This is a clip from "Our Neighbor, Miss Yae" by pioneer Japanese Shomin-geki genre director Yasujiro Shimazu, released in 1934 (not 1933). A lovely, long clip of this charming film: I was not bothered by the lack of subtitles. I want to see it all some day. As Kurosawa said, this is the kind of movie that was made in the days when movies were "tasty."
Was "A Language All My Own" a response to the shout out to the Fabulous Fleischer Brothers in this movie?

ラストで八重ちゃんを残して隣の一家は朝鮮に赴任して行くんだけど当時は日本領だったんだよな（笑）

新海恵太郎（大日方伝）は旧制東京帝国大学法学部生の設定。角帽に詰襟の着こなしが格好良い！大人の雰囲気を醸し出しています。それもあってか美人姉妹にモテモテです。彼の着ている詰襟学生服には法学部の学部章であるＪバッジが付いています。

昭和初期でよくもまあここまで表現できることが、いかに今と変わら大衆自由文化、大正モダニズムのいい物が花開いている。 水谷八重子さんだよね・・・・このとしでこれだけの色香が出せる事が奇跡だわ。

6:50のシーンで大日方伝と岡田嘉子が多摩川沿いを歩いていますが、対岸に見える大きな建物や煙突は味の素川崎工場でしょうか？
