my 13th birthday. I was home sick that day, and saw this originally. At 1:27, Bob must've thought, "Well, two can play at this game!"
@viddykiddy18 Yeah, that was one of the original Barker's Beauties' best qualities: fashions that were stylish enough without being too dowdy or revealing.
@tgt85dc True, but here, they went to the main theme immediately upon closing the opening sequence with "You are the first four contestants on The Price is Right"
@zymaymyn No one. Bob still had 4 models, Dian Parkinson left the show Chantel Dubay took her place. It's was Janice, Kathleen, Holly and Chantel. Holly stayed their until that incident with her weight problem for a short while. So the models remained back to 3. So no one was temporily replaced.
This video was in 1984, not 1994. I'm talking about the model on 7:10 to about 7:21. I know that that's not Holly and I know that Holly wasn't modeling this particular show. Janice and Dian are still on the show at the time.
and the range game cue??

It's almost traumatizing to see Bob not too old and with only slightly grey hair.

I actually liked the outfits the Beauties wore on this show,
definitely 80s fashion.

It was one of the shows taped while Holly was gone trying to pursue an acting career.

That episode of TPIR airdate 9/10/84, is the one that Jeopardy! premiered its first episode in syndication when Alex Trebek hosted.

Notice how old everyone in that audience is. If you watch the more recent Barker shows and the Drew shows the audience is mostly young people.

This isn't the longest opening. The longest opening is in the Nicole Thorensen episode in June of 1998.

@tpirman1982 True, because they ran out of time on the opening cue ("Walking") and had to go into the Main Theme early!
