  • I just started picking up some of the minis and the game within the last week. With a great group of gamers who play and are willing to take the time to teach me this game. Im really excited to learn it!

  • I really like the look and feel of this game. I'll definitely be getting into it. My only issue, which is kind of small. Is the folding character cards. I want to protect my cards and the double size prevents me from using conventional card protectors. I'll either have to cut them in half and then have 2 cards for each character (like Warmachine/Hordes Warcaster/lock) or laminate them completely open.

  • hmmmm...this looks interesting....

As gamer with famously bad dice, maybe cards would help a brother out? I dunno, I'd probably 'draw bad hands...' lol.

I love the model line, and since my gaming group is dropping 40k this year for Flames of War, I'm looking for something new.

Flames of War bores me to tears, unfortunately.....

Malifaux seems to have a lot of interesting features, so I'll be looking into it a bit.

If you can really play a game of this with like 4 models, I might try it.

  • @speedstacker136 I know, it's the name of one of his abilities

  • So its a game of War, but with Miniatures added in, sounds ok

  • @Andulvar

Theres more variety than war. War would play itself whether you were there or not.

  • @Garlannd I meant as the card game *sigh*

  • @Andulvar

Well, if you look at just the cards you could say its war. That is a verrrrry bad way to describe the game though.

But yes you can use a basic card deck.

  • @Garlannd then whats so different about it? due to using a deck of card you can only have so many variations of a hand and the top card, anyone who knows how to count cards could do very well at the game

  • @Andulvar

Well for one there are soulstones which let you redraw, you have a hand which lets you cheat fate and replace cards. So that's just a few things. And if you're counting cards at this you're missing the point of the game.

I could go into characters and their abilities some allow you to look at your opponents deck and alter the order of their cards or discard their cards etc.

There also is tactics and strategy involved with the creatures and card suits have different effects.

  • @Garlannd Indeed, to me looks like they combined War, Rummy and Miniature warfare into one game, not a bad thing but as i said using cards give you no randomness there's only so much a deck can give in variations, compared to dice rolls

  • @Andulvar

Well even with dice you can learn to throw them so they generally have better odds of landing a certain way. It beats the hell out of throwing about 60 dice like you have to do for some games like Warhammer. The game has a nice clean flow to it and that's why I like it. I agree that there is a limit on cards but the same could be said about dice to some extent.

  • @Garlannd Personally that was one reason I'm not the biggest fan of Warhammer, while I do play it, I prefer a handful of dice over a bucket o'dice

Dice are random, cards are not.

  • Does randomness make a good game though? I mean chess is hardly random and it is probably one of the most challenging strategy games out there.

  • @Garlannd I actually play weiqi since I found Chess to easy, with only about hundred matches against other human players i have rating of about 2100, so I can almost qualify for candidate master

  • @Andulvar maybe I'm late to the party... but yeah, they are. unless you're cheating, a properly shuffled deck of cards will be random

  • @darkdrgon2136 No it will not be, go and look up the mathematics behind it

  • @Andulvar To call it a game of war with miniatures is like saying Warhammer or Warmachine (or whichever dice-based game you prefer) is like playing craps with miniatures thrown in. *double sigh* (and an eye roll even)

  • @kweihs I'm not saying it's a bad thing, but it lacks the randomness of battle

  • A guy at my local Game Daze pitched this game for me. It sounds really cool :) I just need to play a demo to see if it's my cup of tea.

  • lol, they did not prepare well.

    Ramos!! FTW!!!

  • I played a demo of this game and baby cade has really annoying

  • doesnt the defender have a +2 modifier on his flip

  • lol, they actually got cheating in the combat the wrong way around. Notice how they were both equal and the loser cheats first - Agressor wins on an equal, the just get -2 flips. I'm aware they're probably pressured for time in this demo as it's being recorded, but I do a better job than this where I work :P

That all said, Malifaux is a bloody fantastic game. Playing Levi/Viktoria myself. The control card system is a work of art. Every single model is loaded with character and utility.

  • ye malifaux is fun, i play it 3 days a week , i use sonia but more of nicodem beacause he is exeptionally good if you know how to use him =]

  • do you have to paint the miniatures?

  • ye you do

  • kid's got a knife!

  • @imanelfranger that is baby kade

  • These guys did a great job with this demo, it certainly won my husband over. Good job, Wyrd Minis!
