It wasn't 100% the ring's fault, actually. Faramir tricked Frodo into calling Smeagol and then captured him. Faramir did something that gave Smeagol more reason to betray his master. So in the end, its not Smeagols fault, it was how he was treated. The ring was part of the encouragement.

I really thought that Gollum's song was the song Gollum was singing when he's eating fish. I loved this song immediatly since the moment I heard it, but I assumed it was about Aragorn.

This is a very well made video. It show's the differences between the characters in the movies/series but also shows their similarities. Almost all have lost someone or themselves. Gollum did not wish to be like that, it was the will of the ring not his own. It enslaved him, as it would to many other if it hadn't been destroyed. Not even Gandalf would dare pick up the ring. It just shows how Gollum wasn't evil, he was tempted, used and then enslaved in darkness for the rest of his life.

@jboweruk no...you misunderstand him, the ring made smeagol kill his cousin...that simple hobbit mind was simple for the ring to control...you see, sauron's ring has a mind of its own, it will tempt you with promises of great things and if you give in to those temptations you will be enslaved by the one ring and share the same fate as gollum

@warbossgrotsmasha23 I think u understand this but this post kind of confuses what u mean. gollum was pretty much a side of smeagol after he let sauron into him sauron has a way of communicating, speaking, acting, through the ring so once smeagol let sauron into him he amounted to nothing and everything was a debate between gollum and smeagol

@764orion the ring is not sauron, the ring has a mind of its own, all the ring wanted was to get back to his true master sauron and for that purpose the ring will do all that is necesary to achieve its goal...imagine that you have a psp that thinks for itself and one day it gets stolen, the psp will do whatever it takes to get back to you even if it means perverting, twisting and enslaving the minds of lesser creatures making them deliver the psp back to you

@764orion in gollum there is nothing left of his former self, gollum himself said that he forgot his name and even the taste of bread, between the ring and sauron there is a link but that link is only achieved when you put it on and as far as i know gollum never put on the ring, the ring was clever he abandoned gollum but didn't forsee the fact that another hobbit found it and tried to corrupt bilbo and it did to some degree but not as fully like gollum
