I have federal insurence. You know that same type our federal public servers have today. It came from the U.S.P.S. just before a decision was made to go to a socialsecurity system, employs started shooting, the whole insurance program was placed in private company hands, and like I said still that one or two hour wait. I cannot believe someone would use this to argue against universal health care. If I go to a hospital, I am sick not let foe an appointment .
Mike is making the distinction between mantaining health care and emergency response. I think our emergency health care is good. Trips to the doctor's office, minor surgery, elective (now there is a misnomer) surgery for the most part sucks.

I've "maybe" been extremely lucky, but even in my "underserviced" area, Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., I've only waited about 20 minutes for care. It was never a "life threatening" situation. I told my son to bring his homework, while he waited for stitches. None of those times, were we there longer than an hour! Just lucky???
Canadian healthcare is a joke. My dad is 50 and needed knee surgery to repair torn cartilage a couple months ago. He was put on a waiting list 6-8 months long. So in Canada's "awesome" system the best my dad can get is an 8 month wait where he is in pain every day and can't even sleep at night. He went to a doctor in Cleveland and for $10,000 got the surgery done 4 days later. Thank God for America's private medical system or else my old man would still be in pain.

My dad lives in Southern Ontario (Brantford specifically), but he contacted all the hospitals in the area such as London, Toronto, Hamilton, etc. And my dad has pretty good connections since he donates lots of money to the Brantford hospital and has served on the board of directors. I know America's system favours the wealthy but at least you can get surgery done quickly and don't have to pray for fast waiting times.

For total knee replacement surgery, again, Branford is showing the lowest at 45 days. If your dad served on the board then he would know what key ortho's to contact and see who would have the shortest wait time.
Many Americans have to pray they don't get a serious disease as they couldn't afford the treatment.

And yes, 41 days can seem long when in pain, but would you rather live in a system that leaves Millions out, hence the shorter wait time? And two tiered sounds good on paper, but if we don't currently have enough surgeons to cover everyone for elective procedures in very short times, then cherry picking them away to serve only those that can afford them would be far worse.

The problem right now is those surgeons that use to see many patients within the public system, only will now serve the richer few. It came from the U.S.P.S. just before a decision was made to go to a socialsecurity system, employs started shooting, the whole insurance program was placed in private company hands, and like I said still that one or two hour wait. Canadian healthcare is a joke. My dad is 50 and needed knee surgery to repair torn cartilage a couple months ago. He was put on a waiting list 6-8 months long. So in Canada's "awesome" system the best my dad can get is an 8 month wait where he is in pain every day and can't even sleep at night. He went to a doctor in Cleveland and for $10,000 got the surgery done 4 days later. Thank God for America's private medical system or else my old man would still be in pain.

My dad lives in Southern Ontario (Brantford specifically), but he contacted all the hospitals in the area such as London, Toronto, Hamilton, etc. And my dad has pretty good connections since he donates lots of money to the Brantford hospital and has served on the board of directors. I know America's system favours the wealthy but at least you can get surgery done quickly and don't have to pray for fast waiting times.

For total knee replacement surgery, again, Branford is showing the lowest at 45 days. If your dad served on the board then he would know what key ortho's to contact and see who would have the shortest wait time.
Many Americans have to pray they don't get a serious disease as they couldn't afford the treatment.

And yes, 41 days can seem long when in pain, but would you rather live in a system that leaves Millions out, hence the shorter wait time? And two tiered sounds good on paper, but if we don't currently have enough surgeons to cover everyone for elective procedures in very short times, then cherry picking them away to serve only those that can afford them would be far worse.

For knee surgery, you aren't going to die waiting, but do you really want the guy that can pay go ahead of you for heart surgery if your case is worse?
