@"Those who are hurt/angry" I am from ICOC and I am truly sorry for the hurt that ICOC has caused. I know that we have been judgmental and I'm really sorry for that. It is wrong to "LORD IT OVER THEM" that is not God's will. I am really sorry for that. If you still think were aweful then pray for us, and we will pray for you also. I hope one day we will meet in peace because of the saving power of Jesus Christ, may the peace of God dwell in your hearts.
do you really think that were so awefull, if you really think were all pharasees then why don't you pull us aside in love and show us our fault so we can change, we want to change, we want to be like Christ through and through, at least I know I do, even though I AM A SINNER I DO fall short, I AM NOT perfect, but I'm trying, and instead of just leaving you could really stay and help with the problems, but I know you feel pushed so I won't push u more.
NOOO I haven't been a member since I left in 2000. I went wild for a while out of anger, but God in His faithfulness called me back to Him, and I gave my life totally to Christ alone, not any church. I now go to a Bible preaching church that teaches ONLY from the Bible, no studies to go through, and have my own personal relationship with Jesus, and I am SOOOO happy! I LOVE my church and my husband and I live our lives for Jesus! They did hurt too many people :(
Hey remember "Special Contribution" My husband and I must have given thousands over the years! first it was double your tithes, then 5X then 10X LOL!! It just kept getting bigger and bigger. I do miss it sometimes, I thought I had alot of friends but when you don't want to be a part of it anymore the members don't talk to you anylonger...(unless their begging you to come back) Leaving was the best thing that ever happened to me. I've learned so much about the whole Church System it's staggering!
the information he is presenting is extremely dates, and no longer true of the ICOC churches. Yes many of his points are correct, we do evangelize on a daily basis and seek to save the lost, but we do NOT believe the only those in the ICOC are saved, or that we are the "ONE TRUE CHURCH" I am a campus student and I devote my life to god, not to the church, and I love the church because all of my relationships in it help me to live the way god has called.
@mshannahpatricia That's not true, I know people getting out from that cult since they keep controlling their lives, even worst most of the members of the icoc suffer from depression.
And yes they still think they are the only Christians saved, that's why they don't let their members to marry with other Christians.
@mshannahpatricia It helps you then keep goin, just don't blame others for NOT going.
I finally left when Henry's letter came out, and that was answered prayer for me because they lead me to believe that If I walked away from the Church I was walking away from God.
They are so wrong on so many levels
I realize now that people need them just as much as they need people. People "want" to be told what to do (The Isrealites were always crying to God for a king when He said they didn't need one)
@mshannahpatricia Continue to give your life to Jesus, grow closer to Him and lean completely on Him. He will lead you out. That church is not a true church of Jesus Christ, it's about numbers and getting more members to pay "tithes"....I believe in paying tithes, but this church does not use it properly, the money goes to the leaders and the members end up struggling. Get out while you can, and just follow Jesus Christ and His Word in the Bible.
@mshannahpatricia Amen! I agree. I am a campus student also, and I started in the church as a teen. Ever since I got to church I saw that God was here. I have gone downtown and served the poor with my friends and I have met other people who follow Christ. I love meeting people from other churches who are spiritual and love God. It is so refreshing to see other lights in the darkness. I am sorry for all the hurts of ppl who are commenting, and that they were sinned against by us
The ICOC is for the most part a den of thieves... with a few good hearts thrown in, but the good ones not in position of power or influence. (it's too theatening to ,leadership) I was a member for 17 years and have been out for 6 years. I know more people now outside the church with true integrity than I ever knew inside the church.
Thank you very much for your videos jkirton. I found your video just before I went to my first ICC bible talk meeting today. I thank Jesus that He has made me aware of the dangers of this group before I got more involved.
This was pretty much my experience with the ICOC. I was involved with them for a few months after getting invited to a Bibletalk and then to countless social events. I found them to be pretty aggressive and cult-like. I think many of the "disciples" are genuine in their attempts, but this system teaches some false doctrines and demands extreme loyalty. I really didn't appreciate how they thought other Christians were not saved or true disciples of Christ.
There have been issues in the past within the ICOC however, if you do your research (which he obviously has not done completely), you will find that there have been a lot of changes and many of the issues have been resolved. As far as us not going to christian colleges we have more than one member going to seminary school See for yourself what it is all about.
Are u serious? I went to ICOC in 2003 and the event described was very much present - thats why I left. Wat u on about? Wats changed? the principles .i.e. u must get baptised and give 10% of ur earnings every month. U attend two meetings in the week and sundays. when u leave u loss all your 'so called' disciple friends because ur no longer part of the click. Get ur facts straight mate!! people need to be educated about this church - all schools and the public must be aware because ITS DANGEROUS.
