  • @glarenegade I think that'll only happen when he gets arthritis in old age.

  • that part with the curving there is 2 rules to a vanishing point rule 1. everything go towards the vanishing poitn rule 2 . if you avoidd the vanishing every line that avoids it need to be parrelel to another line

  • bitch please. i can't even draw that man on the road!

  • i was wondering if you could cover faces and positions in relation to perspective like holding a hand toward the viewer or birds eye view

  • Thank you for all the nice tutorials, they are very helpful. Can you do more of this kind of drawing? Thank you

  • Very useful!

  • I remember doing this in elementary. I was boss in it :D Why did I not continue art? But at least i continued in the arts(music) :P

-I found crilley first, and thus was inspired to draw manga, then googled it, then found manga univertsite:3

don't get me wrong! Both videos are AMAZING!

I learned how to draw more from crilley than my art teacher!

  • this was awsome i drawed it and it was awsome thank you

  • Haha we are doing like a Hollywood background with 3-D shops and buildings and we had to put a vanishing point in and everyone else failed it and I was like..... I learned this 6years ago :P

    Hugs from Brazil.

  • @markcrilley Hi Mark, So I have a question that I would really appreciate getting an answer for... My friend and I have watched your videos, and we are astounded by your talent. My question is if you could come to our school and do a workshop, teaching us kids how to draw some of the fantastical artwork you do. Our school needs a really good self confidence boost, and I think you could really do that for us all. If you are actually taking me seriously, my email is megan41498@hotmail.com

  • @markcrilley could you give a tutorial on how to make tht old, broken look you make it have? that would be amazingfultastic.

  • Perpendicular, maaaan!! :D

  • Anyone else think this guy sounds like an older version of the host of the show "This gun F***ing Sucks!" on Machinima?

  • I like the sound effects! ...and the tutorial of course :D

it 'looks' easy when you do it like that.

  • I'd very much like to buy your books and shake your hand for all these great videos. You wouldn't by chance be showcasing at SDCC this year would ya?

  • Mark, thank you so much, I am a fourth year art student, and was never taught this (a little ashamed to say)! I've been looking for so long a source that could teach me this without getting into to much minutia and jargon. Way to go, great primer for perspective. :)

  • began with just lines connected to a point no big deal, ended with, where the fuck are those lines?

  • YES this is amazingly useful! I've always struggled with backgrounds and perspective. Really helpful advice here :)

  • great video. I'm ok with drawing faces and my own characters but always have been self conscious about back ground. please do more of these!

  • loved your wind effects lol

    great vid

  • those background tutorials are just awesoooooommee mr. crilley!!!

pls keep it up with those videos cause they help me alot and it's really fun to try out your tips =]

    greetings from austria

  • This drawing is fantastic, it feels very light but the actual situation in the drawing is very dark and the contrast of the two is great.

  • ;;u;; not only do you teach us how to draw, but you encourage us its okay if we dont get it right away, and that means alot so some people ^u^

  • thank u someone that would give thr time to show how to make an amazing background

  • woah, my 1 point backgrounds always seem so unlogic (to me) but this encourages me keep trying X'D. 00:53 is just wowness =w=

  • I cannot begin to express how much i enjoy watching these how to draw videos, if you where to teach at a school i would not miss a single lesson!

Even though i love seeing all the how to draw manga things,I would love to see more enviroment/background videos, and i understand that is can get boring sometimes, but (for me anyway) i prefer to have you talk in the video!

  • May you please tell what the measurement(s) of your picture "frame" is? I'm new to these 1 point perspective drawings and i am trying to get close to this one while you draw so i can hone in my skills to better understand how to draw many other things but i always seem to get too big near the edges and too narrow at the vanishing point, im not sure what in doing wrong, i've used a full paper and drew a smaller frame and it seems to work best somewhere between, but im not sure were... ~PHEW~

  • Thank you for your 1 and 2 point perspective vids!!!!! PLEASE DO MORE. Please go more in-depth, too. I would like to see your take on curved structures and some more smaller objects.

