950 for baja 1000 and like 75 for year membership I think. But I think you have to be 16. And, the bike will be FAR from Stock. Expect to put some cash in to the machine. More importantly, is the maintance and assistance teams etc. And tires, fuel, parts, etc etc

You drive fast in a million+ dollar truck over tough terrain. I thought that was pretty self explanitory. :P (No, I dont race Baja)

But besides the obvoius... If with something like competitve mountain biking (Which I do), there are a million little things that make a big difference. I would guess the same mentality applies to Baja racing.

I would beleive only practice would answer your question. Start out small, then grow big. VW buggie class looks like a cheep place to start. Try there!