@jkirton1964 If you were to talk to a current member and listen to them, you can see there is no change.
Still Pharisees. The NIV uses footnoted for some scriptures and leave some scriptures out.
Also, baptism should only happen once. This church practices a restoration (baptism) for those who return, which totally contradicts the bible. Hebrews 6:6
I really feel sorry for you. Listening to you really is sad. I just heard you say someone you knew came to the church and then they were gone, never heard of. Something like that, where did they go? You are misleading Gods children and you will deal with it in the end. We all will be held accountable for what we do. I will pray for you. You make it sound like we can't think for ourselves, buddy you are not in touch with reality.
@linklessamazon Sounds good how u justify child abuse!!! and yes i went there as a kid!!! And teenager! so its ok as long as their not abusing people now hey? lets free all the pedophiles and sociopaths who no longer abuse children or kill people?
A lot of the stuff said in this video is simply not true! I just recently joined an ICOC church and believe me I did my research first. Bible talks are not just to bring people to our church, they function the same way small groups do in other churches, for fellowship and accountability. ICOC does not believe that you have to specifically be baptized in our church to be a christian, we don't prcolaim to be the one and only "True church".
If are looking for the truth and want to be free: search The 1st Council of Nicaea 325 A.D.: The Council That Created Jesus, Part 1 right here on YouTube.
We are just people that love God trying to show God's love to others. And I really feel that if you wanted to help people get to God, you would take the energy and time that you took to make this video and dig up information about our church and use that time to really go out and spread God's word.
Sorry for the long post, but I felt like God really called me to speak about this. I pray that you all will let God guide you through his word in how to live a life for him. Timothy 3:16 - 17
Cammi, PLEASE understand that this is from the period between 1988-2000! And, unfortunately, with the split and all, there is no one reliable to whom I can turn to determine if real changes in the heart have been made within the ICOC. Until the entire organization REALLY repents of their judgmentalism and teaching of false doctrine, then I have to warn others of their dangers.
It's not up to you to determine if someones heart has changed. You can ask them. Who are you to judge. Teaching out of the NIV, how is that false doctrine. I will continue to pray for you.
Also i really dislike the way you are speaking about how we share our faith. Jesus says in Matthew 28 as you quoted that we should " go out and make disciples of all nations baptizing them ..." . I could understand you speaking against the church if we were going out and preaching false doctrine and corrupting people but we are not.
. The only reason why a person is asked to be baptized in our church is if they were ,like in my case baptized as a child, when they had no understanding of what it meant. There are other instances that people feel the need to get baptized again, but there is really only one baptism and we understand this. I do not pretend to know, who can be saved and who cant be saved. All we know is what the bible tells us.
Cammi, this has not always been the case...from 1988-2000, ICOC was freely stating that NO one could be a true "disciple" unless they were baptized in the ICOC!
This church does not claim to be the only church out there where you can be saved. In fact there was a man in my bible talk that after he studied the bible with one of the brothers in the church, the brother realized that he already knew about God and had been baptized knowing fully what he was doing. Thus, he was not re- baptized. There is verse in Ephesians 4:4 that says there is one Lord, one faith, and one baptism.
Cammi, unfortunately, the ICOC (or least, many of them, after the split) are STILL claiming that, not only are they the "one true church" but that those that are non-members are not true "disciples". Cammi, they're either not going to readily admit that or you haven't asked them directly! Sorry :-(
@jkirton1964 Correct. Any ICC member's admission that it's possible for someone outside of the church to be saved is just their way of trying to look reasonable. BOTTOM LINE: ICC member = saved. ALL OTHERS = HELL. Period.
First I want to start off by saying I am very sorry to all of you who have had a bad experience with this church. I know that we all are human, and as humans we all will make mistakes. There is not perfect church, and ICOC does not claim to be perfect.
this is amazing! i just meet a girl from this church... Thanks God i found this on Internet before to get involved more with all this... its sad because looks pretty fine at te begining !!
Yes... I also thank the girl from this church.. because she gave me more information than she should... (that info they are not allowed to tell).. and that way I found this page.. and I could decide not to go to their "bible talks".... God was merciful with me! And I hope and I pray HE will have mercy on that girl too! NOTHING CAN SAPARET US FROM THE LOVE OF GOD!!!
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[a] neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, WILL BE ABLE TO SEPARETE US FROM THE LOVE OF GOD THAT IS IN CHRIST JESUS OUR LORD.
The Word cult has such a bad connotation, but the denotation:a group or sect bound together by veneration of the same thing, ideal etc.
