i miss the BOX so much i use to call so many times to hear my favorite music but got in serious trouble for calling but i didnt know you had to pay when you punch in the number to hear ur favorite music
I remember watching this channel and people kept ordering 3T michael jacksons nephews video back to back I was like 6 or 7 and got so annoyed and TLC Diggin on you ugh lol I miss this channel but if they brought it back no one would watch because they have youtube now smh
you should transfer all your box recordings to dvd and sell them on ioffer.com... you'd make good money and give the fans what they want... its a win win situation
I remember back in the 80's when it was called the JUKEBOX. The JUKEBOX/BOX was available in every city in America. There could never be another station like it because the kids today could care less about a music video.
wow. the box was still out during Mary J. Blige's heyday? wow...they completely got rid of it where i lived but boy do i remember this. not having cable and waiting for someone to order a video. lol. i didn't know this came from the UK!
I miss those days watching the BOX growing up in the 90's. Even tho you had to pay to order a video which they use to charge it on you phone bill it was worth it cause they played good videos. The BOX was the best music network in the 90's better than MTV. The BOX use to play all different videos of different genre's including underground music like house and club that MTV never use to touch. Including Urban which they opened more doors for urban music videos when MTV use to discriminate.
Damn i miss the hell out of this channel. Music that you actually WANTED to listen to all day...and did. Music that meant something.
Sadly, i do not wish its return...for if it were to come back, it'll be overrun by Gaga and Bieber fans. Sorry to make this into a bash post, and i know some of you are sick to death of bieb-bashing, but i'm not a fan of his or gaga or anyone as of late as i feel most of the music now is garbage.
@LamontDaGrizzly Yeah I don't see a point in resurrection the channel either as we now have piracy and youtube among the many resources available for us to listen to whatever music we wish to listen to and all for free and at your convenience. And sure Bieber and Gaga have their obsessive haters, but I remember back in the 90s the kids thought the same about Backstreet Boys, NSync, Britney Spears, Christina Auguilera and so on. It's nothing new. Not liking something doesn't make it garbage.
I loooooved watching this for hours when I had no cable. I remember waitning to see the little phone icon to know that someone was playing a video. Believe it or not, I still remember the number for "thuggish ruggish bone" was 757 lmao!
OMG! I've mentioned this damn station to ppl and they look at me like I'm nuts. Rofl, I got into a lot of trouble when I was younger. Called a few times, lol so I could see my music videos :)
OMG!!!! I remember me & my mom my brothers & cousins use to watch this channel. I just didnt like it when someone would constantly order the same video over and over again to the point were you would know the video no# by heart you be like one......four..seven ALL MAN not snoop dogg again lol!!!
I remember watching the box all day long. Then they canceled it on the cable I had. Then I never heard of it again. I don't remember this promo though. Is the box still around? Was it around after 1997 because that's when I stopped seeing it?
This is taking me back. I was a kid whose parents didn't get cable (cuz they weren't about to pay for TV), so I used to watch The Box a lot. Hey, it allowed me to keep up with all the big videos of the time. But, used to hate it when a really popular song would show up there, cuz that would be the only video playing all day long (everybody would only order that video). Other then that, though, loved The Box:)
The Box was acquired by MTV Networks in May, 1999 and The Box's programming was replaced on January 1, 2001 with the signal of the MTV2 cable network. The principle behind "The Box" was later revived when SWRV, a channel created by Music Choice, debuted in 2010.
he Box's original version existed in the United States in the 1980s and 1990s, debuting in Miami in 1985. The channel was initially a product of the Miami Music scene, hosted by local Miami Bass rappers known as Miami Boyz.THE BOX is a shortened term as the channel was originally named 'Video Jukebox Network'.
MAAAN THOSE WHERE THE DAYS WHEN THE BOX WAS ON SO MUCH GREAT MEMORIES.. I WISH TO GO BACK IN THE 90S AND START EVERYTHING ALL OVER AND THE GOOD WAY U KNOW, TAKES ME BACK WATCHING THIS VIDEO.
we need the box back so they can showcase more underground talents along with the popular acts. to much all fake pop shit going on these days. since the 2000's music has been in the crapper. long live the 90's and the legendary jukebox/box music television.
Back in the days when The Box was THE BEST Music Channel we had in the UK IMO, only on Cable I think, a fair number of Video's shown on this channel, FIRST, well before release date and/or before shown on another channel, one example is when we constantly heard Peter Andre, Mysterious Girl, through the summer of 95, released here a year later, and on other music channels a year later. I used to request quite a few songs as well. 0:42-1:41 like that music, don't know who did it! Great stuff!
