THIN LIZZY ARE GODS....and i am GLAD they arent in the SHIT AND ROLL HALL OF FAME....because they cant be BOUGHT by JAN WENNER and his LITTLE CUNTRY CLUB
@Deetroiter good f'in question ...i guess the same reason why Rush and Yes arent either...TOO GOOD ...I mean the idiots put the Sex Pistols in..no offense but 1 album and half a tour doesnt equate
One of their best songs. Lynott really hit the nail on the head here. Im no addict ( God help em) but,,this can mean somethin else to some people. Myself included. ♥Peace & love and blessings & thank you for posting this. Its been a long time.....xx
I always thought he said 'just a small guitar injection' right before the solo. In the version from the Peele program that's definitely what he said. sbyrne1 can you let me know where you got these lyrics? I just listened to the studio version and it sounds like he could be saying striped, but I'm almost certain it's injection.
Don't really think he was in to hard drugs in 1975,from what i have be reading; All and all its a great song and i love the man!R.I.P Philip Lynott! One of a kind that will never be forgotten!!!Just a Gem!!!!!So glad i got to see you! Your music will live on forever!
if that fucking oringe prick simon cowl new a ennything about real music bands like thinlizzy would be the ones in the charts, not the plastic beber freekshoe's that pass as musisans today
@bartman5347 I can see where you might think that - it could be interpreted that way. But I seriously doubt that Phil would write a song with the reference to the Virgin Mary, associating it with heroin. He was very religious - as many of his friends testified in a lot of documentaries. It may have been subconcious, but it cannot be put down to heroin directly. The 'falling down' is about drugs possibly, but the song is spiritual.
@bartman5347 you are correct when you say that and i doubt if the following lines from the song can be interpreted any other way..."Who's going to help you, Especially when you are sick, Loving Mary, I need you quick". I think to interpret these lines in any other way is being naive to say the least. There is more like.."Who's got the junk" and so on..
@thundertower i was digging through my dad's old vinyl collection and found Bad Reputation, the lp was missing ! I put up the cover on my wall, proud of it to see Philo Looking at me with downey and scott :)
This band never got its just desserts. Only the true rock and roll afficianados realize what a talented group of musicians this was. One of the best bands of all time in my opinion.
@SaucyJack64 He was a Big Little Feet fan...."Critic for Allmusic John Dougan has written that "As the band's creative force, Lynott was a more insightful and intelligent writer than many of his ilk, preferring slice-of-life working-class dramas of love and hate influenced......
@SaucyJack64 ...by Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, Bruce Springsteen, and virtually all of the Irish literary tradition."[6] Van Morrison, Jeff Beck and Jimi Hendrix were major influences during the early days of the band,[7] and later influences included American artists Little Feat and Bob Seger.[8]" Ref:Wiki
@xshred420 Fortunately, I was born in the late 60s--so I was able to grow up with bands like this and know what good music is vs. the garbage that's out today. Keep Rockin'!
one of the best songs ever. the solo just sings like a bird on a early mourning.but thin lizzy always had great guitarist all the time. i think scott on this track he was like 17 when he joined phil, great player, and phill ob new this. he got the job. bell was great to. so they have had alot of great muscians.peace
So i'm guessing, by other peoples comments, that 'Mary' is The Virgin Mary? and Phil reckons she's gona give him some smack when he's feeling down?...
I think what phil is saying is that SHE KNOWS the pain and the addiction he has and that SHE CANT DO A THING because he is in sin &SHE GIVES HER EVERYTHING as far as love and compassion.
I see, very nice. Cheers for explaining. I'm usually good at understand metaphors and double meanings in songs but i just couldn't figure it out for this one
No shit, I miss this band so much. I would love to see a tribute band some day. I was lucky enough to see them at the Agora Ballroom in Houston Texas in the 80s and they were 10 feet from me. Rock on.

@sbyrne1 Check the lyrics, amigo:
Who’s got the junk when you’re feeling low down?
Who’s gonna give when there’s none to go around?
Who’s gonna help you when you feel you’ve had enough?
Mother Mary, this time it’s rough
And notice at 2:47 how he introduces the guitar solo: "Just a slight guitar injection."
The song is about heroin addiction. He's saying, "Mother Mary, please help me."

@sbyrne1 he was religious was so what? he died of multiple organ failure. "junk" is another term for heroin.

@sbyrne1 LOLWUT? have you looked up the lyrics to holy war?

@bartman5347 I don't think Phil was into heroin that early. I'm pretty sure he started around 77 or later.

@bartman5347 This song came out b4 phil developed a herion problem, but I do agree that this could be used as a refrence to heroin.