So Sure Its A Cult, but then so is every other church.duh.Dont associate ur bad experience with an entire church.its ridiculous. every church icoc, catholic, baptist is allowed to belive whatever they want. if yu don't want to be apart of it, then don't. thats the beauty of CHOICE:]
so i would say, i dont agree with you but then thats the beauty of CHOICE too:]
Thanks for posting this and getting the word out. My husband (former Dallas member) and myself spent a number of years trying to help folks recover after the ICC.
I find it so enlightening, though, that after nearly 12 years out myself, the charges of bitterness stil reign supreme from the mouths of those who believe they are the "One True Church". Some things never do change.
The first century church didnt use tactics of intimidation and manipulation. As i think about I didnt read where the sinner had to call out a list of dirty laundry of there sins. I guess it was all for the best that I didnt join. I have relatives up North who are faithful members of the ICOC. They arent as fanatical as others but they do walk the walk.
Thanks for sharing.I'm a member of the Deerfield Beach, COC.I obeyed the gospel 10 years ago.5 years prior,I encountered the ICOC first stage of dicipleship and didn't respond to the gospel. I must admit tha I lost sleep from those studies. The thing that got me was that they wouldnt baptise me becuase I wasnt cut to the heart (they want to see me cry). I was ready to surrender all and follow hook line and sinker. Never found the study group again.
It is a group of people with personality problems, victims of abuse who search for a simple world. Because they are insecure to accept that the world is complex and God's word needs professionals to be laid out. I was in that mess. Horrible hell!!!
I was in it for 3 years. I was caught at a very vulnerable time, and I always had a passion for Christ. I always was the "worldly sister" because I wouldn't conform completely to their rules. I left and went dove deep into drugs, sex, and just a bunch of junk before God called me back to Him. He used someone I worked with to speak to my heart and I didn't realize how far I had gone from Him. But I just praise His Holy Name that I now have FREEDOM in Christ!
I'm sorry to hear that you got into sin "like a dog returning to its vomit" (that's what they would always threaten would happen to those who fell away!). I AM thankful that God was gracious enough to spare you and that you have freedom from those addictions in Christ!
@an15ha I hope by "freedom in Christ" you mean u don't attend that church anymore...just sayin.
I guess they're doin what they gotta do, but their position hasen't changed. The one in my town anyway (nor the one in my brothers town for that matter) idk...I can never really trust them again. I went back and visited a couple of times just to see If anything changed. All anybody could ask me was when was I coming back?...I left and never looked back.
I left and returned, in my own sin i realized no other religious group could enlighten me again because it was God who revealed himself. Forget about organizations and be a Christian as long as you are right with God-without Slandering the ICOC. We have to come away from what makes it a cult, which many already have.
Unfortunately, the ICOC is a religious sect, "religious" meaning that you are merely attempting to appease God i/o living a life to bring glory to Him and not the ICOC. I am not meaning to "slander" the ICOC, but to educate others as to my experience and their (the ICOC's) false doctrine.
I hope you come to understand, that you came to God, weather or not you had a bad experience and didnt want to follow anymore. Now understood they became a man-made organization, but remember bro, it doesnt matter what others did around you.
You mentioned "bitterness" . . . funny, you should have seen my first presentation after I had just left: ABSOLUTE RAGE! Now, over the years, with some counseling and a wonderful healing church family, I am much better and more forgiving. Granted, I still take some precautions around those still within the ICOC, but overall, am doing well.
I use to be an ex-member of the ICOC and i have to say they were the closest in resembling to the first century church. Any church that i would go to afterwards didn't even compare to anything that resembles the bible. Sin ran crazy within the congregations. However, when I would ask about methods to confront this the only response was pray about it. How funny next time I see someone drowning I will just pray about it. It sounds like you have a lot of bitterness in your heart.
Prior to my attendance and membership within the ICOC, I was raised in the "mainline" traditional non-denominational New Testament Christian church (think: Restoration Movement) and did not grow up with an understanding of being saved by grace (a concept which the ICOC refers to as "cheap grace" and will not recognize as legitimate). With my background, I too, for a while, believed that the ICOC was closer to the first century church than what I had been raised in..
Jim Jones, David Keresh, Kip Mckean all the same type of people...
All who defend him, I guess I can't blame you...it's not your fault. You are all brainwashed into believing the teachings of this church not just this man (maniac) hopefully, someday you'll wake up. My sister did....Thank the Lord!!!!! Get out now!
Thanks for your comment...I forgot to put more information (can you tell this is my first video?). The audience is a college class entitled "World Religions, Cults and the Occult" and I am a guest speaker there.
I was in the Dallas church in the Metro Singles region.
The main reason for posting is both informative and so that the future college students will have another resource before I come to speak each semester that course is offered.

