  • If you were to conduct a study where you have two groups of drummers (one that watches the video, and one that skips the talking) that have no prior experience with linear funk, which group would you bet on to do better? This dude is trying to help people not only to know their stuff, but to UNDERSTAND it. If you don't like it, gtfo.

  • @metalfan9151 Thanks very much for your support! Greatly appreciated!

  • He looks like Angel Batista!

  • good rhythm and good vibes man! congrats.

  • ฟังไม่รู้เริ่อง

  • ( First of all, sorry about my English...) Great, great...GREAT teacher ( and player, of course!!). Your explanations are absolutely necessary. They ( 8mathdaddy, ben2nd) are the ones that don't want to learn, 'cos they may think they know everything. ben2nd is even chauvinist! ( what the fuck means "talk more than a chick"?) In case they're drummers, they should sell the drumsets and buy a Roland, or even better, go back to the trees they hung off...

  • great job perhaps a lesson of moellar. tech as well?

  • hey man been playing over 25 years have studied out of future sound and li.ear grooves think you did a great job of explaining the pattern and breaking it up around the drums s

  • Great vid man! really help me with my funk drumming

  • Excellent lesson. You actualy teach people something. The people who have dogged on it should have just looked at the length before they clicked on it. Clearly, they wanted to be entertained by watching somebody else do something and not LEARNING anything. There are plenty of alleged "lessons" out there that are nothing more that somebody trying to show off what they can do and calling a lesson that actually teach you nothing more than how big their ego is. GREAT JOB!

  • If you don't like the video, go watch another one you Twizzler dick motherfuckers. God it's Youtube. It's not like you paid for this lesson.

  • @TheDustyspears Thanks man!! I obviously understand that a lot of people don't want to hear in depth explanation. They just want to hear playing. But that is not what some of my videos are about! Once they realize it is not something they want to watch....I agree with you....just move on!! I also appreciate constructive criticism but when people leave ridiculous comments....no time for it!! Thanks for your comment, it is much appreciated!!

  • @funky2714 Yeah man, you hit the nail on the head. Youtube has too many videos of drummers just blazing through something and only saying a couple of things about it. For once somebody chooses to explain it in depth, and they're pissed 'cuz they gotta waste a few minutes of their boring lives.

People forget that if they wanted to learn this stuff from a pro, they'd have to pay hundreds of bucks to take classes and spend hours a day learning it.

  • @TheDustyspears Thanks again man!!

  • Fuck everyone that says this guy talks to much. Seriously, he knows what hes doing

  • @whymebean Thanks for your support man! GREATLY APPRECIATED!!

  • Please could u let me know if this is correct for the accents, ( Higher case letters for accented notes lower case ghost notes K = kick drum ) R l l R L R R l r l R l l K KK

Is this correct? The only note that is not linear is the first one with the right hand and kick falling on the same note? hope you understand my interpritation :)

  • O.k great video you clearly are a great drummer and teacher. Although the entire beat is not explained so I was trying to work out where all the accentded beats were and where the bass drum kicks are added from the video. So far I figured this much out, ( Higher case letters for Accented notes) R l l R l R R l r l R l l. Do you use any accents on the left hand or have I got this correct? Any help much obliged Jim.

  • dude you talk so fucking much! your a good drummer and good teacher,,,,but damn you go on for ages!!

  • @ben2nd Thanks for your input Ben! It is greatly appreciated! I will consider that when I do my future videos. By the way...you do know there is a "Stop" button right?? Also, you can take that little "slider" and advance anywhere in the video. You really didn't HAVE to listen to all of the talking. Just sayin....

  • @funky2714 Please excuse my bad language btw, I have a terrible habit of swearing for no reason so i apologize. Yeah the slider thing works but the thing is, i dont wanna miss out anything important if ya get what im sayin. What I suggest is do a video on how to do accents and ghost notes etc seperate to the acctual groove video coz then it makes it easier for people to find what they are looking for, just saying tho man

  • @funky2714, amazing how people don't want to SHUT UP, LISTEN and LEARN SOMETHING. You're the teacher, and they're trying to tell YOU how to teach.

    What arrogance...

  • @ben2nd Dude. I totally agree. One time I posted a message about him talking so much and he got mad. Dude talks more than a chick.

  • @8mathdaddy I will say it again. Playing drums is WAY more than just "HITTING DRUMS" As a teacher of the instrument, I would be doing anyone who really wishes to learn the finer points of playing drums a disservice by not thoroughly explaining them. It is apparent that YOU are NOT interested in learning the finer points and approaches. AGAIN, FORWARD THROUGH THE TALK and go right to the playing if you are not interested. OTHERWISE, GO ELSEWHERE TO LEARN rather than leave mindless commentary.

