Debrucey, you probably have friends that simply wipe the floor. I'll give you that. Maybe. She is awesome both to listen and to look at. Deal with it. Let people do what they do best. She'll play Rachmaninoff and you go back to wiping floors (with your friends!)
Makes me both happy and sad to read that info, happy because you get your debut at Carnegie Hall, congratulations I knew you would make it you are very special and will go far with your music. The sad part is because I can't be there, no money and not even in the same country but it's the first time I really felt sad for missing out on something. I hope you have a wonderful time, I know how much you practiced for everything through life so you deserve the time you have now in the spotlight.
@sk7ca I'm trying to imagine what Lola would do to you if you said that right to her face. Would she smile and say Thank You!, or slap you right across the jaw. I think the latter is most likely.
Wikipedia -Astanova started touring as a concert pianist at the age of eight. She performed in Germany, France...and Russia both solo programs and with orchestras. In 1996, she was Laureate of the International Chopin Competition for Young Pianists in Moscow. In 1998, ...in the UNESCO documentary "Prodigies of the 20th Century". In 2003, she emigrated to the United States.... In 2005, she received her Master's Degree (summa cum laude) from Rice University.
It was not long ago that I've discovered your beautiful music. Prior to that, I only had one love - Martha Argerich. For years she was my queen, her sound, her approach, her pianism spoke to me like no other. Now that I've heard some of your music I feel as if I've found something that is very powerful and real. Your playing is absolutely brilliant. I will follow your music and your career the same way I did Martha's. You really surprised me. Yours truly, Dan.
Thank you, Sergei Rachmaninoff! Through your music, you have touched the hearts of millions of people, and given us a treasure of incalculable worth.
Thank you, Lola! Through your performances here on YouTube, you have brought this wonderful music to life for thousands of people who would otherwise never have heard it. When I listen to you play, I feel like my soul is in your hands, and that it is very safe there.
Your performance reminded me a LOT of LIszt's Evening Harmony. I wonder if Rach was inspired by that. I also wonder if this was played during the evening...it's hard to tell in that Steinway Fortress of Solitude. ;)

Except for a bunch of horny guys who are not really listening to the music, this performance is marginal at best. The performance is played almost as if it is a Chopin Nocturne, but lacks any of the drama or buiding one should expect in a passionate work by Rachmaninoff.
some people here have commented on your physical mannerisms. some may like them, some not so much. i personally fall into the second group. but focusing on that aspect is really missing the point of this video. your phrasing, your tone color, your overall sound are simply amazing here. this is truly a genius performance!
@debrucey Different people get into it different ways. I look like a retard with Tourrett's Syndrome when I get into something I'm playing on the drums, and I can't help but rock back and forth when I'm playing the guitar.... So maybe this is just how she gets into it.
@jeremywilson15147 Maybe, looks very tense though. I hope she doesn't injure herself, you have to think about these things when you practice as much as she does.
@debrucey Exactly: people who know nothing of classical music are impressed by these showy, poser gestures which are obviously calculated for photogenic angle and for showing the mere "image" or pretense of emotion. She has excellent technique, but with her gimmicks (the ridiculous showboat orgasm finales, for example), she will also be a music clown for any serious listeners, until she gives those bad habits up and lets the music, and her otherwise fine artistry, speak for themselves.
@StoneChords I wouldn't say it was an 'excellent' technique. I mean, she knows her way around the piano that much is clear, but I have friends that could wipe the floor with her.

Lola, if I were you, I would go to a music store's piano section and play a song like this just to give the other customers a free concert.
Or play your version of Don't Stop the Music! It's one of the most exciting and beautiful songs I've ever heard!

@debrucey That's called being passionate about the music that you're playing. It takes a lot to play from the soul like she does...

@jeremywilson15147 I know what being passionate is. I've never seen a pianist stick their shoulder so far forwards as that, passionate or not.
