Some teacher at my school many years ago was told they had too much sodium in the school and they had to get rid of it about half of it which was literally a gigantic mound of it. He had no idea what it would do he decided to hose it down it blew out all the windows in the building behind him. The idiot.
if its 99.99% anhydrous NaOH it might, especially under pressure some sort of bottle; ja?? what i'm saying is the alkali metal is usually compromised w/ very little moisture rendering it thee caustic soda.
forgot to say... what if it were to rain? your teacher would be burned and that isnt good... just use extra safty with stuff like that i was burned myself once
your teacher is a bad influince because that is dangerous to use sodium when it had that much moister because the sodium could react to that and harm someone so i hope you dont be that stupid and please dont hurt yourself
that wasn't real anhyrdous Na+ it was aqueous NaOH... my friends teacher did it w/ the real shit & threw it into a pound on his hs campus; the shit shot up like 50' in the air
wow R5H4DOW not at all. sodium hydroxide wont kill anything in the lake at all. i just learned bout it in Honors Chemistry today so get ur facts strait.
Seriously. It always seems like there's that one kid who wants people to believe he's bored with everything because he's done some much cool stuff and that if they find ANYthing interesting then they're just dumb. Boo to that kid.
Put that stuff in a wine bottle, cork it, and toss it. Zombie apocalypse grenade ftw.

@YourNameHere136 he was hosing it down to hopefully let it all run off, but that was a mistake.

not anhydrous Na+.... that chemistry teachers flattering himself its NaOH
SymAmineC8H11N 2 years ago
NaOH doesnt react that way with water, its just a strong base...
The reaction shown here is:
2Na + 2H2O --> 2NaOH + H2
The heat of the reaction ignites the H2, causing the flames/boom.
