  • Kaiba, Kemonozume, Tatami Galaxy, Kaiji, Trapeze... catch up, bro.

  • fuck you, you biased bitch, watch all the anime before generalizing, there are other anime that you didnt mention that are good. and your only talking about the anime after you join the bandwagon.

  • You, good sir, get my subby.

And as for Madoka, you really need to watch it. It's an awesome anime. ^^

  • You sound so white but you're Asian

  • Two more things and I'm done: Tatami Galaxy. I'm seriously surprised this wasn't mentioned here. It's the hipster-arthouse-Cowboy Bebop-loving anime fan's baby, and it wasn't mentioned in this video? Or the comments? Wha-?

Re: Madoka Magica: This is just me being a nerd (like I wasn't doing that already), but it has more to do with Cardcapter Sakura than K-On. It's trying to do with Magical girls what Eva did with big robots.

  • I'm sorry if my comments come off as rude, but as an anime fan, it urks me a lot when I see even more whining about shows like K-on and LS the have said whiners completely disregard shows like Shin and Birdy. It's disheartening to me that people seem to like complaining about shows that don't fit their preference, rather than looking for shows that do. There has been empty seasons, but the claim "anime is getting worse" is just wrong, and smacks of a person that just didn't look.

  • While I too have skipped a lot of series, there have been some epic gems that I've found next to no one talk about. Birdy the Mighty: Decode (ESPECIALLY season 2), a series about a strong independent space cop. Great animation, great plot, low on cute girls, no one watched it.

Shin Mazinger, a re-imagining of the original super robot show Imagawa. A show that I honestly think blows GL (story wise) out of the water . Amazing plot, twists everywhere, great characters...an no one watched it. cont.

  • People are still crying about K-On? Seriously? I haven't watched the show, nor have I watched Lucky Star. In fact, I've skipped all "moe" shows until 2010 with Ika Musume and Milky Holmes, but I can't be the only person who immediately face palms when I see yet another person complaining that Japan had the AUDACITY to make something about cute stuff, which they've always done.

    (Continued in the another comment)

  • I have been watching future diary recently and I have been enjoying that quite a bit, but it is very difficult to find something worth watching.

  • tits ass & **cameltoe**

  • Personally, I didn't like CG or Baccano, but for the most part, I agree that a lot of pre-2007 shows (for me, that'd include Welcome to the NHK and Mushishi) are generally a lot better than shows that have recently come out. Still, I'd also argue a lot of those shows are way over hyped.

A lot of the stuff that comes out nowadays is pretty generic or downright terrible.

  • U should watch fate/zero. It was brilliant and the kind of show that you're looking for

  • i dont think all new animes are bad there is some good ones that came out there for me my fav one that came after 2007 that i can think of this second is princess jellyfish bakuman and brotherhood and i am sure before 2007 there was some bad anime as well or other words lacking we just dont hear about them cuz we mainly focus on the good ones from back in the day

  • What about Soul Eater?

  • @phantomlightmedia Soul Eater was started in 2004.

  • You can might as well take the '?' out of the title. :(

  • Moe>Gore

  • the only anime from 2010 that really stood out was "Rainbow Nisha Rokubou no Shichinin" I would put it over Steins;Gate anyday.

  • i think guilty crown has some potential, [c] had potential and slice of lifes are funny but i think its the half season limit that kinda ruins some anime

  • @thesilentyak "guilty crown has some potential" are you trolling or what?

  • @TheEmoSpider what you dont like guilty crown? lol

  • @thesilentyak There is nothing to like about it. Animation is decent, that's about it.

  • To be honest, I find old stuff so much easier to watch and I tend to enjoy it more. For to reasons.

Older stuff is normally finished so you don't have to wait for new episodes to come out and secondly There seemed to be more imagination back a decade or to ago. Call me biased but that's just the way I see it.

  • It's not just you, I feel this way to. Anime releases these past two years have been seriously underwhelming. There haven't been that many new exciting anime-projects. It's fine if one like the slice of life genre, I personally can't bring myself to care much for it, but almost all new anime have to be of the same genre?