  • @funky2714 Hey Talkafunka, everyone on here thinks you talk too much. Why are you in denial? Dude, you can explain within a minute. You spoke for 29 minutes and then played for 1 minute. No one wants to hear you talk for that long. We don't even want to listen to Obama talk for that long. Just play the damn drums and shut the hell up.

  • @8mathdaddy ENOUGH now. This video has over 100k views, 339 likes 27 dislikes. What makes you think that I would give your commentary ANY consideration? AGAIN, if you like it, WATCH IT, if you don't, MOVE ON. Be SMART enough to FORWARD through the talk right to the playing! Nobody is holding a gun to your head to watch this OR any of my other videos. Do what you have to do to avoid my vids at all costs! I WILL NOT miss you! I understand I will not please everyone. That is a given. MOVE ON.

  • I think Gary Chaffee's Linear time Playing useful too

  • LINEAR EQUATIONS LOL

  • great job man. Some wise commentary

  • damn man your good! and you know what your doing which is helpful. this is a helpful video. let the people that hate your talking hate. because yeah you talk and you explain it and your interpretation. good video! keep it up! let the haters hate!

  • damn man your good! and you know what your doing which is helpful. this is a helpful video. let the people that hate your talking hate. because yeah you talk and you explain it and your interpretation. good video! keep it up! let the haters hate!

  • This is one of the best instructional videos posted to Youtube (that wasn't ripped from an instructional dvd). I'm not a novice by any stretch but am a life long student of the drums as any drummer should be and even though I already this material I couldn't NOT watch the whole vid. Very well done sir, and when you are talking about keeping the fills in the pocket...you are preaching the gospel. I will send this link to every up and comer I know.

  • to slow teaching boring

  • Hey Fran

If you don't mind me asking.....How often do you change drumheads?I'm sure much depends on how hard and often they're hit but,in general?

I'm a horrible tuner BTW.I understand the tuning concept but don't have good ears for pitch.

Also dig your style and groove greatly.

    Thank you.

  • This is a very mature, giving lesson.

If you're wise, you'll take heed.

Really. It's where the smart money is.

    Merci.

  • On the topic of keeping the fills relevant to the groove, I always demonstrate the idea to my young students by playing some really relaxed jazz time till they zone out, and then I do a crazy fill that has nothing to do with anything (including music) and then go back to the time....they always giggle. Then I play like a 180 bpm punk beat riding on the crash, and then I do a totally sparse down-tempo neo-soul/funk sorta fill....haha...cracks them up.

  • hey man, nice playing....

I've had a copy of future sounds for almost as long as I've been playing and I have a hard time sticking to such a cerebral approach. I really find that a teeny bit of practice at this stuff made a world of difference to my playing. I'm a pretty new drummer, but I got called to fill in with a band that had a PRO horn section, and these guys did What Is Hip? And HOLY CRAP am I ever glad I had a bit of this stuff under my belt.

    Nice pocket!

  • such a legend of a drummer

  • When all is said and done, Dave Garibaldi will go down as one of the most influential drummers in the world. Linear funk has been popular for a LONG LONG time now and Garibaldi is a drummer that played a huge part in that. It seems that it is even getting more popular now. Again thanks to Garibaldi!! He truly is a legend and beyond!!

  • Mapex M Birch or Pro M? I have the M Birch.... beautiful....

great drumming by the way, the guy who commented below this is a dick

  • Thanks so much for the compliment my friend!! Greatly appreciated!! I tried not to say anything too negative to the gentleman below. I knew I didn't have to. I knew that his comments would shine a spotlight on exactly what he is and that it would only be a matter of time for someone to give their opinion on what they thought that was. Your opinion is officially on record!! I can't wait to see the future opinions!! Thanks again!

    -Fran

  • My only other comment is: have you tried tightening your snare, or do you have a smaller snare? I find that a really tight snare with a bit of ring (only a little bit) works brilliantly with linear funk patterns, but that's just my opinion

  • I have quite a few snares. You should check out the snare in my 3 most recent vids. It is a black panther 12x7. It sounds like what you would prefer for this style. I actually prefer the larger diameter more shallow snares sometimes for linear stuff. I find they are more sensitive and accomodate the ghost strokes better. But I see your point. The tighter higher pitched sound is great for the accented strokes and sounds GREAT in linear funk and hip hop styles as well.