As a former "Fall Away", I just wanted to say, "Thanks for the support"!
I am also from the DFW Church, around the same time.
It is amazing how God is "Restoring" us "Fall Aways"! HA!
Random Thought:
"Ex ICOCers make great friends"!
Peace!

You know, it always stuck me a little odd as well, especially when I heard stories of people's sin list not being "long enough"!

I left in 2004 and never came back, I still feel angry about the whole thing.
But God was good and He took me out.

They hurt sooo many people.

I am not meaning to "slander" the ICOC, but to educate others as to my experience and their (the ICOC's) false doctrine.
jkirton1964 3 years ago
I hope you come to understand, that you came to God, weather or not you had a bad experience and didnt want to follow anymore. Now understood they became a man-made organization, but remember bro, it doesnt matter what others did around you.

You mentioned "bitterness" . . . funny, you should have seen my first presentation after I had just left: ABSOLUTE RAGE! Now, over the years, with some counseling and a wonderful healing church family, I am much better and more forgiving. Granted, I still take some precautions around those still within the ICOC, but overall, am doing well.
God bless

I use to be an ex-member of the ICOC and i have to say they were the closest in resembling to the first century church. Any church that i would go to afterwards didn't even compare to anything that resembles the bible. Sin ran crazy within the congregations. However, when I would ask about methods to confront this the only response was pray about it. How funny next time I see someone drowning I will just pray about it. It sounds like you have a lot of bitterness in your heart.

Thanks for your comments.

I don't read in Acts that the first century church used manipulation and fear to intimidate others into following Christ!

Get out now!

who are the audience of people you are talking too here? Is this a midweek service or ... and what region are you from?
What made you post this on youtube? just curious to know?
EssenceNYC 3 years ago
Thanks for your comment...I forgot to put more information (can you tell this is my first video?). The audience is a college class entitled "World Religions, Cults and the Occult" and I am a guest speaker there.
I was in the Dallas church in the Metro Singles region.
The main reason for posting is both informative and so that the future college students will have another resource before I come to speak each semester that course is offered.
