  • I heard that it was written to themselves to remind them that the fame that came with Jesus Freak and the songs that got so much secular attention was not the focus of their music. Man, do I miss them together. Still follow each one individually and still can't wrap my mind around Tait's voice meaning its a Newsboys song on the radio...

  • in an interview i once read they said it's about a pretend scenario in which one of the trio goes solo and hits it big with a secular radio chart topper. it was a way to remind them to never make that mistake and remember to keep the christian message at the core at all times. or some shit like that.

  • @AstridHaven that one word isn't nessacery dude

  • @shermonruler uuuuh.. okay. i really don't think Christians should be scared of the "Curse Word Boogieman" anymore. It's old, out dated, and laughable. To be so ridiculous as to think that God is offended by silly little words from the North American style English is pretty childish and belittles God's intelligence. Thanks dude...

  • totally fantastic sonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnggggggggggggg

  • agree

  • I'm not religious and not a particularly devout Christian, but I have always loved this song and the video is one of my all-time favs. I think the harmonies are great and Kevin Max's vocals are awesome. I think it has a certain 80's quality.

  • I like the aspect of having each of the members of dc Talk on the hospital bed in turn as the video progresses. It shows that this sort of situation could happen with anyone.

  • my favorite song

  • brilliant. great audio too!! thanks!

  • I dedicate this to: KATY PERRY! :D

  • @KimberlySmash1992 hahahahahah soooo truee

  • adoro essa musik *_*

  • damn, thats one of the best pop genre songs ive heard?? why havent i heard this before??

  • what is the video about?!?!?!???!

  • well that was an odd vid but good song o.0

  • This song hit the tv sets of the uk for weeks on end atleast 3 times a day on channel "the box" brilliant track and i think you lot are totally correct in your assumpitions as to whom this is about but i love how it can be related something in every persons life.

  • I heard it was about Jars of Clay and their change.

  • Well said, Good song.

  • lol at 2:58, the radio is playing "Jesus Freak"

  • I think this was the last song by them..when they broke up

  • Boomtown58's analysis of what this song is about. Contact me and I will tell you what it's really about boom! By the way, I got my info from them.

  • anyone else notice the patient has an ET tube but, no one is breathing for him? Its like whats the point. I wonder how they put those in for TV anyway. I mean it cant really be in that would be the most uncomfortable thing ever and probably dangerous too.

  • we know the music from dc talk... we love it... do you know where they sleep or where they pay their bills... hhhhmmmm?!? do you? stop it! but with a smile... j/k but honestly, the music may be nice but getting to know some one is better... dc talk is a great band!

  • Siempre escuche esta musica cuando estaba con mis amigos juntos a pesar que no la entendiamos pero deveras que me encanta Ahora que la escucho me hace recordarme mas de Dios Puesto que sin es una verdadera banda de musica cristiana...

  • come on DC talk!!! get back together!

Yes,soloing they are still great, especially tobymac, but their better by FAR together! :(

  • don't think it's gonna happen cause toby's got such a take off career and michael is the lead singer in the Newsboys now.

  • If anyone would have the video SUPERNATURAL...would know the answer to the question of what it is about.

It is actually about if one of the three members would actually go 'astray' if they band ever broke up.

  • i dont understand the video from 3:00 on... could someone please explain?

  • Not a hundred percent on this but im guessing its a symbol of where glamour and the highlife will get you. while he may have been popular before he died, it meant nothing to God and eternity. That would explain the dancers and dancing girls. much of what happened to him was done so through earthly and fleshly desires.

  • Anyway...my absolute favorite band of all time!! Wish they would get back together and go on tour! If it was one city here in the U.S., I would fly there in a heartbeat!!

  • Correct me if I'm wrong: I thought this song was written about Marilyn Manson?? Maybe I'm off the wall here, but...what I've heard.

  • I've always just heard that it was about an imaginary fourth member of the band, and what it would be like if the fourth band member had sold out and starting doing mainstream music, instead of continuing to spread the Christian message. As far as I know, Marilyn Manson never did Christian music, so he wouldn't fall in that category.

  • they would have soooo many people at their concert if they got together for a final tour! They would sell out in every state. I stake my life on it. I know where I am going anyway.

