As a native of SC I feel I also have a right to respond to this video. I have read where someone wrote "He's in love". To you I say big flipping deal! So were his wife and children! At the heart of Christianity is the message of forgiveness. But it's not the idea that I can do anything I want, pull out the "Jesus" card and go to heaven. Here's core message:

1. Sin is failing to keep God's laws.

2. All people fail to keep God's laws, they even fail to keep their own moral code.

3. Since all people have failed to keep God's laws and even their own moral code, they are subject to paying the fine for failure.

4. The fine for sin is death (eternal separation from God).

5. God loves us all and wants us to be with Him for eternity. However, God must keep his own laws, or he himself sins.

6. In order to give people the chance to be with Him throughout eternity, God needed someone to pay the fines we have earned. However, whoever pays the fines must be innocent of sin. Also, they must be able to pay for all people. And, that person must be human.

7. Only a being who is innocent, infinite and human can pay the price.

8. God made Mary (a virgin at the time) pregnant. Her son was named Jesus. Jesus is both man (because he is Mary's son) and God (because he is God's Son). He is also innocent, because he's never failed to keep God's laws. So Jesus fit's the requirements for paying the fines for all people.

9. Jesus demonstrated his humanity, his diety and his perfection through his ministry on earth for three and a half years. Then, the religious and civil leaders at the time put him to death on the cross.

10. God accepted the death of Jesus as payment for the fines earned by all people.

11. To prove Jesus really is God, he came back from the dead after spending three days in the tomb.

12. Now, God offers us the chance to accept his payment for our sins. If we accept his offer, all of our sins are forgiven, and God says he forgets them.

13. If we reject his offer, we must pay the fines ourselves.

14. Since we are still just people, we still sin, but his infinite payment covers all our sins.

The problem here, bmbirdsong, is that Sanford's idea of Christianity is that he is one of God's chosen people and as such, like the rest of the C-Street people he mentions, is above the laws and tenets of Christianity. In fact, they believe that if one of them rapes 3 little girls, it's okay because they are Jesus's chosen people. These people are NUTS, worse, because they are men of power. They believe Jesus wants them to be all powerful.

I have no knowledge of C-Street or what they may or may not believe. I'm not talking for them or apologizing for them. I will neither condone or condemn them without direct evidence of what they espouse. My post above was in answer to drgoodvibesxxx response. What I've outlined is basic Christian doctrine common to 90% of churches calling themselves Christian. The whole point is that God offers forgiveness for any sin, including adultery if a person is truly sorry and turns away from the sin.

God's love for us is so great, that He wants no one to suffer the eternal consequences of sin. But that doesn't mean that we get to participate in an ongoing sinful situation without losing His blessings and protections. Many Christian leaders have lost everything they held dear to them because they would not deal with sin in their own lives. That's why no mature Christian takes the view that they can sin and then ask forgiveness and then commit the same sin over and over without consequence.

You don't need to evoke God to praise morality. While religion may have been important to stablize society at one point, it's also been the cause of too much heartache and stifling of reason.

You are absolutely right. If I claim to know God's mind, I am being arrogant. But everything I've written here is contained in the Bible. These are not my ideas. And you're also right that blindly adhering to religion has been detrimental to many people in the world. This applies to all religions, not just to Christianity. In fact, Jesus himself spoke often against religious people who follow man's rituals and customs instead of pursuing a personal relationship with God through forgiveness.
