At least we got to hear the real Bonanza theme for one more season. "The Big Bonanaza" was about as memorable as a fly buzzing.

What I could never understand is the fact that NBC canceled Bonanza in mid-season without ever allowing the producers to write a proper series finale. Why the network did that is beyond me.

@jsrosa1282 That's the way most shows went off the air in those days, with a whimper, even long-running, beloved shows like Bonanza.

@jsrosa1282 Well it was an awful season...has lost all the feel....it was like they had tried to pick it up 15 years later and whatever had been there was gone. Ratings had to have reflected it. That aside, the networks were looking to do away with the these 'old' series and make way for the new...like happened to "Gunsmoke" and "Big Valley". THey had the excuse they needed....anyway, Landon was getting ready for Little House

The only difference with this introduction, is that Tim Matheson and David Canary are on the credit; moreover, this was the final season due to ratings decline and Dan "Hoss" Blocker death.

This is more like part of the 1968-70 variation of the Bonanza theme sped-up w/ a few extra cues in it.
