We are actually learning how to do things from you. You are a kind man. God bless you!

  • @webcajun *laughing* You're great.

  • I'm supposed to be a farmer but haven't been able to grow potatoes worth a damn. I see a lot of important info in your vid...I think you're gonna be our potato guru. Please keep posting, this stuff is solid gold. BTW the dogs are the best part. Is your soil sandy loam?

  • @nevermorefarm ... the soil along the bayou is considered "head land". It's a mix of sand and clay, plenty good top soil.......... Donald

  • you sir are living history .... the all american farmer ! great vid i also feel for you , your back & neck probably hurts at the end of the day. you would think by now someone wouldve stuck a backup camera from an suv on the rig so you dont have to turn 180 all the darn time! aloha

  • @oahuguy ... unless is something critical I usually don't look back very often cause you can bet I'll make a crooked row...... Donald

  • is that 17 17 17 you put on the potatoes Thank again for the Video

  • @webcajun Hi I am from Sicily I know girls who used to fertilizer hello thanks

  • wat type of dog is that great lokking dog oh yer great video as well

  • They are both Labs......... Donald

  • I am in central Texas. We often put the cut side in powdered sulfur to help discourage bugs from eating the planted potato.

  • And I had a bag of sulfur I could have used. I will keep that in mind. Thanks .......... Donald

  • haha when you said seems every thinks going pritty well the dog ate one of the potatoes

  • Yeah she got several, that thief........ Donald

  • aye they just cant help it

  • very good video love that dog lol

What type of soil have you?

I`m on clay and sometime I get scab on my potatoes

  • It's a mix of sand and clay, real good top soil. Outstanding for a garden...... Donald

  • lol@the dog. Awesome vid!

  • Thanks........ Donald

  • My seed potatoes had 6 to 12 inch stems growing on them before i planted them. I always just cut one eye and they always sprout. Some times i only plant a quarter sized peice and it still comes up. I love how easy they are to grow

  • I agree, they are one of the easiest vegetables to grow....... Donald

  • question i planted potatoes and after not showing up for a bit i dug up a few and foud them all melted like mash potatoes and nothjng comming up now some were but a few did this why

  • Maybe the ones that didn't come up had no sprouts??? ......... Donald

  • Is one long row better than 3 or 4 shorter rows?

  • I don't think it really matters one way or the other with potatoes...... Donald

  • nice video. your dog is funny too. ^^

  • Thanks...... Donald

  • have u made a video of how there doing?

  • Will have a May Field Trip later this month...... Donald

  • ok kool

  • LOL Lucy is trying to help

  • Yeah but she was planting them where I didn't want em. LOL ...... Donald

  • It may be a little late but why not give it a try. Should be able to put in a fall crop around the middle of August....... Donald

  • Is it too late to start potatoes this year? Like you, I also live in zone 8 (maybe 9), except I'm in the central valley of California. Appreciate the vids! - Eric

  • Great video.

  • Glad you enjoyed, thanks...... Donald

  • LOL best days video XD

  • Thanks...... Donald

  • Today is the first time I came across your videos, they are great!!

I can't wait to start my garden this year, but there is still plenty of snow covering it.

Last summer, I started a patch of asparagus (50' x 50'), and with the hard winter we got, I am crossing my fingers that they have not suffer too much.

Anyway, still about 2 months to wait until I can put my feet in the garden.

In the meantime, je ne lâche pas la patate!

  • Even in Louisiana it is still early for some things, I have to fight the urge. LOL Glad you enjoy the vids...... Donald

  • thanks!!

  • how long does it takes to harvest potatoes?

  • If I remember correctly it's between 100-120 days...... Donald

  • when can we see an update of your potatoes?

really curious to see what they look like.

  • Should be doing an update sometimes this month. In the meantime you can check them out on the web stie. "Spring Garden" page...... Donald

  • As of today just about all have come up. Going to have a lot of potatoes if nothing happens to em. Thanks...... Donald

  • This is great! the dog made me laugh, thats something my old dog would do!

  • Lucy stole the show...... Donald

  • what kind of fertilizer are you using here

  • 17-17-17

  • why do you stack em on each other like that after you cut em

  • I stacked them on the rack to allow them to heal for a few days before planting. Plans were changed because of rain and I planted the same day. Checked them today and no sign of them coming up. Will try digging tomorrow and see if there are any trying to come up...... Donald

  • I notice you said they are 'seed potatoes' at the start does this mean if I try to grow the ones from the store that also have 'eyes' on them they won't grow?