  • Thank you so much for this vid... Sometimes I hesitate to add details while I draw the structure, but now I see what I did wrong in my environmental drawings... Your advice has given me some nice insight overall aswell :).

  • No matter how much I watch your videos I fail at re-making or learning about drawing. All I am good at is making pixel art. x_x

  • Mark that accent of yours just makes every little dumb comment sound smart XD

  • I would really love to see something a little more difficult like when you meantioned adding trees or cars etc. Thanks for the video mark!!

  • it was great!!!! but can you show all of us how to draw the begining little characters? because on my picture i only have the drawing not the little character!!! :) BTW: AMAZING ARTIST!!!

  • Yeh Crilley, Please, Please DO NOT quit your day job. Awesome artist

  • The video was very helpful. I didnt think it was that hard at all and the

  • Can you do a destroyed town, mark? like after some sort of apocalypse type thing :)

  • Uh, that is awesome! I think it's hard to draw backgrounds and nature.../:

  • you are focking good :D i am learning of your drawings ;)

  • Like, Dislike, I never know what to click on, man! Like, Dislike, they both have a picture of a thumb on them.

  • Perpindicular lines cross and make 45 degree angles, parrallel lines are at the same angle and never cross. So your overpass would be perpindicular. Someone's gotta help you out with your vocabulary man. lol

  • Mark used his eraser!!! 2012 is closer than i thought!!

  • Hey Mark, at some point in the future can you do a video on how to color a drawing like you did in this video with water color properly? I've tried using it before and i do use the Bristol Smooth paper but i either use too much water or too much color, the paper gets warped and its just a big mess and ruins the drawing. Any way for a small tut at some point? Thanks -Ethan

  • Please make more videos like this one! I was able to draw everything but that man in the middle of the street lol

  • This really help!

  • This man is the coolest painters I know, he makes such beautiful manga! <3

  • man you rock! greetings from mexico!

  • you know crilley i would love to see you illustrate a post apocalyptic story i think your illustrations of backgrounds can be pretty mind blowing. with that kind of setting you often see backgrounds in illustrations to show the world from a different pov.

  • I think I've drawen everything he's drawen eh it looks ok acurate but it's not the same XD

  • If you do nothing with the finished products, like put them in a cupboard somewhere, or even put them in the rubbish, what you should do is give them away as competition prizes or something, so that people can frame them and put them up on their walls or something, because this picture is definitely a picture I would want on my wall :D

  • amazing I learned alot today from you thank you

  • How do you do it? What is your secret? Those details kvhfkjvfg. The way you seem to not even think about it and just do it dhfdkhjfgf. *falls to knees in a puddle of crys*

  • how do you draw details like that?

  • I think this is going to help me a lot. I can draw faces and expressions and stuff like that, but when it comes to backgrounds and structure and perspective, I'm completely lost. :P

  • You know its really amazing when you look at all the digital art out there and then realize that you can get the same/better effects with just a simple pencil, water color and a lot of talent, practice and passion for what you're doing.... Inspiring stuff... Truly!

  • How did u draw the tiny person?

  • Your videos are amazing. I really love art and i got a bunch of art stuff for Christmas and your videos sure helped me to expand my art potential. Thanks so much markcrilley. You've really helped me out :)

  • Thanks so much for the vid Mark! Can't wait to get drawing in 1-point perspective now, you have given me book loads of ideas! :)

  • *subscribes*

  • Gives me pretty good ideas :3

    Thank you.

  • This is so awesome! :) You always put great detail into your artwork I would very much love to see more of your detailed perspective cities :D! A+ Mark Crilley

  • PERPENDICULAR MAAAN

  • 0:53 omg......... there's nothing I can say, the detail in that is beyond believable. This either inspires me or just makes me more jealous XD

@markcrilley another guy posted this before, but it would be excellent if possible. A background tutorial for a forest.