It just feel like the anime-industry has used upp all their reserves of creativity and fresh ideas. The only new anime that I have liked have been Star Driver and Tiger & Bunny.

  • Lol wow really a 5th season? i seen the 1st season it was fucking horrible.

  • For the most part, I believe you are 100% correct. Anime as of now hasn't been living up to the "epic" expectations. But even if its not much, I can at least name two animes that did a fucking fantastic job after 2007: Soul Eater and Black Butler.

  • "waahhhh my animes aren't deep, grimdark, and edgy anymore. i want my spikey haired human/demon hybrid trenchcoat faget who pilots a giant mecha and wields the sword of yukinipkokochingchang-san of the south in a post-apocalyptic setting."

    Deal with it, loser.

  • @Accelerator11 how that fuck is that deep and grimdark?

  • I enjoyed Cowboy Bebop, Gurren Lagann and Code Geass.

I enjoyed Lucky Star, K-On and SHAFT in general.

So yay for me I suppose?

  • I'm a mindless moe zombie, and proud of it.

  • @DmonHiro Moooeee.....Moooeee......MOOOOEEEE.....Sorry.

  • (Cont. from least comment.... if you wanna read the giant rant about my friend... lots of typos :/ so yeah..)

My friend on our bus seems to only watch this new anime stuff.. and it makes me sad when she ignores some of theese good past animes.. thankfully if I pester her enough she gives in and ends up watching some of them, but to annoy someone day and night takes patence and willpower whitch is something i don't have much of...

  • Wow.... It's sad to say that I agree with this.... I may not know much being a young teenager and a manga fan more than anime...but I agree... Moetron has taken over all the anime in the recently.... It's like a flock of moe cows walked in and trampled anime as a whole, leaving no sprouts of good anime to pop up... I do say that SOME good anime has come out.... but the rest are just fanservice-filled moe-ness.... no real substance...

  • @epbod12 I totally agree. Moe is a pest.

  • have you seen bakuman its great

  • A huge majority of the anime that came out after 2009 sucked. There were a couple of good shows and OVAs here and there, but other than that, most of it has sucked ass.

  • I enjoyed puella madoka, and have recently been trying to watch more of the new anime coming out to not feel too outdated

  • ooh not this bitching attitude again

I've seen a dozen of people complaining that music, movies, books, anime and everything is not so good as before

there will always be bad and good things It matters only whoich ones you pay attention to

  • I know it's not anime but you should review my little pony

  • @father042 oh god... don't get him started on that -.-" we'll be here for hours... that pile of raw sewage can't even be called a show...

  • FUCK YOU CRAP ANIMA!?!?!??!

  • its ture ive watch almost all of the old animes and its wayyyy better then the new 1s but even though some new animes r good 2 :P

  • Personally I loved Durarara!! and I think the focus on Mikado, Anri and Kida was great for the plot! I also think recent anime isn't that bad. For example, Ao no Exorcist (a recent favourite of mine) is a 2011 anime and I think it was great!

  • @TheAnimeotaku08 Yes but we all wanted more Shizuo.

  • @PyroKnight25 so true! Shizuo's so handsome, badass and cool! <3 But think about it this way, if Shizuo was focused on more, there'd probably be a lot of yaoi fanservice within the show with Shizuo and Izaya.... (no offense if you like yaoi or to anyone else that does!)

  • @TheAnimeotaku08 I think durarara would be even better if it focused more on Dotachin gang

  • @TheAnimeotaku08 Ao no Exorcist. Even the title makes chuckle.

  • @realdomdom What's wrong with Ao no Exorcist!?

  • also Check out top anime list on MAL

16 out of top 30 anime are from 2008 and newer

  • Kara no Kyoukai, your argument is invalid

  • the best anime came from the 90's.death note is the only 20's century anime i think is epic{memorable}.now its all ecchi and cutsy trash

  • @barcakid101 Indeed. Moe/ecchi seems to have infected anime recently.