  • I've never planted any vegetable that came out of a store. I would think that store bought potatoes would grow, just not sure how well they would do...... Donald

  • I have grown the ones from the store but I found that they didnt grow as well as I wanted them to. they will grow.

  • You're welcome.

  • great video. this has really helped me out because I never planted potatoes. but I will this year. lucy is funny. reminds me of my dog when

    he was a puppy.

  • Potatoes are really easy to grow. You do have to keep pulling dirt up to em to get a good crop. Not sure how well these will do because they already have two strikes against them. I couldn't give them time to heal and not sure about the lack of eyes on em. First time both of those issues have come up for me.

I can't wait for that knot head dog to grow out of all that. Shes funny but a hand full right now. Thanks ...... Donald

  • Defense is suppose to be her job HAHAHHHAAH Poor Lucy !!! We have a black female lab that is staying with us while she recovers from A. being spayed and B. Heartworm treatment...coming along fine & will be transported to CO on Wed. I will miss her terribly.

  • The Texan told us that he had been kicked out of that very steakhouse for being drunk & disorderly haha. .He sent us in the opposite direction - back roads to Ardmore OK....... He sat & drank his beer watching us disappear out of sight. hahahaha

  • Never know, he may have been doing you a favor.

  • Hubby & I bought a van in San Antonio a few mths ago - went to pick it up & decided we just couldnt leave Texas without having a Texan steak so off we went following our GPS directions - which led us to a ranch field & announced that we had reached our destination? Before we could get turned around to give up & back to the interstate along came a big Texan, in a #227 just like yours cajun...big can of beer in his paw & when we asked about the restaurant we were trying to find the Texan contd

  • LOOKOUT LUCY he is going into another gear !!! He loves you to bits and would never send you off to another home...bet he would defend you against the meanest varmints in the land ! Thanks Cajun for such awsome vids !

  • Defense is suppose to be her job.

  • Great video! Looking forward to more.

    Thanks!!!

  • You're welcome. Had quite a few requests to do videos on canning vegetables so guess you'll see a few on that this year. In fact you may see one within a week or so...... Donald

  • That Darn Lucy ... she makes me laugh though! She does add more character to the videos though. Cant wait to do my videos this season so you all can meet Logan, my side kick!!

  • She gets blamed for everything that is either destroyed or missing around here. Hope she gets out of that puppy stage soon. Looking forward to meeting Logan...... Donald

  • I showed my husband the video and he laughed all the way through it, we love your dogs........................."there awesome there like your side kicks. they make the video". words from my husband.

  • The person who coined the phrase "man,s best friend" was right on the mark. Since I retired both have become even more attached. They are never far away the whole time I'm outside...... Donald

  • hello sir,

man them taters are gonna taste good comin out dat crawfish pot.

can't plant yet, ground froze up, it's 28 degrees here tonite. bbbrrrrrr.... maybe in a couple more weeks. still got work to do on the "big" garden. have to make a vid and show you what i got planned.

  • You probably have another 6 weeks of prime planting time left so it's no rush. If you miss the spring planting there is always a fall crop which you could plant in August...... Donald

  • I am in San Antonio Texas and this is my first time gardening. I love your videos, I check everyday to see if you added a video. Since this is my first time I am trying decide what to grow/plant. My question is....How many potatoes will come from each half you put in the ground?

  • There are a lot of variables that can affect the outcome such as weather, fertilization, hilling, variety, spacing, etc. In previous years I have harvested anywhere from just a few to over a dozen. They would range in size from an inch in diameter to several inches across and bigger. Potatoes form from the roots up so hilling or how much dirt you pull up the plant stem as they grow probably affects the number more than anything...... Donald

  • I love your dogs they have a personality all of there own.

  • lucy got a potato any way LOLOLOLOLOL

  • Actually she got quite a few. LOL

  • to get bigger eyes try putting them in a brown paper bag for a few days. then you will see biger eyes. I love lucy so much. :)

  • Thanks, I will certainly keep that in mind for next year...... Donald

  • I've enjoyed all your videos, thanks for sharing.

  • Your welcome ...... Donald

  • Man! I love your videos! Nice soil you got there!

  • Soil along any Louisiana bayou is good, rich, top soil which is outstanding for a vegetable garden...... Donald

  • That is hilarious....your Lab taking them back out as you went along planting them! Don't you just love dogs.

