@hahn4 Niedermeyer was facing the boards AND engaged with another player. He moved to his right a fraction of a second before Briere laid down the hit and well after Briere started his "run."
@hahn4 that doesn't matter. Still a blindside hit on a player whose already engaged and still boarding. People have the misconception that boarding is hitting a guy from behind. That's just not true.
Same hit, same night in Boston resulted in Lucic siting for the rest of the night. For old time hockey fans it might be a clean hit... but todays rules say otherwise.
@saurch91 tsn.ca has an explanation why the hits were different in punishment... not surprisingly the main difference was that lucic is huge and brieres small so the end results were much different
since when is checking the man with the puck a 'dirty' hit? If someone thinks thats 'dirty', they have not been watching the NHL for too long. Todd Bertuzzi's hit, Matt Cooke's hit this year, and Randy Jones (Flyer at the time), were dirty. This is not a dirty hit.
@hahn4 R U serious or just stupid? Hitting a defenceless player from behind into the boards is not HOCKEY! Its Definitely a dirty hit! Someone is going to get killed soon!
That was satisfying to see.

I wouldn't even say it was an illegal hit. Niedermayer was clearly not facing the boards directly....

@Hollywood42 u don't have to hit a guy directly in the back for it to be considered boarding. I dunno how so many people still have the confused.