  • @phxsmallfry ehh, Toby is already touring with Skillet and House of Heros, he is probably doing too well to consider going back

  • If only there last thing they did together meant that they were coming back together (last thing they did was called intermission)

  • 3:00-3:15 is the best part

what happend to DC talk are they still together? they were the best

  • nope. they seperated... they are doing things on thier own

  • Toby mac and kevin max are solo and Michael Tait is now with the newsboys (And yes they were the best :D)

  • There was never a fourth member! Just people who played instruments. And they themselves said that it was inspired by the question "what if one of us left." that's why they all take a turn dying in the video.

i miss them. they were my childhood *wistful sigh*

  • @ae2alyssa me too, i can't listen to a dc talk song and not be nostalgic for my childhood, i started listening to the "Jesus Freak" album in third grade and didnt stop until they broke up, good days

  • Great song ...one of the best groups of all time! Wish they'd get back together again. I think this song is supposed to be about M. Manson...heard that a few years ago.

  • Killuminati!

Thank you Lord for opening my eyes!!

    DC Talk 4EVER!

  • lol Jesus Freak 2:55

  • gosh this is a great video, I don't understand why iTunes doesn't sell it :(

  • does anybody know who the fourth member of dc t. was??

  • @MrChristianfan There wasn't a fourth member? I'm pretty sure anyways.

  • One of the few bands I've ever listened to where no song is a bad one!!!

  • One of the greatest bands of aLL TIME

  • @Fgermay naw... THE greatest band of all time ;P

  • I'd never wanna "go" with you! Honestly! We can "hi/...'hit a few beats'... bye", however... I, too, am more conscientious of my faith! kudos! DcTalk!! LOVELIKE'EM!!!

  • Another story is that one of the guys (if not all of them) was friends with Marylin Manson back in the day. So this song is just about how Manson used to be Christian and stuff and now he's not. So this song could just have a double meaning...like this was just the story that inspired it but it could at the same time be about Christian bands that sell out. Just a theoory based on what I've read/heard

  • really? wow thatd be a little cool and weird if marylin manson was in DC-talk

  • people are dumb if they think this song was about MJ death...

  • If you look at this song literally, this song is about a fictional ex- fourth member of DC Talk. This song is most defintately not predicting Micheal Jackson's death, but when you look at it metaphorically, relatively refers to his life and the many lives of secular musicians. It refers to people who decide to live a good life now instead of later in heaven with Jesus. It seems like a good decision now, but will hurt you in the long run.

  • who was the ex fourth member??

  • haha, you wont believe how long its taken me to find this song!

  • me too!!!!!!

  • I've watched this video a few times and one question kept coming to my mind, how did they get so many people to come and help out?

  • why? Do who are they? They don't sound like they suck that bad or anything?

  • this video came out when i was in JUNIOR HIGH!! the song was released in 1998 (dctalk were way ahead of their time musically...i thought they were so heavy back then, but i don't consider this heavy now)

...im sorry, but I don't think they can tell the future of michael jackson's death, it was over 10 years ago. its got a message to maybe some other person who they knew in the industry who died.

...the song always confused me though if they believed in once saved always saved doctrine or not.

  • Me too! i went and saw them in 98 too. my favorite DC Talk album.

  • As far as the last half of your comment goes, you may be correct, I honestly do not know. However this video has nothing to do with Michael Jackson. The "guys with the hollywood glasses" are (and if you look closely all three band members become/are that guy) supposed to be a fourth member of the band who left DC Talk for riches and fame in a secular career. Nothing more, nothing less.

  • Man, that's beautiful! Kevin Max is one of the best singers ever!!!!!! And what an awesome combination DC Talk truly is.

  • I have to agree. I like his voice, and he's also a great poet. Just listen to "Alas My Love" & "There Is a Treason At Sea"

  • And what an awesome combination DC Talk truly WAS :(

  • Have you ever heard the newsboys ? If you have not, then you should ! They're awesome =D

  • That used too be true...not anymore...Switchfoot, Jars of Clay and then the hard rock side of the house they are usually better then many mainstream bands: Demon Hunter, Project 96, Red...to name a few....

  • true, but it's project 86

  • Makes me think of Bono.

  • DC Talk is lyrically the best band in the world!!!!

  • I like this video!

  • I dunn understand the meaning of the video... they say goodbye to a friendo who died, or a friend who leave the God's way?

  • l don't get it either...

  • The song's about a fictitious artist/ band. The message is that there are some out there (even in Christian genre) that will change their approach in the music business and write songs that sell better. Things that are typically labeled as "sin" usually sell better in the music business...sex, drugs, living for oneself...all these things make popular songs..to sing about self denial doesn't always sell records...lol DC Talk just wants to encourage other Christian bands to stay the course

  • @Boomtown58 hmmmm.... Have you heard a lot of tobyMac's new songs from the Tonight cd?

