Why is it only in African American communities that this is happening? You can't blame this strictly on poverty, predominately white areas that are also poor do not suffer from high murder rates. I think this has something to do with the media's portal and reinforcement of urban youth violence being acceptable.

i currently live in a 3rd world country where there is far less of what these people have.. there is NO welfare, govt assistance, or even supermarkets. people here raise their families in bambo shacks with aluminum siding for roofs. And the funny thing is, THERE IS NO VIOLENCE HERE.. why is that?

Decades ago, when most Americans were equally poor there was less violence.Now there are ppl living in million+ $ mansions & just a few miles away are people living in squalor. Also Americans are very disconnected from each other, families live apart&don't help ea other, neighbors don't talk to ea other, etc.When ppl do talk it's via web sites like this.There's not enough direct contact&communication among ppl anymore,imho.

This is so beautiful.People have the courage to stand up against the guns. Its hard to grow up there, its not that there born that wa,y its the community and the environment that they were all brought up in, from the moment they enter school they learn that the way that they need to 'protect' themselves and to 'put people down' is by violence, and it started all the way back in history with black minorities being brought down by skin color, is disgusting how we have treated them. In the 1930s and 40s governmental programs were created that subsidized low-cost loans. The problem is nonwhites were locked out of homebuying just as many white Americans were getting in. As a result today segregated communities and a large wealth gap between whites and nonwhites exist.