  • I really don't understand why people like Moe. I really don't. No girl in their right mind will start crying to look "cute". News flash. When you cry, you get a runny nose, a funny sounding voice and your breathing becomes random gasps. Yeah. You can tell I don't like Moe.

  • @Lollipop708 Anyone seriously enjoying moe must have a really bad personality in my opinion. Oh, today's youth.

  • @realdomdom The only instance that moe has ever worked is higurashi. Thats it.

  • Bloody Brilliant! I could not agree with you any more...it just seems that the studios have gotten lazy...that being said, when am I going to get my Gundam fix?!?!

  • actually... Redline topped everything for me so far.

  • YES.... i like the older animes and i came into liking it in 2009 so there is my own issue with new anime. like how it all looks so generic. the anime art style is nice but all the eyes in newer anime look the same. some great older long runners. dbz, one piece, naruto (till ep 130) bleach (till episode 60), detective conan, death note, ranma, hokuto no ken, shaman king, yu yu hakusho, pokemon, yugioh (the first one) etc. the older ones are great and i wish they went back to that.

  • check out nichijou

  • Indeed, Moe and harem series burn my eyes.

*gets mauled by many an anime fan*

  • Amazing video like always gigguk, but I fell its kinda off sad that you make this video without having watched madoka magica. Its the best original anime since baccano in my opinion. I know its late to say something like this now, but I wish you would watch and review madoka magica

  • haha i like your rants!

  • -continued- all i want is a kickass anime with action and a good storyline. ive seen enough slice-of-life and fan service for a lifetime.when i try to find a good series i find i have to wade through the countless drama infested crap. dont get me wrong there are good anime that have that but,it should come in moderation. if you see too much of something youre bound to get bored of it. if your one of those people that havnt seen older shows then you dont know what you missed. im almost envious.

  • i agree with a lot of this video. specifically the amounts of slice-of-life stories and the fact that almost every anime these days is more "daily life of the characters" than anything. but think about it...ISNT THAT IN EVERYTHING?? TV shows especially. i can think of a ton of tv shows that are basically the daily life of anyone and everyone. pawn shops, rep companies, random beach people, gold miners. and MANY MORE. its like a trend. people want more life than fiction.

  • Guilty Crown

  • 2012 bring on the REMAKES

  • i miss art style in late 80s

  • And remember its the people that the show is made for that give the show power if the show is truly shit than it will become unpopular and people will move on but if it has a defining element that people enjoy it will still only get 2 or 3 seasons so don't hate the show hate the views. overall though this is a good thing with all the profit made from these smaller anime these companies can finally move on to the good stuff we have all been missing, this is all just a passing phase.

  • While you may or may not agree wether or not this is a good thing or a bad thing, you cannot deny that the amount of fans has increased by substantial amount. This is a good thing because with the popularity of these new shows growing people will begin to realize that there pretty following a stereotype with some variation and go seek forth and discover other anime, except those who watch it for the moe.

  • While granted, anime in recent times has taken a new direction, but i feel that since the people that make anime are running out of manga to base it on they've been forced to take this new turn in order to try and boost the numbers.

  • Hey gigguk, how about this for a top ten list. Anime's that shoul be finished or at least get one more season.

  • Will you be able to watch and review Puella Magi Madoka Magica?

  • im tired of moe type characters ,there are too many of them honestly speaking

  • I love Durarara but I agree; it would have been way better if it focused on Shizuo and Izaya (and not in a homosexual why, you sick yaoi fan girls). They were just way more interesting to watch and had more character.

  • hey can u reviwe nana

  • yo gigguk what do you think about mirai nikki?

  • IMO those remakes are really important

HxH had no Chimera arc and the series is still ongoing

FMA (while the original was perfect) I'm still looking forward to watching the more faithful version because I heard the manga was awesome itself

Berserk: Not much info about it but people say it's really good and the old anime is like 25 episodes while the manga is...too long now

As for the new animes nothing is really special..I mean Toriko is just taking the Lady Gaga route...

  • Oh you need to watch Black Butler!! It came out in English 2011

  • I got so bored watching Code Geass.