@lfc231914 We had The Box in Chicago. As far as I know, it was on Analog Channels 13 & 28 for a minute. Then in 2001, MTV2 came along and ruined everything.
@sixpack18 I'm from the UK and all MTV does is to put programmes on all day Crap MTV shows: My Super Sweet 16 Jersey Shore Made 16 and Pregnant I used to be Fat Good Shows: South Park Beavis and Butthead Jackass Pranked
I remember The Box, when I was 11 or 12 one summer I ran up the phone bill requesting music videos when I had the house to myself, my parents were mad pissed when they got the bill lolololololol
616 was "Would I Lie To You" Charles & Eddie... this was requested Ad Nauseum... maybe it was the company! love the 1:47-1:49 ident - could've made a good Jungle track!
This channel at one point actually came close beating MTV in the ratings. One thing I remember about The Box, or the Jukebox as it was called at first, was all the really bizarre weird promos they use to show. But for some reason it sort of fit the station. They should not have sold out to MTV
LOL! I remember this! I remember being too afraid to run up my parent's phone bill, so I'd write down the numbers of the songs I liked and hope that someone else would request it. Haha Memories :)
i miss the box. it was on only during the overnight hours on wfxv fox 33 in utica-rome ny in the early-90s and then on wnys (formerly wsnr) upn 43 in syracuse ny in the mid 90s
i remember this channel back in the days it would the reception was crappy as hell, but it was kinda of cool, in its later days not many people would put requests in.
LMAO! I ran up my Uncles Bill ordering Backstreet boys, No Doubt, Aliyah, Korn, Vengaboys and Chumbawumba "Knocked out" on here! Then i just let the blame fall on my little cousin. Years later the truth was revealed and i got yelled at for it lmao good ol days man. Wish they brought it back!
Oh man....my fave channel ever! Back iin the 90's, Mom never let me use her phone, s I had to use the phone box to phone The Box just to hear Wu Tang's Chessboxing, then I had to leg it home an set the VCR to record it!!! The channel had every video you could think of, Now The Box still exists but it's not a jukebox, that was the whole point of the channel!!!
i remember the ch that would air the box at 11 pm would go off the air and porn would come out for like 30 secs and then turn to that oldschool scribble acid vision :D since i didnt have thehbo chnlz
According to wikipedia it was in the Miami market in the 80's then nationally after 1991, anybody remember that yo momma on crack rock video, the box was the shit...
i know that, i was just stating that The Jukebox Network was changed into "The Box" on the Fall of 1991. I already knew that the channel and the videos came out before 1991. The first that I've seen The Jukebox Network was in the Summer of 1990 when it started to catch in the N,Y.C. on Brooklyn/Queens Cable. The song that were playing while the menu was running was Kraftwerk's "The Telephone Call", but it was an instrumental version. Like I've said I'd prefer The Jukebox Network over The Box.
Actually, it was out before then. It used to be the "Jukebox Channel" starting back around 1989 or 1990. That's where I first saw videos such as Maxi Priest - Close To You, En Vogue - Hold On, Oaktown 357 - Juicy Got 'Em Crazy & Get Loose, Too Short - The Ghetto, Janet Jackson - Come Back To Me, Public Enemy - Can't Trust 'Em, Ghetto Boyz - My Mind Is Playing Tricks On Me, & Johnny Gill - My My My. Those are just a few of the MANY I'd watch. These vids were out long before the Fall of '91.
i loved when i heard those dial-tones that are appeared from after each commercial. those gave me a damn nightmare, but i loved that part of that channel and menus that they had. the ones from late 1991 to late 2000 suck. I'd prefer to the ones that were on when it was called the "Jukebox Network". those were scarier.
I remember being a pre-teen and seeing the n*syncs song 'tearin up my heart" on this channel for the first time. They played that song so much but i loved it each time, b/c like someone said, it was the only music channel we got without cable. It was on a loop pretty mch, but we didn't care! :)
Man I can't belive someone put clips of the box on here. Music television you control, man that shit was busted lol. This takes me back to the days of SNES, sega genesis, grunge and gangsta rap. Where I lived MTV 2 took over the channel where the box used to be. This brings back memories.
Wait a minute, the UK channel looked like (or pretty much was) the US one? I thought it was entirely different aside from the name, since it apparently still runs out there, while in the US it' disappeared years ago. *scratches head*
Either way, it's been FOREVER since I last saw this channel. I've long grown out of the style of music which predominated the line-ups, but it's fun flashing back. Thanks.
