This is cool. But yeah, only one Speaker! Funny at the end.Lars did say he couldn't really pick up GH drums when he did play them.He prefered the bass guitar.\m/ Lars Rocks! Metallica Rock! \m/
@Mr1Luciano Joey? Like in Joey Jordison? Like in the most overrated drummer of all-time? I admit Lars is overrated too, but personally I prefer his style and energy over Joey's. Many drummers blow Joey out of the water, like Lombardo, Portnoy, Benante, hell even Shawn Drover of Megadeth does.
@MasterofKnees lol joey overrated?`lombardo better? joey`s drums are way harder to learn then dave`s. dave is just fast, and his drum beats are simple and fast. while joey is both fast and uses harder rythm technic´s. lars isnt overrated if you know anything about drums. you know he is a decent drummer, who is very creative and loves making music.
@lordifandk He is overrated in that people call him the world's best drummer. Don't get me wrong, I love Lars and his whole style, attitude and drumming, and I'm proud to be dane because of him. Lombardo isn't just fast, you should watch some of his drum clinics, he finally gets to be creative, something he hasn't been able to due to Slayer's demands. Joey is also overrated. Good? yes. The best? no.
@MasterofKnees jeg har ikke alle slayer albums endnu men hver gang får jeg det samme beat hurtige stor trommer noget high hat og en masse lille tromme hits
what i hate about when people hate on lars is that theyre comparing him to drummers today who are not his age, 48. how can you compare someone like shannon lucas (who is 27), when their styles are totally different, and lars is older and has worn down his physical abilities...jeeze people if your going to compare him to todays drummers pick a good comparison
Lars Ulrich was amazing for his time. Sure, Dave Lombardo had him beat in the 80's, but he was still good. Compared to some drummer today, he's not that good :p
The reason why Lars had a hard time playing the song is that they haven't played for 9 years at that moment. Imagine you writing a 7 minute long speedy drum track then don't play or practice it for 9 years and then get told to play it without ANY fails.
in his defense: this game is a bitch, especially when you're playing an instrument. you can be absolutely in time by ear, but the prog tells you you're not. after a few minutes though you learn to always be a little bit out of time to succeed^^
The thing is, he's being playing for so long, and it's his own song. It shouldn't take this many tries. The timing is easy as pie compared to most progressive metal. Wowza.
@TopHatsnCanes Okay, here's the deal: Try making a song that's already hard to play and not practice it or rehearse it for 9 years. And then try to play it perfectly. That, my friend is impossible.
People who aren't drummers and have no concept of time signatures don't understand how difficult it can be trying to play a song with odd time signatures that you haven't played in decades.
yeah let me just LEARN IT...it's not like I play in metallica or anything. it's not like I was there when they wrote the song or ever played it before. james said himself the first time he played with lars his cymbal kept falling over
Lars was never a great drummer even going back to the kill 'em all days. Nothing on that album is super technical drum wise. Granted there are leagues of better drummers than Lars but the point is he was always the best fit for MetallicA. Could you imagine Master of Puppets with a blast beat thru half of the song? Wouldn't sound good to me. So it is what it is. He's a drummer in the greatest metal band ever and is on the down turn of his career. 'Nuff said.
Lars was obviously never the best drummer in history but his emotion and heart in playing was genius...His creativity made him the drummer he'll always be..
man... take all this hate to hip hop videos... at least lars shows SOME talent if i can't get ya'll to believe he's a decent drummer, singers today have autotune so they basically talk into a microphone and out comes shitty music that is as "popular" as classic rock (so they say)
anyone who thinks thats really his double bass on the st anger album has never recorded professionally in a studio with all the things u can do with pro tools fuckn christ
I would absolutely LOVE to see everyone out there saying he's a bad drummer to accomplish everything this man has... how many of you are in the rock and roll hall of fame? how many of you have toured for 30 years- and still remain one of the strongest bands? so here's your test- record your own drum cover of ALL of the songs he's played in BETTER than he has and THEN AND ONLY THEN can you say he sucks
@drumandtrackdude I thought we were discussing his drumming skills... He is a bad drummer, regardless of what he's accomplished. BTW, Justin Bieber is an amazing singer according to your reasoning.
@Fucklesticks that's exactly where YOU'RE wrong. he is a very skillful drummer. You can see that in EVERY metallica album, whether or not you enjoy them. Even on St. Anger, where his snare was not appealing to many, he fucking played the drums like a boss. Just listen to the double bass and to everything in the title song. Damn, people like you are so fucking ignorant. Listen to the death magnetic songs, like all nightmare long. Pure fucking talent. You know nothing about drumming :D