  • Now it's 253...great lesson Jobin!!!

  • @DrummaMan75 Jobin!!!

  • @DrummaMan75 Jobin!!!

  • Look at the other comments and learn to take a hint bro, you're boring.

  • Hey "bro", did you take a look at the other comments? There are 244 of them. The majority of which are complimentary. There are a handful that ask for more playing and less talking. I take that as a compliment on my playing. Send me some of your vids so I can get a better understanding of how it is supposed to be done.

  • Make it 251 of them.....

  • play drums or GTFO

  • Most people actually like the in depth explanation. They get a better understanding of the material being presented. If ADD is an issue for you, I can understand your need to comment adversely. I have great sympathy for people cursed with that affliction. If you happen to be one of those people, my videos are NOT for you. They are VERY detailed. If you are NOT one of those people, I take it you will not be watching any more of my instructional videos which is TOTALLY ok with me.

  • @funky2714

I disagree about most people liking the talk....there are so many styles and depths of teaching and learning, that you'd have to make thousands of videos, on only one topic, to make everyone happy.

    Appreciate the efforts.

  • Its definitely a good video. I wouldn't say there's too much talking, I would say there's not enough playing! haha

  • will be working harder at this now that I know what ive been learining! I didnt even know this was linear and I was doin simple linear grooves for a few weeks hahaha

  • I'ts the most simple true man...

    I'm your fan since now

    thks

  • the fill part helped alot

  • Great stuff...............

  • fill grooving hmmm thanx man

  • your kid sounds so soft man thats crazy in a video i love to hear your kit man

  • Very good drumming skills, too much talk though.

  • so much talk!

  • ...which if you're a serious musician you should be grateful for.

  • i got the future sounds book and i can`t tell ya what that means to me.ty sooo much fran

  • nice one man this encourage me to go downstairs and try playing along to some TOP on my drums and it was the nuts! i think im gonna become a total funk convert now thats the most fun ive had playing since ever,

    cheers! XD

  • Nice groove man.. sounds good

  • thanks !!!!

  • woua kool

  • Beautiful and incredibly concise!

Might not be your thing, but applied to metal this sounds beautiful, much like how Chris Pennie played with The Dillinger Escape Plan. Have recommended your videos to our drummer and he has learned so much!

  • what kind of sticks do u use? like your style i love funk drumming!:-)

  • It's very instructive

  • I appreciate you taking the time to make this video. Got to love tube no more paying deadbeat drum teachers. If I had a teacher who took the time to explain theory behind what your playing probaly would have never stopped lessons. Keep up the good work. Any tips on tuning tom toms. Thanks

  • Can you post link to the sheet music? impossible to really see it on the video.

  • wow that was one of the most well done comprehensive lessons condensed into 25 mins that I've ever seen, really awesome stuff man. I'm a drummer and I generally play this style and you broke it down so well.

  • Thanks so much my friend. I really appreciate it!

  • your right its so smooth

  • "very minimally the notes overlap"... doesnt that mean its not linear?? What does dynamics/ghost notes have to do with linear playing? Im going to have to study up on this more.. thanks for the lesson

  • Gotta love people man!! 2 notes overlapping on beat one are not enough to give a groove its character. If I just played ONLY those notes on beat one and said what type of groove is that, could you answer? If I played the rest of the groove and asked that question, the answer is obvious. Dynamics and ghosts have EVERYTHING to do with ALL styles. While they dont define a particular style, they should be mentioned in any groove lesson as they are what make a groove GROOVE!!

  • Keep your socks on dude.. expect people to question things if your gonna post things on you tube..its part of the game

  • Socks are always on my brutha!! But if you are gonna post comments on YouTube without much thought behind them, expect people to reply. There is a "reply" link AS WELL AS a "post a comment link" ... its part of the game!

  • Ok Mission, I feel I need to apologize to you. Understand that recently people have been commenting on this lesson talking about everything from race to scrutiny of the notation. I thought your comment was coming from a place of argument as opposed to asking the questions simply to learn from the answers. I realize now your intention was not to argue but to learn. I apologize. I would have called me the same thing you did had I gotten an answer like that to a non-confrontational question.

  • Its cool, no sweat at all! I was honestly just asking questions, not being malicious. I agree with you on all the points you have said.. just confused as other people say its very Black & white with linear playing.. no notes together. Its doesnt really matter does it.. thanks for the lesson it WAS very helpful actually! take care

  • i hate to tell you this but you wrote the music wrong. its not the same as what you are playing.

