he just couldn't reach that note the first time. When you record the vocals and you have to make notes that are at the edge of your range, you sing that note a couple of times until your vocal chords are warm/stretched for that range, and THEN you can make it. He got lucky the second time + he's a pro so he could make it. Other singers can't without warming their voice (to that level)