@drumandtrackdude Lars is very mediocre at drumming.....i think he is more famous for being in Metallica than for his drumming, there are sooo many more thrash drummers out there who can do better. Also, popularity does not equal talent
Made it in the end my ass.The parts are still wrong and he will always suck.Justice is a great drum album and he peaked musically there but then he became a rockstar.
I love hardcore YouTube critics who hate on everyone but probably do nothing with their lives. He was beast in the 80's when they were touring out of time. But he is obvioulsly drunk and out of practice. Hop off his jock..
i could see him having a hard time doing this.. he has always sped up and slowed down and sped up and 5 times during every song live... its frustrating to watch actually
Would just like to remind everyone that when songs are played live it is more than often played at different tempo. Yes lars is no that good of a drummer, no he is not as bad as everyone makes him out to be.
I think it only goes to show just how unbelievably complex & progressive AJFA was musically. Not even the guy who played the drums on the record could reproduce it!
If he's your favourite drummer then... I mean, damn, he's a funny guy, he made some catchy drum things like Sad but True but he's really not that good... at all. And after black album he just sounds terrible. Unlistenable. Like his banging on empty garbage cans or something.
Chris Adler of Lamb Of God : “A lot of people ask me if those guys have lost step, ‘Did you show Lars some new tricks?’I’ll tell you what. That guy put me down. Hard! I don’t know how he does it.-In your face haters!!!
He has been a touring musician for what 30 years? Anybody who thinks he is a bad drummer is just showing their ignorance. To play high intensity shows for 3 hours 200 times a year takes a great deal of talent. It's time to stop the "Lars is a bad drummer" B.S.
@TheBsk5150 This comment makes no sense. to be a touring musician for 30 years should mean that he knows all the songs PERFECTLY, like most professional musicans would. lars IS a bad drummer because he cant duplicate his own drum parts live. He did make good albums but that was all cut and paste
long hours and your excuses aren't what make a good musician. all these old metallica songs have been played by them for years and years it should be second nature to lars (not to mention how easy they actually are to play). so if hes still making massive mistakes on the simplest stuff it shows hes past his time. hes a bad musician, get over it.
@Discreetarcher3 He hasn't played this song live in like ten years. Just because some of the fans have been listening to this shit for years doesn't mean the band has.
@LedSandman 'To play high intensity shows for 3 hours 200 times a year takes a great deal of talent' has nothing to do with talent. Well he isnt very skilled imo. Some songs are okay, and he has his own style but thats it. His drumsound is awfull ( the tuning). He even uses double bass for simple things and when he plays fast (double bass) its bad.
@Fucklesticks I see, you've been practicing for 10 hours a day for the last 20 years and you're pissed you're not in a band as famous as Metallica. boo.
@Fucklesticks youre right there are many who are better but I think he is quite good in the album and justice for all. his way of playing in the old albums is quite intresting he is a quite creative rockdrummer in my opinion.
@MrTille94 Well yeah, AJFA marked a peak in his drumming career But he started slacking after Jason left. IMO Back in the 80s he was really good, in the 90s his drumming became more simplistic but consistent, and nowadays he's both sloppy and overly simplistic.
@adammccormick95 There's plenty of drummers that still kick ass when they're old. A few cases: Buddy Rich, Nicko McBrain, Dave Lombardo, Mike Mangini, etc. And nobody is expecting him to be amazing again, the problem is he's gotten sloppy and that kinda ruins Metallica's live sound, if he could play more consistently everyone would be happy.
@VlaDuZa Most of us make the argument that he's a bad/lazy drummer NOW. Back in the 80s he was a pretty decent metal drummer. His playing on Justice was especially good from a technical stand point.
Hey dude, I love Lars..He is actually my favorite band member of Metallica (and I play the guitar and not the drums). I was saying it to this dude who said Lars sucks and I meant that there is no way Metallica could have achieved their current status with a bad drummer. However I agree with people who say that his beats repeat themselves. But I don't care as long as it fits the songs perfectly. Plus his fills are very creative and unnatural IMO which makes him a powerful drummer.
@TheBsk5150 I'm not ignorant ;) He really is a bad drummer, he has no technique. I really admire really good drummers like Gavin Harrison, Mike Portnoy etc. The deserve the fame he has, Lars is shit ;)
@Alexawrgren You don't have to be the best drummer or the best guitarist to get big. It's all about great songwriting. The beatles are not exactly technical players.
He failed just as must at ullevi 3 july 2011 or even moore. It was like he never heard the song before at that performance! Lars ain't a good drummer, it would be good for James to replace both Lars and Kirk and put in proper musicians that can play their instruments good.
He's probably so drunk he can't play anything he came up with or anything else in this video. I'll tell you why this is sad. There was a time when Metallica put thought and creativity into their music and set the standard for thrash and after they signed away their souls and made the black album, they have been getting by playing generic, straight beat, made for the radio shit to be consumed by legions of retards. Everything they aspired to be is gone and they are out of practice to boot.
I'm not basing my opinion of Lars as a drummer on this video, but rather on every video I've seen of him playing live. Lars has good ideas, he can pull them off on record, but the man can't keep time live to save his life. Aside from that, he tries WAY too hard, and seems to overexert himself, which is most likely why he is really good at rushing the slow parts and dragging the fast parts. He is in now way a good drummer, other than his ideas and interpretations of the songs on record.
Even though I love Metallica, Lars Ulrich is not the same drummer he was in 1988. And for those who say it is "just age", how come Paul Bostaph, Dave Lombardo, Neil Peart, Charlie Benante, Gene Hoglan, Tom Hunting and others can drum just fine while being old guys? Answer me this, Lars Ulrich fanboys.
@omlesnAlihP agree. peart now is even better than before if possible, maybe not in strength even tho he's a beast anyway, but most of all he tries to learn something new every day and still stays on top.
ulrich, on the other hand, who used to be one of the best metal drummers in the 80s and haters have to deal about that, grew old much faster cuz he stopped training, he's lazy and not a great professional. also his drums knowledge and rudiments are kinda poor and this does the rest.