  • I do not include the kick drum in the groove at all when giving examples of adding accents within the hand pattern. For that part of the lesson, the kick is irrelevent. I replace the kick on the last 16th of the 4th beat with a ghosted snare just to keep the pattern fluid. When the groove is played in its entirety, it is exactly as written. Kudos to you for being so observant while watching the lesson!

  • do i spy a gretsch caalina ash kit?...

  • No you do not!!!

  • Priceless...

  • sounds FUNKY!!!

great job, thx for your lesson xD

  • Great man Im white from the south. I love playn too. Clyde Stubblefield is from my home town Love Clyde he is an influence an inspiration. So R U. Just play man screw the yappy race crap Do a whole segment on just your playn ideas . GOOD Teaching do more of YOUR stuff and am into Frank Beards tasty stuff for the rock linear beats He is coming from Gary Chaffee maybe WHAT do YOU think? I want to talk music not deal with peoples moronica. U got a lot to say my friend. Play it and I will learn

  • hahaha "thats a groover huh!" , your really good at teaching

  • hey fran from a player who prides on make his lessons to students easy and comprehensive( love to use the "no magic" and "mileage" terms myself),soulful and of groove importance, cherrs man. this was very cool to listen to your explanation. time to go hit em dave g style. cheers bro!

  • Great job! this will help me out with my students. Keep up the great work.

  • good stuff

I'm glad I found your videos

I'll keep checking back and learning

    thank you so much

  • do you need a good "in the pocket" bassist :) lol

  • Maaaaaaaaaaaaan i LOVEE the way your drum Sounds

    like heaven dude

beatiful.. you should just play and not explain

    haha kidin

    great drum sound

  • Thanks for the response. And yes, I know Mr. Garbaldi is an Italian Caucasian. We are now getting beyond the point. This is about drumming - and you sound very good. I hope your lessons help those who are searching for assistance. Hopefully, we can all grow by playing the kit.

  • Yes, I agree. It IS about drumming. However, my reply is VERY MUCH on point with your comment because you were suggesting that somehow, ethnicity comes into play regarding this lesson on linear funk. I felt I at least owed you an opinion on that subject. I do appreciate your views however, and thank you so much for the compliments and kind words. All the best to you!!

  • Hello Fran, I owe you an apology. I guess wood shedding and having a knowledge that most drummer's today don't have can make a person cynical. I understand what you are doing with the alternating beats, along with the different dimensions of the accenting certain notes - along with playing a steady funky beat. You are doing a good thing. I wish you well in your endeavors. Keep the beat alive. Peace.

  • No apology necessary. I run into this a lot on YouTube. People sometimes forget that players of ALL levels come on here to try to learn something. If they have already covered the material I am presenting in their studies, they tend to want to make that known. Kudos to you if you are beyond this lesson and you have already mastered the concepts I present here. I just try to post lessons that are useful to as many levels of drummers as possible. I realize some are beyond the lessons I post.

  • No disrespect intended. The linear style your are referring to is typical of most "Black" drummers in the South (depending on the song). Go to any church and you hear funky kids playing in the manner. They don't make big deal about it because it's all part of being funky. Mr. Garibaldi is funky - but ask him who influenced him. One name may come up: Mr. James Gadson. Mr. Gadson played this way on plenty of recordings.

  • No disrespect taken. Yes, some feel it naturally based on what they have been exposed to musically. But a lot of players dont. If you happen to not be "Black" and in the South, as you put it, and attend a church that has a gospel band , what then? Dave Garibaldi wrote many books on learning this style so I doubt that playing this style is just a matter of being funky or not being funky. Should you not attempt learning samba if you are not from Brazil? Garibaldi is white and Italian, he does ok.

  • They obviously make a big deal about it because they're playing shows it. Doesn't matter what you call it, it's still important. What does Garibaldi's influences have to do with anything? Who cares if it's called linear drumming, or if you just want to refer to it as ghost notes, or accents. Point is Fran gave an important lesson which many people interested in that style can learn from. Your comments are beyond absurd...

  • Am I crazy or is this guy simply talking about "ghost notes and accent notes?

  • So that is all you got out of this?? I don't think it is a question of you being crazy. Just a question of you being able to go beyond being superficial. Linear funk is a complete style with a particular feel that involves a solid approach to make it groove. Sometimes it may be convenient for you to take something that is not easily understood and convince yourself it is something superficial just to feel better about yourself. I wouldn't do that if your goal is to become a better player.

  • I am sooo glad I found this video.. Subscribed and very much inspired thank you very much!!!

