I would love to see Gramtee revert to ghetto talk: "Yo, nigga, where da fuck is my chocolate cake, you think I got dis fat by eating LIME JELL-O?????"
I live in New York, and I know of absolutely no racially integrated churches such as the one depicted here. This is not to say that they practice segregation. However, since neighborhoods tend to be segregated by either choice or economic reality, people simply gravitate toward their own parishes by natural means. I am afraid the show attempts to promote something that is not real.
There have been so many television series about the struggles and hardships of African-American families, and it was finally about time that there was a show about a successful black family. The point was to not focus on the past, but to look into the future, learn from the past what you can but keep moving forward. This show was meant to inspire those families that with a little hard work and determination, this is where you could be.
Roleplay My child: I wanna go to the zoo. Me: You can't because we're going to church. My child: Why? Me: Because I promised we would go. My child: I didn't promise. Me: I promised for you. My child: That's not fair. Me: I don't care. We're going to church and that's final! Now go! My child: (stomps upstairs) Me: (feeling bad, storms out the door, ashamed of myself)
@cowboyboom When Phylicia was pregnant, they hid her stomach and covered over her by her Hillman visits and I think more than once she "stayed at the church and helped" the whole episode. Clair has mentioned church many times.
They didn't have to announce their faith. They showed their unity among other things throughout the series. That's just my opinion. Sorry some feel that they needed to have religion in the show to be spelled out. I thought it was self explanatory.
@cowboyboom um they did go to church in the episode "Mrs. Huxtable Goes to Kindergarten" They never showed a church scene, but it was mentioned in the closing moments of the episode.
@Sexy48f well then call me crazy! The way it is sung does not glorify God!! dont get me wrong i love the cosby show but some of it gets weird! songs are meant to be sung for God not for the people
@TheDaddysgirl214 i know!!!!!! if they wanna glorify God get in a baptist church and sing it right!!!!!!!!!!!! i dont like how they are swaying to the music, but church aint supposed to be all prim and proper either! Gee what is the world coming to? and this was back in the 90s to!
who said that u can only Glorify God in a Baptist Church or any church for that Matter God is where ever He wants to be I'm grew up a Baptist but I don't limit myself to one denomination so longs as I what I DO Glorifies God and Who is to say what you do Glorifies God I can't stand it when people feel that what someone else does does not Please God I think it is beautiful
@Sexy48f yes it is true what you do glorifys God but i chose a poor choice of words there. What I meant to say is a fundamental Baptist church that still uses the KJV not the NIV or the NKJV the KJV! If you are in a church that serves God and gives Him the Glory INSTEAD of trying to please people or try to look good for friends and family! Does that help?
Well It helps but you are still trying to say that ONE set Denomination is right Baptist, Pentecostal, Holiness, Presbyterian I myself I consider myself a Christian only not Baptist or anything else but I am under a Apostle who has a Pentecostal fire anointing with her but everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
OMG I love hearing the soloist sing this song. Isn't she one of the Staple Singers? I would love to hear her do a duet with Kim Burell. I bet they would tear it up. This here is SANGING. I know Jazmine Sullivan could have rocked this song too!
how can you manage to sit still during a song like this, they would have had to cut about 20 times if i was in the audience or remove me 1,go mavis!!! still sound gr8
@dman1351Not sure who the first lady is,but the second lady is BJ Crosby that comes in at 10:08. Look her up on here you will see what she can really do.
i love gramtee this woman doesnt take any shit from anyone! 98 years old and still kicking strong i only hope i am that way if i ever reach that age. take care all
The most moving gospel song/performance I ever heard! I searched and searched to find this episode... Bill Cosby always has top notch performances on his show! Gotta love the cosby show!!! Bravo!
that is for SURE! I still regret not asking my grandma and grandpa questions about our family history, and now it's too late to ask them because they're gone. :(
I very much want to ask my older relative about the family history, however!

The only problem is that most WHITE families, even those with money, do not live this fairy tale existence.

This scene here is proof that The Cosby Show did acknowledge black history to an extent. I love this episode, so much culture.