  • One really good anime that came out in recent years is 11 eyes. A supernaturally type anime that has a good story but the last few episodes threw in a random plot twist. Another new favorite of mine is yumekui merry. Hope that if you watch them you will like them. Oh yeah almost forgot yumekui merry has a different story in the anime then the manga. Just telling you. And also I do agree that most anime now isn't as good since most of my faves are ones from at least 5 years ago. Like code geass.

  • @CasualShinji Actually, the thing ive been enjoying most recently Have been the feature films. Stuff like the girl who leapt through time, summer wars, red line, the Eva rebuilds and th haruhi movie are the ONLY stuff that have been outstanding for me in recent years

  • @gigguk As a mild media buff, I find that the issue you address in this is not limited to anime, but music, television, western cartoons and movies, but judging from what you said with the remakes of FMA, Kenshin, and HunterXHunter, you already know that. But unlike the remakes of movies Hollywood, I prefer the FMA, Kenshin, and Hunter remakes, because they're made to be in line with the manga where movie remakes in Hollywood are an introduction of a classic film for a new generation.

  • @gigguk Yes. Feature films are the only good source of anime nowadays.

  • @gigguk

You may be interested in Katanagatari, Bakemonogatari and Black Rock Shooter, they aren't going to set the world on fire but they do their own thing and have their own artstyle, no moi.

  • I wish for you to review HOTD.... So you can tell them that anime is a PIECE OF SHIT.

  • I think you've missed one huge argument of why anime now sucks; The lack of feature films.

Movies like Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Robot Carnaval, Neo Tokyo Labirinth, Memories. This was the quality of japanese animation that gave Disney a run for its money and it's pratically disappeared. We still might have Studio Ghibli, but Hayao Miyazaki isn't getting any younger and they're literally the only japanese company left that makes above average animation.

  • @CasualShinji True, most new original anime films have been a disappointment. Makoto Skinkai's new movie came out recently, Hoshi wo Ou Kodomo - Children who Chase Lost Voices from Deep Below, and it was so underwhelming I can't describe how disappointed I was. And Studio Ghibli hasn't been at it's A-game either recently.

  • @copyninja89 What I'm wondering is, where are all those big name anime creators? Katsuhiro Otomo, Koji Morimoto, Yoshiaki Kawajiri, Mamoru Oshi... Satoshi Kon has a good excuse being dead and all, but what the dickens are all those other guys doing?

  • @CasualShinji Good question. I know that some projects take time before they air or hit the theaters but these people with the exception Mamoru Oshi (Director: Ghost In The Shell 2.0 and Sky Crawlers) haven't had a big project in years.

R.I.P. Satoshi Kon, it was a sad day for the industry when he passed away. :-(

  • @CasualShinji Working in video games because it's more stable and more money.

  • Fun fact: The only difference between anime in 2004 and anime now is you aren't being spoonfed the deep gritty adult shows that come out about once a year.

  • I kinda agree with you, but I personally enjoyed Durarara!! and Angel Beats as they were. The one thing I do have to say about Angel Beats, though you did mention, was it was too short. They really should have extended it, because I was quite curious about T.K. and the others but whatevs. I also love Gundam 00, which in my personal opinion totally makes up for that waste of time and effort Gundam Seed, and 00 is still releasing some awesome stuff, though I will admit the movie was meh.

  • I seriously hate the fact that studios just think that can get by just by making the next K-ON or other moe show. I want some RISKS taken dammit.

  • I agree that anime has been lacking.

Lets point to the great one itself, Cowboy Beebop. Also its progeny, Wolfs Rain and Samurai Champloo. CB was amazing and is THE anime in my book. WR was stylistically dramatic and a head turner, not the best but still good. SC was another style over substance that made my jaw drop with each episode.

Overall there hasn't been anything that's come close to that level of fidelity in a while (Baccano being the closest and Durarara being the second).