  • a really informative, good techead and long lesson! 5 stars!

  • loved the clip dude...great teaching, LOVELY grooving, plenty of detail, and best of all, totally natural and informal delivery. loved the section on adapting the groove for fills!

i'll have to check out garibaldis system if your lesson is anything to go by.

seriously - HUGE thanks! loved it :)

  • haha my names jon merante.. any relation?

  • hell yea funk drumming is my favorite...it gives you a chance to show off your groove techniques

  • My GOD Your kit sounds incredible. I wish mine sounded half as decent as that

  • You are awesome!

  • Great sound and a great lesson!

  • i dont like traditional grip either but for some it works well. dave weckl is real powerful with the traditional grip.

  • yeah that drums sound fckn sweet

  • I like the idea of playing the whole thing unaccented in the early stages of learning a groove. I used to do exactly the opposite, namely "smashing things" and then go back and learn the ghostnotes.

  • What heads are you using? resonant too please

  • Remo clear ambassadors top and bottom.

  • I LOVE the way your drums sound! Wow!!!

  • The only problem I have is that asserting that a "groove" is limited to notes that are static as far as volume. The counter-example to this is some (decent) electronic music where all the notes have the same volume, yet still (to me) have a groove. I think that the concept of "groove" just needs clarification with regard to variation or non-variation of volume across each note. Thank you for the lesson. Well explained, and helpful.

  • Although your point is a valid one, this lesson posting is on "linear funk drumming" and as such, all concepts and approaches mentioned apply to that particular style. So when I mention what makes the example "groove", the approach is directed at the style being taught. To make anything you play "groove" you first have to consider the style and then play accordingly. This is my approach to a "groove" in the style of linear funk.

  • this is the best funk drum lesson iv seen on youtube

  • only grandpas play traditional grip.

  • yeah right...tell that to vinnie, gadd, weck et al...(if you know what that means)... open you mind and play them both.

  • To be perfectly fair, Vinnie and Gadd could easily be grandpas. ;)

  • You Should Be Able To Use Both, The Best Drummers Are Open-Minded. Traditional Makes Ghost Notes So Much Easier (Notes without emphasis fyi) :P

  • great teacher

  • Long, but, I like this - well done. Never though of linear applied to drumming.

  • A great drummer but this could be a 5 minute video with the same content.

  • If you are one that just watches these vids for the playing...then yeah could be covered in 5 minutes.....Remember just because you watch football every Sunday doesn't mean you know how to play. Playing an instrument from the standpoint of playing for the music and not from the standpoint of playing for yourself takes more than just watching and copying....it is a frame of mind that breeds an approach....this can only be explained and not merely observed but thanks for the comment.

  • OWNED!

  • agreed. YouTube isn't like the matrix where you can inject this in your brain and within minutes you'll know it...There's lots of theory that goes into it, and even if it's redundant sometimes, it is necessary. Great lesson, man!

  • very insightful comment. you are totally correct

  • genius.

  • everything has been said to this video. exellent teaching, for me one of the best teaching styles i've ever seen! great! 5 stars

  • Thanks a lot fran...the problem with me is that i dont have enough control to control those ghost notes :( i tend to play them loud!!

  • if-if you were to connect the dots, you'd get a very wavy line......

it's not that hard to explain!

  • this tells it all.. and playing funk will also reduce the chance of breaking a drum skin or even a crash cymbal.. unlike playing rock/metal you'll surely gonna bust your drums.. i like funk.. but im pretty much fond of playing jazz

  • how did you do 26 min video on you tube

  • Where did you get that sick K poster in the background?

  • EXCELLENT!

  • absolutely excellent video. the part about incorporating each accent into the groove one at a time while starting with no accents is VERY helpful to me!

  • Good job Fran, You are a great teacher!

  • He explains things so well

  • is there a way I can get the sheet musis for the beat and fill you played at 22:15? Please reply!

  • hey Im watching this right now, thank you for your efforts in explaining and give us your vision, thank you. I would like though top hear you play "Ebony Jam" just for the fun of it ::P:P:P - Thank you in advance

    Funk on duude!

  • Man, Fran,....I could watch this over and over and over again. You are a very good teacher but what I most got out of it was your communicating ability. I taught myself and have played for 17yrs but articulation has always been a weak spot. Thanks for sharing. I'll keep an eye out for ya. God bless.

  • I'm not even a drummer but just sat through that enthralled

  • your kit sounds beautiful, what is it?

  • thanks a lot.