@TheBsk5150 He IS bad, from a drummer's perspective... Go and compare him to any other metal drummer and you'll understand.
Fucklesticks 3 months ago 31
@Fucklesticks I see, you've been practicing for 10 hours a day for the last 20 years and you're pissed you're not in a band as famous as Metallica. boo.
TheBsk5150 3 months ago
@Fucklesticks Well, from a guitarists perspective, anything drum wise is comparatively easy.
TheBsk5150 3 months ago
@TheBsk5150 And that perfectly shows how mediocre Lars Ulrich is
Fucklesticks 3 months ago
@Fucklesticks I see what you mean, though I wouldn't call him bad necessarily... More like simplistic, as well as completely degenerating haha.
ShittakeBukakke 3 months ago
@ShittakeBukakke That was Lars Ulrich back in the 90s, simplistic but somewhat consistent. I hate him now.
Fucklesticks 3 months ago
@Fucklesticks Well, fame got to him and he kinda bitched out. Eh.
ShittakeBukakke 3 months ago
@Fucklesticks youre right there are many who are better but I think he is quite good in the album and justice for all. his way of playing in the old albums is quite intresting he is a quite creative rockdrummer in my opinion.
greetings from germany :)
MrTille94 2 months ago
@MrTille94 Well yeah, AJFA marked a peak in his drumming career But he started slacking after Jason left. IMO Back in the 80s he was really good, in the 90s his drumming became more simplistic but consistent, and nowadays he's both sloppy and overly simplistic.
Fucklesticks 2 months ago
@Fucklesticks Remember, he is getting old. He was amazing in the 80s. Most metal drummers use triggers on their kick drums now anyway.
adammccormick95 1 month ago
@adammccormick95 There's plenty of drummers that still kick ass when they're old. A few cases: Buddy Rich, Nicko McBrain, Dave Lombardo, Mike Mangini, etc. And nobody is expecting him to be amazing again, the problem is he's gotten sloppy and that kinda ruins Metallica's live sound, if he could play more consistently everyone would be happy.
Fucklesticks 1 month ago
@Fucklesticks Couldn't agree with you more. In the world of great drummers I wouldn't even put him in the top 25 of metal drummers.
NormanRB 1 month ago
@Fucklesticks
Don't know what about you, but I don't think that Metallica got to where it is today, with a bad drummer.
VlaDuZa 1 month ago in playlist Uploaded videos
@VlaDuZa No of course not, and that's because he used to be pretty decent.
Fucklesticks 1 month ago
@VlaDuZa Most of us make the argument that he's a bad/lazy drummer NOW. Back in the 80s he was a pretty decent metal drummer. His playing on Justice was especially good from a technical stand point.