  • I loved steins gate, dRRR, and summer wars. I don't think anime Is getting worse . And for the remakes I like them, I never got to fully enjoy HxH as the age got to me (I can watch oldies but some I just can't get into because of it. Though the remake has made me go and watch and enjoy the old one. I loved NHK and many others from 2004-2007 but I wouldn't criticize the present anime just yet I can still find at least one series to watch each season.

  • gigguk your very unique with both your review and your rants etc

you kinda remind me of Yahtzee i really am a fan of your channel and to the others this is an opinion dont say its wrong because its an opinion aka personel and why cant 99% of the internet not deal with others opinion ok he likes other stuff and msgundam2 like other stuff no reason to get mad

and sins when are there requirements of anime fans =_=

  • there is one modern anime witch i like that's fairytail

but true that the rest is just moe and high school or tits and true that they need to make more good shows another great anime rant keep up the good work ^^

  • the first movie of berserk will be kind of pointless for most and I will watch it because well why not its new and its improved nuff said but the next few movies will be where the actual progress comes in where the manga being just ink and paper to a living breathing picture on the screen to progress where the anime abruptly stopped but I do agree on what you say about how all anime now days is SSDD

  • you should watch gintama. not exactly like all other shounen jump bubble gum (like bleach or one piece) this anime really manages to combine mind blowing comedy and a good (somewhat weird) plot, awesome loveable caracters and self irony

  • I realized that I don't hate anime, I hate most anime developers because they just keep putting out terrible anime. I think if companies would be more selective on what they make then anime quality would skyrocket (look at American animation- quality not quantity).

I'd love to see more anime like Baccano, although I nearly lost hope when I realized theres a 40 min anime of a girl taking a bath.

  • @Okamifanj

Looks like we both agree on that.

Mainly because western animation has me going back and re-watching it because there was quality writing.

  • the same is hapening with games:(

  • I don't really know. My hypothesis it's that instead of there being less good stuff, there is just more garbage.

  • Even though K-On! haters will blame it for the beginning of moe slice of life shows,

K-On! was way better than all it's imitators. And because the show got better in season two which even the best of shows can't claim.

  • As xXxDeadOtakuxXx go watch souleater and D-gray-man(it ends prematurely though which was a disappointment). I would also recommend the hellsing OVA if u havent seen it already. Also if you need an anime to kill some time: the anime with the most memorable characters, in my opinion, is gintama art gets better later in the series.

  • I feel that recent Anime just isn't enthralling you as much as some of your past favorites have , keeping in mind that anime creators are trying to pander to a Community far larger than you that requires something Moe to go on living (not to hate Moe, i find a few shows quite enjoyable myself) If you are lost for some good anime that has recently come out, might I direct you to Guilty Crown, Bakuman, D.Gray-Man, Mirai Nikki, Soul eater, xXxHolic, Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicles, or Hidan no Aria

  • BEST INTRO SONG EVER IN THE BEGINNING hellsing FTW

  • as long as you dont insult clannad directly u wont go to hell

  • im also not a fan of moe genre, and yes i agree 90% of anime is crap now its either something cute or all about tits.

  • yes

  • Anime, nay, any form of media hasn't gone downhill. Everyone seems to be looking at the past with rosy shades. But let's face it, the old days had their fair share of shit too. Media has NO time stamp for quality on it. If it's good, it's good. If it's bad, it's bad. Get over it people.

  • So, giggukk, what do you think of Nichijou? Just wondering. And regarding the video, I wouldn't know. I started watching anime in mid 2006.

  • i agree.. the shows i mentioned below are not fan service and are not lacking in any way. they should make more shows with rememberable characters and storytelling... originality

  • EPIC ? lest's see 1# GTO 2# Cowboy bebop 3# FLCL.

im old school classic but i do like Heaven's lost property (it's sexy with style and lol)

  • Lucky star is epic.

  • @msgundam2 I find it hard to find the credibility of your comment when you say anime being more like the critically acclaimed ghibli productions would be a bad thing but oh well.

