Yeah, no lockers, no sand ladders, no pull pals, no beadlocks, etc. They should have bumped up the tire size to 35"s or so - the Patrol has wide wheel wells to accommodate them- in a more aggressive tread than BFG A/T's & had at least, LSD's front & rear. Obviously needed to drop tire pressures in the sand & rule of thumb - if the winch line is pulling, the tires need to be turning. At least they didn't opt for those rubbish Mitsubishis again.

@MrCagivaman @maximanttra @dhudson369 If you notice when they were crossing the border from Zambia to Botswana (Episode 6-3), David (the American) was wearing a rallye jacket and was on a bike which must have been the 650. I'm assuming either he continued to ride it once Eve left or they took turns riding it from then on.

With 7+ gallons capacity, those GS's give you some wiggle room between filling stations/points. I'd prefer a lighter bike, then add fuel storage for this but then you're dealing with chains, too. Tough choice.

The 650GS they used for their king of the hill segment was definitely the same bike Eve rode on. I'm making a guess that it was Dai who was riding it since he wasn't shown with the support vehicles that were stuck on the beach. Wonder if this was mentioned in the book.

@bipod11 No. Eve's bike was probably shipped to the crew.  Her BMW GS has no panniers (storage boxes) because she didn't carry luggage except a duffel bag. All the other bikes had them on. And with the money they spent on other considerations, shipping a bike to and from London was probably not that much .

I am betting on them following Palin's "Full Circle", or at least part of it. Maybe the Asian Pacific, or South to North america

WTH? Don't they know about reducing tire air-pressure to increase contact surface area floatation? Having a moderate-capacity 12-volt air-compressor along should be a major consideration when planning for desert, mud, river delta and beach sand environs, to reinflate tires after lowering pressure for difficult crossings. Kinda surprised that apparently wasn't planned for. It might have eliminated or reduced the severity of many 'stuck' situations. Well, at least it all worked out. Great trip! ~