man i remember this as a kid. I also remember it never came in clear and how it was like hour or so before you saw a video. I got in trouble for calling when my mom got the phone bill. Grounded for a whole month!
@poodaranks1 ohh yeah,i aunt kicked my ass when i was 4 yrs old ordering music videos backi in '95...damn,i missed those days and I CAN'T BELIVE MTV BROUGHT THE BOX AND TURNED IT INTO MTV2!!!!!! SHITTY ASS MTV2 OF ALL GOD DAMN NETWORKS!!! FUCK MTV2 BRING BACK THE BOX MUSIC NETWORK
DAMN NIGGA!!!!!! fOR REAL i remember being like 13 years old in 94 and watching SOUTH CENTRAL CARTEL, R. Kelly, Easy E, Snoop dogg, immmature, H-town (do ya remember Them dropping their pants and singing "Part time Lover'. Nigga, straight up memories
Does anyone remember or have seen on Youtube an old commercial for THe BOX involving a teenager playing basketball? It's very urban and takes place in a outside basketball court. (I know the kid in it) I can't find it anywhere!
oh man i miss that channel!!! good good memories of when i was a kid xD There is were I saw "Hit me baby one more time" for the first time!!!! and a bunch of spice girls songs too....man what I would give to watch it again :D
Who remembers 2 live crew - You go girl, Let loose - Crazy, Technohead - I want to be a hippy, Coolio - Gangstas Paradise, Dont want know short short man (cant remember the artist) those runes used to get OVER PLAYED loved it tho
oh my god fair play for the upload i loved the tune "just a minute now i dont think so" on the video selection. Takes me back i was seven when this first featured im now 26!
I so remember this...in the US. Man...I actually have a whole VHS tape full of videos that I would tape from that channel. I still have it somewhere! The most popular videos were were Luke-I wanna rock, 2 live crew-pop that coochie, tka-louder than love, the dogs-doggamix, the dogs-work it out, baby, lil' suzy-take me in your arms...honestly, i could go on and on, but those were usually the most popular.
MAN why did they take the Box off air ? that was the end of music , real talk they need the Box back again , you could hear what you wanted to hear , from underground to mainstream .. miss those days
Ahhh good ol' 90's tv, i remember when it was going off the air in NYC, and they allowed you to request video's free of charge, me and my boy ordered "ODB's, OOH baby i like it raw" about 30 times in a row
I remember when the box was called the Jukebox and it use to show those really creppy promos in the beginnng. It had an almost underground alternative theme. The promos became more hip once the channel became popular.
this channel is the same age as me-, the oldest music tv channel on british cable! it was put on cable in 1992 though its funny how MTV was able to be veiwed by the ameicans in the 1980s, but we didnt get it till 1997.
MTV Europe started in 1987 and britain got it then!! MTVONE however started in 1997..the box is not the oldest music channel n british cable and sky at all!
First music channels on satellite and cable Sky Channel and Super Channel on Eutelsat ECS-FI and Music Box and MTV Europe via Eutelsat VAFII;both sats could be received with motorised satellite equipment and a large dish.
The Box in the UK started out as a cable exclusive channel broadcast via satellite to cableheadend and transmitted to subscribers before it came to satellite.
@AnthonyUK That's interesting. In the US, it was more a computer terminal, an LD player and a low-power transmitter that numbered in the hundreds dotting the US depending on location.
You REALLY have to be a 90's kid to remember The Box. We used break a sweat trying to adjust antenna for this ghetto channel before cable. They only played hiphop in our region
Yep i remember "The Box" was "The JukeBox" in the late 80's 89'...in chicago it use to come on channel 4 and channel 13...i got so mad when the box went of air, damn do i miss the 80's and 90's the best years...this new bullshit sucks,i don't like the 2000's lol...
yeah i loved the box! at my house it was always kept on that channel. i first remember it as the Jukebox Network in 1990. Then 2-3 years later in Chicago it became The Box. I liked it when it was the Jukebox. Lots of early teen memories. Only time i could see vids of Cube, Redman, PE, NWA, and others in the daytime everyday! Much love to the Jukebox/Box, you guys gave me great times in my teens during the early 90's. Thanks for everything!
I used to get into so much trouble from calling it too much and running up the phone bill. And there weren't alot of rock videos to choose from...pretty much always rap or techno...I used to get pissed off about it-LOL
does anyone remember when the box only used to come on at 9pm and it always started with topless girls wearing boxing gloves, singing 'we cheer you up, we cheer you up, we cheer you up when your feeling down' ? whta the hell was that all about? think it was around '91/92?
Those bleepy noises between the commercial and the menus, I love that stuff, man. Those were very, very scary, but that is why love those parts about the channel Please post more of those, please! I miss the original Box. I also miss the ones from when it was the Jukebox Network. The menus were just as scary as those bleeps.