Yes moe has been around for a while, its just recently I see less innovation in story and plot when every studio is trying to churn out the next K-ON. Haruhi and CLANNAD proved that you can have moe and still have a good plot

p.s. it's IGNORANT to say someone's not an anime fan just cause they don't like what you like

  • @gigguk Just one thing. Realize that "Someone's trash is someone's treasure." When you say it would be good if anime were more like ghibli productions I say you're wrong. Why? Because people must have the right to like something, even if it's completely different from you. I thank god that anime is so diversificated, of course that makes me deal with what we don't like, but you'll have a higher chance to find what you like. Don't take my comment to seriously.

  • @gigguk i agree with what you said, but there are a couple anime that im not sure if you had seen in 2011 called Ben-to which is a hilarious action series where the characters fight over boxed lunches and the anime Guilty Crown which is a shounen with what i would call an original plot that i havent seen anything else do yet, it's animation is also amazing better then any show i've seen yet

  • @gigguk The only anime i've EVER watched are Death Note and Angel Beats. Death Note was Perfect in every way, Angel Beats was , well music and animation was great, plot too rushed and unfinished. What the hell should i watch? I hate all these new robot, fan service and dumb as fuck anime. I don't like futuristic shows, shows with characters who have super powers etc.

  • @mytubenik Hajime no Ippo, Very funny, realistic sport anime(boxing), Crazy fun characters. It's two seasons, figting spirit first., new challenger is second season,

  • @msgundam2 wow, ur a faggot hipster elitist nerd

  • Anime has been lacking, but I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Gosick as it doesn't exhibit boobehs and pantehs all the way through and is actually a really good mystery story.

  • they have been lacking a show which gives you a "wwwwwhhhhhhaaaattttt" feeling but doesnt drag on and has no great plot anymore like bleach (im not hating bleach it just the plot of the story died for me and doesnt give me that big interest anymore) to tell you the truth i think that the best ones that gives you that feeling is Berserk and Zetman! i just want an anime thats not only about tits and panties ii want a show which i can watch and after awhile look at the time and say wow its 2 am!

  • @tomboysam333 2 am lol cute

  • There's still quite a few good series.

Take a look at Fairy Tail.

  • if u wanna see an anime that has that whole EPIC feeling (not the nerd use of epic but the real meaning of epic that u said at the begining of the video) u should totally watch One Piece. its fkn amazing, its easy to understand, actually answers a lot of secrets, it gives u goosebumps and probably one of the few good anime nowadays that doesnt do that highschool bs or slice of life bs and dsnt have HUGE ASS FUCKIN EYES. u shuld try it out dude ull have no regrets

  • myanimelist(.)net/topanime.php just saying

  • @kurosawanoriko lol gintama made it to top 5 twice

  • no has not been lacking bt there are some bad ones personally i like anime and i'm open minded so i watch every genre that includes Moe and come on man fan service is not the only thin HOTD has going for it i mean zombies epidemic spreads and they start feasting next thing u kno chaos every where ur so called friends stepping on u to save them selves, human nature, some mystery, it has all these great qualities

  • @piratehunterzolo87

ps. i like clannad a lot it had asad story man so it wasnt bad

  • No, new anime doesn't suck. Anime dubbed by 4Kids sucks.

  • its lacking but i like hotd.

  • my eyes

  • i have to agree, anime in recent years has been lacking the same sense of awe and epicness that the older anime possessed, but there ave been some shows that i really liked, ano hana for one ( im glad that got a mention) it was sad and dramatic, if not quite up to par with clannad, but i didnt expect it to be, so while anime has been better in the past, its still damn fun to watch

  • I agree to a certain extent. A lot of anime is not that good. One of the issues I am having is that the shows are starting 2 feel cliche. But only cuz its cliche does not make it bad. I am simply being more picky about what I watch. Fullmetal alchemist is a bad example because they followed the original story, something the first anime did not do due 2 the rate episodes were being made vs the manga.

  • They made FMA: Brotherhood because in the original series they were making episodes faster than the manga could be made, so they ended up splitting from the story and doing their own thing later on. In Brotherhood it follows the manga right down to the last moment.

  • Also where is the Sora no otoshimono

  • where the crap is clannad

  • the fact that you havent mentioned clannad after story completely invalidates this video.

