I apologies for my voice, I say time and time again that I'm not a singer but I find that not singing while I play takes some of the fun out of it. Also I can't really sing any higher, I have quite a deep voice anyway so I sometimes struggle with the higher songs.

Similar but not identical. Plenty of songs use the D,G progression and picking through the strings. Bruce Springsteen's Highway Patrolman is also a lot like it ;)

I'm not knocking you talent, or anything - you are a great musician and singer. But this applies to everyone, this is just one of those songs that cannot be covered!!! It is a classic, and no one can touch it!

I think all that matters (or it does to me) is if you can play and sing along to this sort of song - and I by no means claim to be any good - and enjoy it while you do. Music is for sharing and enjoying with everyone else. There are some dreadful covers of this song though... I mean, Ronan Keating, WTF was he thinking?? :D

This is a fucking brilliant cover! What I like the most about this acoustic cover, is the way in which you play first the slow part plucking the strings instead of playing the chords, and then the faster part you play it with the whole chords (sorry for my English musical vocabulary, but I guess you understand what I mean). Then you were cute at the time of deciding to whistle (that's the passage of the song in which the tin whistle prevails over the rest of the instruments).
