    I am a little confused by this example, however. I would expect the H nucleus in the hydroxyl functional group to be only poorly shielded, considering that it is sharing electrons with a highly electronegative oxygen atom. However, the peak is found right next to those of the relatively well shielded alkyl groups. Why?