@vio2112
VlaDuZa 1 month ago
@Fucklesticks He gets the job done.
BubblyNinjaFart 1 month ago
@BubblyNinjaFart Not anymore IMO
Fucklesticks 1 month ago
@Fucklesticks You also need to consider that he is almost 50 years old, compared to most newer metal bands, who have 20 year old drummers.
jerrythedrummer 1 month ago
@jerrythedrummer Some of the best drummers are around that age.

@jerrythedrummer Dave Lombardo is his age and he rules on stage.

arabianmetalhead99 3 months ago
@TheBsk5150 i agree but he has lost a lot of his drumming skills over the years.
nunka34ify 3 months ago
@nunka34ify Oh, I'm sure he has, one thing I never considered is: Is this harder because he can't "hear himself"?
TheBsk5150 3 months ago
@TheBsk5150 I'm not ignorant ;) He really is a bad drummer, he has no technique. I really admire really good drummers like Gavin Harrison, Mike Portnoy etc. The deserve the fame he has, Lars is shit ;)
Alexawrgren 3 months ago
@Alexawrgren You don't have to be the best drummer or the best guitarist to get big. It's all about great songwriting. The beatles are not exactly technical players.

He failed just as must at ullevi 3 july 2011 or even moore. It was like he never heard the song before at that performance! Lars ain't a good drummer, it would be good for James to replace both Lars and Kirk and put in proper musicians that can play their instruments good.

this is for Guitar hero, right?
spikeman316 5 months ago
Further proof that Lars' drumming went downhill. I'd love to see him attempt to play Seek and Destroy the RIGHT way.
LombardoDrummer 5 months ago
He's probably so drunk he can't play anything he came up with or anything else in this video. I'll tell you why this is sad. There was a time when Metallica put thought and creativity into their music and set the standard for thrash and after they signed away their souls and made the black album, they have been getting by playing generic, straight beat, made for the radio shit to be consumed by legions of retards. Everything they aspired to be is gone and they are out of practice to boot.
fishguru73 5 months ago
I'm not basing my opinion of Lars as a drummer on this video, but rather on every video I've seen of him playing live. Lars has good ideas, he can pull them off on record, but the man can't keep time live to save his life. Aside from that, he tries WAY too hard, and seems to overexert himself, which is most likely why he is really good at rushing the slow parts and dragging the fast parts. He is in now way a good drummer, other than his ideas and interpretations of the songs on record.
FreightTrain93 5 months ago
Even though I love Metallica, Lars Ulrich is not the same drummer he was in 1988. And for those who say it is "just age", how come Paul Bostaph, Dave Lombardo, Neil Peart, Charlie Benante, Gene Hoglan, Tom Hunting and others can drum just fine while being old guys? Answer me this, Lars Ulrich fanboys.
omlesnAlihP 5 months ago
@omlesnAlihP agree. peart now is even better than before if possible, maybe not in strength even tho he's a beast anyway, but most of all he tries to learn something new every day and still stays on top.
ulrich, on the other hand, who used to be one of the best metal drummers in the 80s and haters have to deal about that, grew old much faster cuz he stopped training, he's lazy and not a great professional. also his drums knowledge and rudiments are kinda poor and this does the rest.
