A lot of my friends also favor Hart's side, but I've got a problem siding with the smack addict vs the egomaniac (too much spice vs. ego overide)either way...foundational punk band as HD...great early alt solo act- Black sheets of rain, wishing well, sunspots, it's too late, THEN the Sugar albums (remember before we had Obama's change, the background music for MTVs rock the vote, was the Sugar song Changes/still think of Tabitha Sorenson to this day
It is very difficult to following your incoherent rambling but it is not about siding with either Grant's or Bob's personalities..bottom line is that Bob is much more talented musically than Grant...people tried to paint a picture of this 50/50 collaboration but it was never true...Bob was Husker...Bob was Sugar and Bob is the solo arits that Grant can only dream of...
A motherfucker of a guitarist, and he's written some great songs, but read any Grant Hart interview to see what a cunt he is. And I speak as a lifelong Hüskers fan.
Hüsker '85 @ Newcastle Riverside still = one of the best gigs in my 30 years of gigging.
I saw him on The Last Dog & Pony tour, then on Modulate. I love the Husker Du/Sugar stuff, but didn't really get the Modulate stuff. I'd like to hear the new album coming out.
This was one of the last bands I remember seeing at the end of my club days in Detroit at St. Andrews. An amazing band that lived too short a time. Fewer ego's than with Husker Du and it showed in the music. They were in tune (music and spirit) with one another and it showed. Just awesome
Go Bob! The volume on the drums is turned down, I can't even tell if they were miked. If you don't like it, just remember-it's a Bob thing, you wouldn't understand.
Fine with me if Bob's got a problem with Christianity. Wish he had a problem with excessive volume.
Saw Husker Du and Sugar and they were ALWAYS horribly loud to the point that the songs became almost indecipherable. It was a real disappointment when I couldn't tell one song from the other.
Still, they were two of the greatest bands I ever saw live. Much love to them both.
I saw Sugar live playing excessively loud and pleasing is not a strong enough word to describe how f ing fantastic it was. PS-Dude, the day you wrote that comment is the day you officially became old. I'm sure Kenny G shows won't hurt your eardrums.
Damn, I'm old and only 17. I love music loud, but I've been to shows where it was still loud with earplugs in, and if Sugar played that loud I wouldn't have a whole lot of fun at one of their shows.
What a track, makes me feel better after hearing Bob's latest effort, 'District Line'. Weakest effort since 'The last dog and Pony Show'. It's so bad at times it sounds like Savage Garden.
Great! I saw this when it was first aired. The show No Nirvana - Never Mind feaured loads fo other great bands. Has anyone got footage of the rest of that show???
I have it on vhs somewhere would need to root through about 60 unlabeled tapes. It had Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins - Rhinoceros, Dinosaur Jr - Get Me, RAT machine - Bullet in the Head and I think Meat Puppets - Dollar Bill and maybe a few more haven't seen it since it was broadcast
Could only find the incomplete version for the moment but it has about 7 songs, uploading in parts at the moment. It's good quality too, god bless VHS don't think it would have survived on DVD
The time Nevermind was in it`s creation stage, Bob was in a transition stage. He had alot on his plate. New band Sugar and eventual solo stuff Sugar would not du. The guy was out of a job and had 3 at the same time. Taking on Nirvana would have hurt everyone. I`m sure you will all agree it worked out fine.
thanks for the opinions-- i will chk out "copper blue". 20 yrs too late, but what the heck. great music is timeless! now pardon me while i get ready for tonights Blowoff!
Copper Blue is and will always be recognized as a "classic" album. The opening quartet of songs, The Act We Act, A Good Idea, Changes and Helpless are as compelling a 1-4 as there is, and Bob still ROCKS live and on record. A national treasure.
I agree, Copper Blue hasn't dated at all..i taped this prog and watched it all the time, still got it somewhere..however i think in light of what happened to Kurt it's a pity Nirvana weren't invited to play..
Everytime I put on that album, The Act We Act, man o man, I feel like the fucking ground is going to give way. What a fantastic rush of goosebumps. It's what pop music in heaven sounds like. One of the last great classic rock albums.

Yeah they were loud alright. I like the Husker logo, with the crack down the middle. Earplugs were a must (for me) at those shows.

I prefer to see it as Christianity has a problem with Bob.

@EtherialMoiety It would be good for Bob to fix that little problem before he departs this world.

Crickey, I just somehow got to this after looking up Bikini Kill.
Copper Blue was/is still awesome.
And I'm kicking myself because I let my ex take away my CD of it. But, somewhere, deep in my garage is Copper Blue and Beaster.
Time to open up the garage then...