  • @Boomtown58 er, not all popular secular songs are all about sex, drugs, and rock & roll...

  • @Boomtown58 Its actually about Toby Mac ...

  • What about Ananias and Sapphira? They dropped dead after lying to the Holy Spirit. Or what about the death of Herod, who was eaten by worms after giving glory to himself and not to God? Doesn't sound like God has changed. He's God, and He apparently has the right to judge and take someone out, if necessary. I have no problem with that.

  • The Best!

  • ah i love this song! i haven't heard it in at least 7 years lol it's sad they split up.

  • mmmm esta cancion es genial, ademas es muy buen grupo

  • who ever said, that Kevin Max's voice is great. On the contrary. No it's unbelieveable.

  • dude....when i was a kid......I thought toby mac was hot in this vid

  • The ending is like High School musical meets ER. lmao. Interesting idea to have them play the fallen rocker than have someone else. I probably would of picked Mark Stuart to play the dead rocker if not dc Talk and end it where Carman as Jesus takes him to Heaven. lol

  • Kevin Max has an ausome voice

  • as a kid i always hated it but now im just realizing how great it is lol

  • wow...watch this video while listening to "Too Much" by the Spice girls. It syncs up pretty good

    XD

  • Sounds like Pink Floyd Darkside of the Moon at 2:19

  • It does!

  • <3 <3

  • I used to hate this music video. I didn't understand it when I was younger, like 8, and I cried so much because I thought they actually died. Yeah.... so I didn't watch it for about 8 more years after that. Now I'm fine when I watch it, but the song always triggers that memory.

It's a good song, though, and DC Talk was absolutely amazing when they were together!!!

  • classic dc talk... lol at 3:00

  • It has been such a long time since I watched this video. dc talk helped change my life. It's so sad that such an amazing creative force like dc talk was put on the shelf. I no longer have much hope that dc talk will ever get back together. Now that Michael Tait joined the Newsboys, I think we can safely say dc talk is definitely no more. What a shame

  • Hilarious this song is about selling out and yet DC Talk were probably some of the biggest sellouts in christian music. Ever hear the song "I Love Rap Music"? nirvana hits and no more rap for them. They might not have sold out outright on the whole "Christianity" angle of their music, but they sure did musically.

  • Comment removed

  • they did not sell out. the grew up. peoples taste change and this way mike and kevin get to do more of what the like too.

  • fair enough, and to be honest I loved the change when i was 11/12 years old. Jesus Freak was a great album, but now that I'm a bit older it does seem pretty strange that they had such a dramatic change.

  • love it!!!

  • like

  • they are on hiatus.. its different.. it means they MIGHT start the group up agian but they do still help each other out and sing is a few of each others songs which shows us that they are still good friends.

  • the men in suits.. who i am guessing are layers? The dance they are doing looks like a jewish dance that I have seen on tv.. are they steryo-typing or am I just thinking way to much? I love this song either way though, used to listen to it over and over while at visiting the cabin with my best friend before we graduated and she moved to france.

  • I thought that the guy in the hospital was a representation of him giving himself over to sin. When the four men come in, he is dead, completely given over to sin. Then I thought the four guys represented demons celebrating his turning from God. I figure the ladies represents Holly Wood (I'm told that back then there were Holly Wood movies had women dress like that and dance.)

  • hmm I never thought of the video like that I like your way of thinking dude!! :D

  • apparently this song came from them talking as a band about what it would be like if one of their members left the band and sold out. its about a fictitious band/person, not specifically jars of clay.

  • i bet you guys dont know who this is about?

  • It's about Jesus.

    I like the song :)

  • its about jars of clay

  • how on earth is this about jars of clay????

  • they used christian music to get heard of and left it and went to be regular music and soo this is about them but i think there back in christian music

  • This music is so powerful. To think that I still have this music on cassette ^^

  • dc talk!!!! great music :D

  • JESUS IS THE WAY!!!!!! XD

    The best group ever!!!!

  • yes this is the dc talk song i've been searching for!!! i knew the chorus part goes but i dunno the title of it and so now i've found it im so happy!!!! AWESOME SONG!

  • well my english is not good at all but i can say this this grp was the best *bendicion* for my life* lastima que se separaron but im still LF new cristian rock grps like POD, creed mmm im not totaly sure about that grp and "alter bridge" if someone know plz help me with that and god bls u

  • Kevin did a movie last year. THE Imposter.

    See Trailer here, on YouTube.

    Yeshua Yes We Can !

  • what is the imposter about?

