Only problem I have with how this has been planned is that they're racing in the wrong direction. Unless they can make that first corner work as well as Eau Rouge, then I think they should instead finish by flying down that hill.
The track layout looks interesting and challenging. Unfortunately for Circuit of the Americas, the Indian GP already pioneered the uphill blind hairpin.
Indy F1 was doomed to fail from the start. The track layout was contrived and short, and the event was never properly promoted. The Michelin debacle in '05 certainly didn't help matters. Another negative was T.G.
I get good vibes from the Austin event, though. I think it will be successful for quite some time. In fact, I think Americans will get more of a kick out of the V8 Supercars and Moto GP than F1!
i give the track 3 years before the new bride smell wears off. i've seen how the yuppy's that make up the vast majority of F1 fans and teams act. They gave up on INDY. one of if not THE most famous track on the planet. a track that is used to putting on big shows. now they're going to Elroy? 2 words for you Elroy.... TRAFFIC NIGHTMARE!
that being said i PRAY that F1 and it's fans make this track work. i hope in 4 years from now that i can come back and say "ok i was wrong, sorry."
@MuTheta9 don't forget that Indy was also where in 2005 all the Michelin's F1 teams pulled out of the race. That really killed it for F1 in Indy. Not just with the fans, but with Indy itself. They didn't want F1 back either. Hopefully Texas as well as the New Jersey F1 tracks will bring more American fans back to the sport. We also need a good US F1 driver, not another Scott Speed.