Back iin the 90's, Mom never let me use her phone, s I had to use the phone box to phone The Box just to hear Wu Tang's Chessboxing, then I had to leg it home an set the VCR to record it!!! The channel had every video you could think of, Now The Box still exists but it's not a jukebox, that was the whole point of the channel!!!

don't think we'll ever know what that tune is between 0:41 and 1:41, sounds like a bumpin' tune to me!

i know that, i was just stating that The Jukebox Network was changed into "The Box" on the Fall of 1991.

The American division of The Box first appeared in the fall of 1991. The U.K. version later appeared in the spring of 1992.
botter1 2 years ago

I was just schooled. Apparently "Video Juke Box" had been around since the mid-80's! Damn! I guess I just discovered it (here in the STL) in 1989.
SpankRamen2 2 years ago
i loved when i heard those dial-tones that are appeared from after each commercial. those gave me a damn nightmare, but i loved that part of that channel and menus that they had. the ones from late 1991 to late 2000 suck. I'd prefer to the ones that were on when it was called the "Jukebox Network". those were scarier.
botter1 2 years ago
I remember being a pre-teen and seeing the n*syncs song 'tearin up my heart" on this channel for the first time. They played that song so much but i loved it each time, b/c like someone said, it was the only music channel we got without cable. It was on a loop pretty mch, but we didn't care! :)

The Box lived on Satcom F4-11 for many many years over C-Band satellite in North America. It was a real disappointment when it went off the air.

Man I can't belive someone put clips of the box on here. Music television you control, man that shit was busted lol. This takes me back to the days of SNES, sega genesis, grunge and gangsta rap. Where I lived MTV 2 took over the channel where the box used to be. This brings back memories.
seanj666 2 years ago
@seanj666 I do have a SNES, Sega Mega Drive (Genesis in the US) both of those consoles you mentioned!
Chao772TheThird 10 months ago
Wait a minute, the UK channel looked like (or pretty much was) the US one? I thought it was entirely different aside from the name, since it apparently still runs out there, while in the US it' disappeared years ago. *scratches head*
Either way, it's been FOREVER since I last saw this channel. I've long grown out of the style of music which predominated the line-ups, but it's fun flashing back. Thanks.

Ahhh good ol' 90's tv, i remember when it was going off the air in NYC, and they allowed you to request video's free of charge, me and my boy ordered "ODB's, OOH baby i like it raw" about 30 times in a row
MrExodus 2 years ago
I remember when the box was called the Jukebox and it use to show those really creppy promos in the beginnng. It had an almost underground alternative theme. The promos became more hip once the channel became popular.

this channel is the same age as me-, the oldest music tv channel on british cable! it was put on cable in 1992 though its funny how MTV was able to be veiwed by the ameicans in the 1980s, but we didnt get it till 1997.
welshbird1998 3 years ago
MTV Europe started in 1987 and britain got it then!! MTVONE however started in 1997..the box is not the oldest music channel n british cable and sky at all!
MTV Europe since 87
Sky 1 had Sky Trax music chanel after middnight
Music Box since 85
so there you go lol

First music channels on satellite and cable Sky Channel and Super Channel on Eutelsat ECS-FI and Music Box and MTV Europe via Eutelsat VAFII;both sats could be received with motorised satellite equipment and a large dish.

The Box in the UK started out as a cable exclusive channel broadcast via satellite to cableheadend and transmitted to subscribers before it came to satellite.
AnthonyUK 3 years ago
@AnthonyUK That's interesting. In the US, it was more a computer terminal, an LD player and a low-power transmitter that numbered in the hundreds dotting the US depending on location.

yeah i loved the box! at my house it was always kept on that channel. i first remember it as the Jukebox Network in 1990.
