Perhaps the most disturbing thing I've heard is that once the crabbing boat leaves port, the employees are basically like abducted prisoners. They can't leave when they want, even if they change their minds, they have to stay right on the boat and everyone acts like they are less of a man for making everyone else do their job for them. They can't even go to the store when they want. And don't get me started on the HAZING practices the rookies have to endure. It's OBSCENE!

Also, and all too often it goes unreported, because people have been brainwashed to think of it as "NO BIG DEAL," but often, people eating Alaskan king crab slice their fingers or shells while trying eat the legs during a meal. While many people try to downplay these injuries, the fact is a NASTY infection can result. Untreated, an infection can lead to sterility or even death, not to mention the needless drain and cost to our healthcare system, environmental impacts from bandaids, etc.

But mostly they just sit in their ivory wheel houses, chain smoking, while the exploited crab industry workers risk life and limb to make them rich. It's disgusting and it degrades men everywhere. You don't see WOMEN beign expected to do this sort of work.

Yes, crab fisherman use boats, and so do human traffickers. So the crab industry is responsible for abducted children in a way, by normalizing industry on boats. Therefore the two things are identical. It makes me WEEP for the CHILDREN. How can crab catchers be so "cold?"

Well, actually old bay spice, which goes wonderfully with Chesapeake blue crab. Or so I thought when I was in the throws of crab addiction. I started out on the local Dungeness crab, but grew bored of that and soon needed something spicier and more exotic. Eventually, I had descended into crab tourism, traveling across country to indulge my needs at the crab shacks of Baltimore, under the guise of a "business trip". The seafood industry is insidious!

I guess we need a Swedish model for Crab Fishermen. Like, it's legal to be a crab fisherman, since we don't want to persecute them just protect them from themselves, but it's illegal to be a crab. Or, it's illegal to eat a crab. Or, you can eat a crab, but it's illegal pay money to eat a crab. I, personally, think it should just be between a person and his or her crab, and the government should stay out of it.
