@NailBySavy - Yes, you can melt Crisco and slowly add only as needed to the candy or you can melt Coconut oil and add. I was using Crisco and changed to coconut. Be careful - The addition of the oil does change the drying time and the "crunch" of the candy shell. I melt a spoonful at a time and stir, stir, stir! You can order Paramount Crystals online to thin the candy. I have not used that, but other cake poppers swear by it. Good Luck!
PintSizedBaker: I appreciate you taking the time out of your schedule to share how to properly apply the stripes. In the past, I had used the rolled parchment paper with a tiny hole opening...it was too time consuming and it looked too structured. I wanted it too look MORE random & beautiful like yours. THANK YOU for your expertise...now I can get the Pops done MUCH faster. HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO YOU & YOURS!!!
@Almagoth2005 Thanks, If My chocolate isn't thin enough, I will put some in a baggie and cut the corner to squeeze out around the pop. I find I don't have as much control that way and the stripes are thicker.
question: can you use melted canned frosting for this? both dipping the cake pop in completely and decorating? please tell me if this would work, i need to make 160 and icing is cheaper than melting chocolate/candy melts, thanks!
@hermione1135 I have dipped cupcakes into melted caned frosting, but not a cake pop. The frosting will not dry hard and may remain slightly tacky. If you are wrapping them separately, they may stick and smudge inside the bags. The candy melts dry hard, and seal in the moisture of the cake pop. I'd be willing to try it out with donut holes and see how it goes. I also fear that they would be really, really sweet.
@PintSizedBaker yeah you're probably right, any tips on where I can find some really cheap melting chocolate? because I'm in Canada and the candy melts by wilton go for like 3 bucks a bag... i'm assuming I would need a LOT of melts for 160 pops... any ideas how much i would need as well? lol thanks for your help!