  • I always have loved dogs ... now I am not too sure anymore. LOL ...... Donald

  • great vid again mate!

  • It will be interesting to see if they make a crop. Like I said in the video, they were lacking eyes and they were not allowed to heal before planting. That is two strikes against them so guess we will just have to wait and see...... Donald

  • Yeah, she is something else. #&%@*

  • You have the best videos in the whole world. I'm learning so much from these.

  • Oh, come on now...you got me turning red as a Beet...... Donald

  • Thanks for the video.

You have some nice land to use too.

  • Thanks, it's been in the family for generations...... Donald

  • I got a good chuckle outta Lucy's "help". I had to plant my tomatoes in a fenced area to keep him off of them. He picks them off the vine and eats them. Its his favorite treat!

  • She did the same thing with the grape tomatoes I had next to the shop....... Donald

  • i hope those sprout cause if you dont let them dry before you plant they might rot in the ground. or maybe its just me, iv never had any luck with potatoes

  • I know exactly what you're talking about. Butif I would not have planted the same day and gotten a whole lot of rain then it would have been a repeat of last year, no potatoes at all. Out of that 300 ft. row I'm hoping to get a few at least....... Donald

  • I do enjoy your vids!

  • Thank you.

  • Btw,

Is the triple 13 you put on the potatoes?

    John

  • W.C., I see Lucy is quite a joker! She was trying to tell you that you planted them on the wrong row. Still laughing!

    Take Care,

    John

  • When I started editing / watching the video "Joker" wasn't the first thing that came to mind. LOL ...... Donald

  • love the golf cart planting donald, work smart not hard.

my friends said i wouldnt use my mule , now i dont know how i lived without it, get so much more done.

grow an extra row of potatoes for lucy.

  • Ought to see when I hooked my garden trailer up to it. With all my tools hanging out I look like a junk dealer. Last year I had a battery cable that went out, I was in a panic not knowing what I was going to do without it. Jumped in my truck and went buy wire and terminals to get her fixed. Now I have a supply on hand. A lot more mileage gets put on that golf cart than my truck, no joke...... Donald

  • LOL, did I ever tell u about the pitbull that gardens? I got a rescue from a friend that could no longer keep him. The first week or 2 I had him I kept him tied to the cable when he was outside. Well, one day I was in the garden spreading cow manure and there was a bag beside him, he figured out that the bag beside him was what I was throwing about. He opened the bag and scratched it out til he could pick it up then shook it out like I was doing. He looked so proud of himself for helping me.

  • I guess they do think they're helping but most times I'd rather do it myself. LOL ...... Donald

  • Aw, come on now. How could you not love that sweet puppy? Thanks for the info on planting taters, thats something I never tried to grow before.

  • It's getting harder and harder to love "that sweet puppy". You ought to give potatoes a try they are real easy to grow. Fresh potatoes taste a whole lot different than what you buy in the store...... Donald

  • Ive had fresh potatoes when I was a kid and loved em, but my garden is so tiny I hadnt considered planting them in mine. Maybe I will try some in my brothers garden. Thanks again! Daryl

  • Smothered fresh potatoes with onions, now thats good....... Donald

  • Hi 1DRock....maybe try growing some taters in a bucket/planter....there are Youtubers who have great luck with this method.....see Pioneerliving for a great vid on the subject. Best of luck !

  • Thanks for the heads up!

  • Donald, uuuhhhhhhhh! You have a few skips in your row!!!!! hahahaha! I had to watch it twice because I was laughing so hard the first time!!! Lucy needs her own Youtube channel! Great video......Greg

  • I didn't know she was doing that until I started editing/watching the video. I was mad and laughing at her at the same time. She took the first one right under my nose. I sure hope she gets out of that puppy stage soon. I can't remember the last time I read the local paper...... Donald

  • I was laughing my head off at Lucy and then your text comments about her finished me off. I havnt laughed that hard in a long time!! Thank you!!

  • I'm going to have to start keeping an even closer eye on her in the future. She wasn't eating them, just hauling em off.

  • Hahahaha! Lucy got her one! And another one!

What kind of potatoes are they?

  • When I picked them up yesterday I forgot to ask. When I got home I tried reading the label but it had been sewn through. Guess it will be a surprise if they make that is...... Donald

  • seeing that dog steal a potato made me laugh out loud for sure!

did ya plant now cause its past the frost time there, or is it just the time to plant ur taters?

  • Our last frost date is sometime around the end of March. It's just time to plant em in my area.
