Actually, it's called I Bloom Blaum because they played it at a gig in Norway when it was still untitled and all the fans were chanting 'I bloom blaum', 'I bloom blaum'. Chris then decided to name the song after this chanting. It wasn't until later that he actually found out the fans were chanting what meant "In Blue Room" which refers to the Blue Room EP. He talks about it in an interview.

I can Tim, yes. The day after Coldplay played a gig in Iceland; there was a review in a local paper. Chris thought it said I Bloom Blaum and asked a friend what it meant. He said it meant 'the blue people' but in fact the paper hadn't said I Bloom Blaum at all that's just what Chris remembered it as. So I Bloom Blaum doesn't mean anything! FYI: Simon Pegg told Chris to call the song that.

Chris:We went to Iceland to hold a concert.A review of that concert would have been published by a magazine.We didn't know if it was nice or bad,it was totally Icelander written!There was a caption, below a photo picturing people under blue light, that said:The Blue People.I was thinking on how it could be translated in Icelander and I Bloom Blaum came up to my mind.this translation was absolutely not right. So, when the song was born, we named it like this.The title is nonsense.
