Thanks a lot for uploading this collection. Listening to these songs by great artists we had like Sunil Shantha, Freddy Silva and all who entertained us brought tears to my eyes. Thanks again.
I remember reading this in year 8 Sinhalese text book (years back..)..and then later wondering what happened to the last part that was dropped from it...but, I think the last part adds a sense of mischief which makes the song more lively and real...thanks for uploading the original.
can listen listen listen...again again and again...never feel tired...even with all the noises and quality problems...the song is still one of the most beautifully sung (and of course composed), songs.....
I agree with thishanc...this is truly fantastic. Once I searched in most of the record stores, but couldn't get hold of any of his song compilations....I bought albums of C.T. Fernando & Wally Bastian.....but the music is restored.....they don't know the value of original recordings.....I have another album of Baig & Rukmani Devi...same story....new music...but some times it is better than having none...!!!
This is indeed recorded of the vinyl disc from the SLBC long time ago then copied to a tape (spool) by my self, uploaded with some pictures.
This is the first version which was concised later on with a higher tempo like you said.
Its believed that this was recorded in 1940s according to Dr. Tissa Abeysekara who has some input in his book title 'Ayale giya sithaka satahan'. Worth reading if you get hands on in which he mentions 'sinhala sangeethaye punarudaya' etc.
Many thanks for the valuable information...I prefer this version than the high tempo version. I'll try to get that book also. Wikipedia has a nice story about Sunil Santha.
I don't know whether you like the song 'Monawada amme akuru Jathiyak mal pethiwala kaudo liyala' song. It has two old versions too in which the slower tempo was recorded first and sung by Priscilla Opatha and Kingsley Jayasekara subsequent higher tempo which was broadcast over the 'Sinhala palamuweni sewaya' in the 1970s and 80s.
Thanks for the Wikipedia info, I will have a look at it.

Isnt the Lyrics slightly different to the later version ?
Tamilonthestreet 7 months ago
@Tamilonthestreet
Yes It is. The later version has dropped the last part of the original song. Good observation.

This version is not heard on radio often as the subsequent version was popular and little less too.
Thanks for your comment Gayan.

Do you have the original version of Amaradeva's "Shantha Me Raa Yaame"? That would be nice to see.