  • Hello Fran..I've enjoyed your postings on here. I almost feel as if we're kindred spirits. Our styles are similar. I grew up on,& studied with David Garibaldi,so that whole "Oakland" thing is in my blood. Maybe we'll cross paths someday..I live just across the bay here on Long Island. Keep doing what you're doing,& don't get put off by the few negative comments that come around every so often. There's always the idiot that thinks that their way is the only way..keep up the good word, Dave

  • that was sick dude.. is that a supraphonic.. if it is what heads do you use? you are a GREAt drummer and where did you get the book?! THANKS

  • i'm glad i found your videos. before this, i had no idea that when i played this certain way that i was called linear drumming. now i know what it means. thanks man! you are a really good teacher.

  • that set sounds really good

  • great video with many great tips! keep making more

  • Great video!

  • No much patience in his tone when his is explaining, but it requires patience to listen to him...This video could be 10 mins long ad have the same information value...

  • If there wasn't patience on my part, the video would be 3 minutes long. I would show the groove, slow it down and then say, "have at it". When I take the time to explain in detail, it is a testament to how I teach for ALL levels of playing so ALL can understand. If this lesson is beneath you, fine. But please dont be so selfish by suggesting I should tailor my lessons to only satisfy players of your caliber. The subtleties and nuances must be explained to capture the true essence of linear funk.

  • The lesson is way way above my learning but still gave a valuable insight, thanks.

  • Thank you very much, this video was very helpful. I have been playing this linear groove (Chroma Key - Undertow) by Mark Zonder for 3 years now and I just realised why it always sounds crappy when I do it.

Aside from the dynamics which I struggled to immitate I saw that you are playing very slow and relaxed in contrast to me.

I already understand it better now!

Thanks again!!! More talking vids pls!!!

  • Fran, what we have here in some of these comments are individuals who obviously don't understand how learning occurs and the theory behind learning. They just want their knowledge on a plate (as fast as they can) and they think they can get it without knowing certain subtlties about it. Consequently, their grooves sound like generic garbage, dynamically static. I've been an percussion clinician/educator for over 25 years. Anyone can copy, few can master the essence. Thanks for "talking" Fran!

  • great video man, you've inspired me a lot! Keep up the great work.

  • Awesome video, awesome groove. You're a good teacher. That's how you're supposed to teach. If some of these people would close their mouths and open their ears, they'd prolly learn something and benefit from your obvious knowledge of drumming. If you don't like the talking, go watch another video and keep sucking. This guy knows what he's talking about.

  • Enough with the play dont speak! People who learn by observing at times will examine their playing down the road and say, "I am playing all the notes but the goove is still not happening" This happens because somewhere a nuance or concept was missed.I like to help students avoid having this happen to them. That is why I am thorough in my lessons. I have plenty of videos up with playing only. For those who just want to be entertained and copy what they THINK is right, watch those!!

  • Yeah indeed, I did so a couple of times. I had to get back to the tutorials and really listen to what was expressed kind of. Good job mate!

  • Fran, I can't even believe you have to explain this! People are fucking stupid...

  • so many philosophers here:...

  • speak speak speak

    and drumming?

  • Oh my lordi....when will these guys learn that we don't care about all that talk bullcrap. Just play damit....Geeezz

  • As always, very good job. Thank you Mr Merante !

  • Thanx Mate that was great! Very clearly explaned go heaps outta it...thanx again :)

  • Good lesson, you explain things very clearly. :)

  • it's not the drumset as much as the mics

  • I must tell you, I did the live sound for Frans band Cubistic Jack for years, Fran's drums and kit was the best sounding kit with out mics that I ever heard....with mics live was amazing...the drums and kit were tuned perfectly every night...so FannyManMan don't talk about what you don't know about..

  • Thank you F!!!!

  • also for clarification - t.o.p. is a good band and has had great moments, but to call them the best funk band on the planet is a gross overstatement. James Brown, Parliament, Sly, Headhunters, the meters, Prince et al, D'angelo, many hip hop artists - I could go on and on. placing T.O.P. above or equal to those bands shows an academic view of funk music, which should be the opposite of academic when it's at it's best.

  • it is a common misconception that garibaldi playing is highly linear. in reality, it is far more "harmonic" or stacked than linear. there is usually lots of overlapping between hihat and snare in his grooves. gadd is a much better example of a liner funk drummer, where many of the patterns are constructed from permutations of paradiddles.

  • Dude-David G. recommends adding the accents the first time you learn it slow. There is no point to learning it twice.

  • Very Good
