  • Would anybody be so nice to send me the lyrics in English (or German)? I'd be VERY pleased and thankful. :)

  • In norway we say that danes sounds like a drunk man with whole potato in his mouth

  • @natoroja Hahaha nice one.. Even though i'm Dane:p but we call you guys "fjeldaber"

  • det danmarks ældste sang

  • traditional instruments still sound better than most modern synth sounds but thats just me :) amazing song!

  • The oldest song in DK - written with runes and notes in a medieval lawbook. Only the 2 first lines are original - the rest is newly written (not by Valravn though) in order to make a "whole" song out of it.

  • @vanefreja86 bare en lille tilføjelse det er Skånske lov der er tale om... just for infomation to who it may concern its Skånske law that there are spoken about

  • The singer sounds like Bjork.

  • @Einheri89

    Good job quoting the Gutasaga.

By the way Old Gutnish isn't the same as old danish.

    Nice try though.

  • The Faroe islands sure got some good voices, she's not the first i heard:P

  • @Buorin Aren't they Danish? cx

  • @ConlangFan The band is Danish, but the singer is from the Faroe islands.

  • @Einheri89 There is almost no diffrence. .

  • She reminds me of Björk, but a more laid back version.

Samme gælder for sprog.

  • @Einheri89 I'll let you know that Norrönt Mál was known as Dónsk Tunga in the rest of the world at the time and leave it at that.

  • beauty

  • Færøske lyder bedre end danske...

  • @bluemechin

    Uden tvivl...

  • @itsjustameme :-)

  • they're so amazing, i love them ... but the memories associated with this band making me sad..

  • Tåre i øje rammer plet

  • I just say: Sorten Muld :-) But this is also pretty good :-)

  • @ToHaveAndToHold sorten muld make the songs in danish and sadly not old nordish like Valravn does

  • @Earthrush Sadly? Also, Valravn sings in Danish and Faroese though Faroese is prevalent, not Old Norse.

  • Mafijoe, they just visited my school yesterday, at Mellerup efterskole Denmark, it was awesome. I've never had a musical experience like that!

  • saw them at my school today, quite epic :D

  • Nice fucking song....

  • This is the oldest known Danish song. The notes and the text were found in a script from app. 1250. The text goes "I dreamt a dream last night about silk and honest measure". The exact meaning is unclear. Either it is merely expressing a wish of wealth or it is also expressing a wish of justice. Given the fact that the song was written in a collection of laws - 'Skånske lov' - makes the latter more plausible.

  • @nisgel I believe I've heard something similar about Frisian (a language the people in the northern area of Holland speak). They had to speak in court, but they had to memorize their speeches, so they had to make them easy and memorizable. They put a lot of poetry in it to make it easier to remember and let their speeches stick better with the jury. For example: they said "as long as the wind moves te clouds", or something along those lines, which meant "forever".

  • If I am not mistaken, the text is written in runes...

  • @victor190779 You are not mistaken. Even though the Latin alphabet was known and used by the Danes at the time, this particular book, the Codex Runicus, was written in runic letter as the name suggests.

  • i love them!

  • fallegur

  • er hun snakker norsk eller icelandisk? min norsk er ikke godt. this is very beautiful.

  • cool

  • sexy

  • DR's gamle pausesignal

  • OMG this is amazingly pretty. It is just eerie and you can feel it when you hear it.

  • I recall a past life now, sitting in a great wooden hall, with a horn of Mead in my hand..My brothers around me smiling and laughing. tomorrow we venture to batle and the maidens sing their songs for us before we before we venture into the halls of Valhalla

  • Can anyone give me the lyrics? Please! (:

  • @Mejichiro

Danish is below - or just use google.

A translation goes something like this (if you are in fact Danish, then maybe someone else can use it):

I Dreamt a dream last night

about silk and honest [rightfully mine] clothing,

carried an outfit so light and smooth

in the tremendous [or immense] shine of the sunlight

    - the bright morning is waking.

  • @NorthernRealmJackal the rest: To the heap of the young ones I walked. I travelled towards the singing and dancing. Comfortingly I met his eyes. And laid my hand in his. - the bright morning is waking. Everybody looked at us, they smiled and they laughed. Soon the dance completely stopped, Only the two of us danced. I Dreamt a dream last night... (etc.)
  • @NorthernRealmJackal

It is actually selected verses from the much longer original Danish folk-song (it's the oldest song know in Denmark, possibly in the entire world - don't know about that) - it was written down in runes. It's more than 700 years old. I'll post a quick translation..

  • @NorthernRealmJackal

    Thank you. So much.

  • simply beautiful...what a voice

  • this was actually the first song EVER written on danish.

  • anyone have lyrics?

  • Here you are:

"Drømte mig en drøm i nat

    om silke og ærlig pæl,

bar en dragt så let og glat

    i solfaldets strålevæld

  • i love it and it is not only dansih i mean she comes from iceland and i love them

  • hon kemur frá Føroyum!!!

oh, excuse me, she comes from the Faroe islands.

  • This is the oldest Danish song ever discovered..The lyrics have been carved in runes on a budstikke (a message carved in wooden sticks) found in in a escavation in Denmark dating back to the 800!!..pretty damn cool in my mind!!..
