Yes that's true. But does your license have a list of allergies? Does it show that your body reacts best with certain medications? Or if you take anything? And what if you forget your wallet. Or loose it in the crapper if your wallets in your back pocket of some REALLY baggy pants? Generally your phone is in your front pocket. Yes there are alternatives, but at least this way its just an extra way to be careful.