  • I grew up with this music. I am not christian anymore, but I still listen to this band. They are great.

  • JESUS IS THE WAY <3

  • When they broke up Micheal Tait stated, "our musical differences are too great." well, Toby is the greatest christian pop artist, Kevin had the beatiful vibrato voice, and Micheal had a great voice for God, Toby kept the beat, Kevin the soul, and Micheal the faith and harmony, together they were the single greatest Christian band of ALL TIME!

  • This video was the last time that that I heard of dc talk

  • Actually The long blonned one wanted a bigger part and Toby and The African American member didnt agree with that and The African American found theyre own careers so yeah your half right

    GOD BLESS!

  • They didn't break up in the traditional sense. They went solo 'DC Talk Solo.' They each have different callings in music and can reach more souls this way.

God Bless their endeavors for Him

  • jesus freak and supernatural are probably the greatest Christian albums ever created

  • I watch this vid alot and evry time I look it up I always choose urs. I love this song and this music vid.

  • why did they breakup?

  • Dc talk was awesome i cant belive they broke up the good thing is that michal tait joined newsboys

  • yeah dc talk was a great band They were the best band eva!

  • So much talent when they were together.

  • Interestingly... it was also within a few months of their longtime guitarist leaving them to go on tour with Alanis Morrisette

  • well i am old enough to remember when the song came out and it was released about the time when micheal english quit the gospel business and went top 40.

  • good song. ive never heard it till now .

  • I had the biggest crush on Mike back in the day...

  • this song is supposed to be towards marilyn manson. he wrote a song about dc talk and this song is their response

  • I really wish dc talk didn't break up THEY WERE MORE THAN AMAZING!

  • OMGness!!!! I love Tobymac!!!!!!

  • lol @ 3:29 look at the second nurse on the left dance while all the others just stand there.

  • toby mac is gorgeous! dc talk has really inspired me and is a great band. my favorite parts= 1:20 and 1:40 :)

  • yeah he is really cute. His eyes are pretty!

  • too bad he already has a family and kids! haha but yeah his eyes are so blue!

  • Muito Bom!

  • DuDe these guys were the best and still are

  • great song!!

  • i love this song

  • According to the BAND, this is a song based no a FICTIONAL band member. I have all of dc Talk's records, and it's always been just the 3 guys.

You guys really need to check your facts before posting.

  • love this video

  • In the Supernatural special feature video mentions this song. Basically the three members had a talk about what would have happened if one of them chose to leave the christian music industry and fall into mainstream. This song basically states that even if one of them will go, the other two will be sad and try they best to stop it, but will not follow him to mainstream.

  • This was the best I could come up with: They're singing to each other. The song is saying goodbye if any of them ever left the christian music industry to be popular in mainstream music.

I'm not sure thats wat it means but I actually got something.

  • well there used to be a fourth member of dc talk back before they became famous. i think this is about him. i dont remember his name but someone i know went to college at liberty university with all the band members and he was in the dorm next door to toby mac's

  • was at Liberty with them; same three from beginning to endl this is about a FICTIONAL fourth member; tongue in cheek

  • oh okay. well thanks for clearing that up.

  • wow. you went to Liberty College with them??

  • well me and like 20,000 other people. Got one better....Mike graduated from my HS and Toby went to one of our semi-rival schools. They both grew up in DC area, Toby VA and Mike MD.

  • I'm going to find out What this song means... It's kinda funny that this is my favorite band and my second favorite song and i still don't know what it means

  • hit it up and let me know lol

  • The fourth member at one point was Limp Biscut... Crazy i know!

  • No way! Crazy stuff, that. Didn't know that. Although I live under a rock in certain areas that all I know of Limp Biscut is what genre he sings.

  • I really don't think it's about toby mac when he leaves And the big reason for that is well i have 2 reason one is HE'S still singing in this song and it wasn't on there last album which would be kinda weird if they talked about that and made another album

  • haha i know, but i knew toby mac before dc talk, and i was like whoah whats with the hate, but i wanna know what this song is about. toby rocks though he did good after.

  • How can we believe u that u knew Toby before dc talk.

  • i thought this song was about toby mac cause he started his own band lol but i honestly dont know

  • God bless you

  • that was surprisingly awesome! i loved the dancing at the end.

  • i love dc talk! they're great!!! '')

  • nothing like christian rock.....

    nice video..

  • One of the greatest music videos ever to one of the greatest bands of all time. Man I miss when these guys still sang together. NO one else has their sound.

  • Ahhhh....the 90's.......