  • @zosomaniac32 The fact that clannad first came out in 2007, and after story is just a sequel to that completely invalidates this comment

  • @gigguk clannad started airing in late 2007 and aired mostly in the 2008 period, And after story aired in 2008. and the best part of the series was in season 2 which falls in the 2008-2011 period. so please do some research before coming up with such ignorant replies. although i do understand ur stand. mentioning clannad after story would make this whole video more of a joke than it already is.

  • @gigguk good one XD

  • You're right in saying that Durarara can't stack up to Baccano; you can't really expect anything to stack up to Baccano, but I feel that Durarara was certainly respectable in its own right, and it would be getting better reviews if people didn't make the (reasonable) comparison.

It seems to me that the 'epicness' you're looking for comes from non-traditional battle animes, but feel free correct me if I'm wrong. Guilty Crown might be your best bet, but most of the character are a bit weak.

  • my opinion i think Madoka magica was one of the best this year, i love that anime

  • I for one thought Angel Beats was really good. That's just my opinion though.

  • You forgot something: ever since higurashi, all anime needs to have a character that's mentally unstable and goes insane

  • I love almost any kind of anime that makes me laugh, think, keep me on the edge of my seat or have out-of-this-world-good animation. most of the new stuff coming out, as you've said, lacks almost all of these things and is just BORING. my opinion will be biased because i don't like most mecha, slice of life, fanservice or just plain random anime, however, i really enjoy guilty crown, haruhi, high school of the dead and flcl. i guess sometimes you can find the rare gem in a mountain of crap.

  • i'm sooo glad Berserk is being remade but, i don't think brotherhood was all that neccesary. it's not like it used cell animation or anything like that. i'm dissapointed with all the remakes. and i agree with you on Durarara! highschool kids (one with tits) or HEADLESS FAIRY. oh i guess tit's won again :'<

  • Anyone else think that some of the anime coming out now LOOKS the same. It looks like it was all drawn by the same person! Its frustrating not seeing a big variation in the art.

  • You should Review Slayers <333 the best anime EVER!!!

  • Wandering Son is as good as any anime fromm ANY time period imo

  • theres a new berserk coming out D: oh my shit brb

  • Y'know, I do hate to admit it, but he is right. As far as anime goes, a lot of writers and studios just seem to be playing it very safe compared to most of the classics from 2004 to '07. And the best anime out there are mostly remakes and the like. *coughBrotherhoodcough* Hell, my favorite anime of 2011 is easily Persona 4 The Animation, but even that was simply an adaptation of my all time favorite video game. :/ We're way due for the next biggest anime hit by now that's actually good.

  • I dont know if anyone else has noticed, but nearly all forms of media (videogames, anime, movies, tv shows) have run out of damn ideas. Now if try to watch an anime or go see a movie i feel as though i've already seen it.

  • Hmmmm... Seems like your only targeting/using as an example those which where dubbed or has been critically acclaimed by anime fans? yeah?

How about searching for hidden gems and such?

As you may know there are a lot of thigns you may or may not have watched in the recent years.

Take for example Usagi Drop, one which came in along Madoka Magica... but you have failed to address. One needs to actually account for for all of the animes released within the time period to properly gauge its quality

  • One show that came out in 2008 (a second season in 2009) is Spice and Wolf. It may not be up your alley, and it definitely isn't epic, but it's still very good. At a glance it looks like a pile of pandering crap, but the scenes that might be considered fanservice are kept tasteful, and it's not only filled to the brim with witty dialog, but it also has some of the most believable, likable, and well-written leads in recent memory, and it's one of the few recent anime that I can truly call unique.

  • i hate to admit it, but you're right gigguk. similar to hollywood, anime has begun to run out of ideas and it shows. while every mode of entertainment may very well be jumping on the proverial "band-wagon" (movies with loud robotic sound-effects and shiny CGI over well scripted originality/ vampire books/ zombie games) anime seems to be throwing in the most and it shows. i used to watch anime nonstop four years ago, nowadays, though, i can't find anything good.
