@frizzlefrap not sure what you mean either. I am far from a person who likes a song because it is top 40. Quite the opposite. Strawberry Alarmclock was a relatively obscure group outside of Insence and Peppermints. There was more to the group than one monster hit. I have no gripe with you since I may have misunderstood your comments as well.
stinky group wrecking a perfectly good old car ..... not funny .... just like their songs are in the horrible category ..... they missed the boat! ..... oooooooo .. oooooooo ...oooooooo .... too simple of refraining .... no imagination ..... except if your into drugs!
Totally agree with Ortley, man. On my third trip to Atlantic City, that was one of my destinations . . . anyway, I filled up the gas tank in my Mustang for less that $2.50 and did a round trip not meant for squares. That was in the Spring of 1969 and lofty times they were. STP was in my car for the Atlantic City Pop Festival. That was strangely cool. My friends had to physically drag me out of the Ocean. I was only hung up on the waves for five hours. . . wave after wave after wave.
I would rather have that car instead of the Toyota Prius. At leat the metal that is built on would protect from a car crash. I would rather be alive and pay more on gas than be dead from a Toyota Prius
Seems to be their attempt at making some kind of counter culture statement, and how better than to destroy a symbol of the wealthy- a Cadillac. Of course, like today, a lot of the hippie culture, psychedelic stuff in bands was pretty contrived.
'sorry, Zippy - when this was filmed, that Cadillac was a disposable second-hand car - not a gas-hog. Today, it's not a "clunker" (if maintained from new to this day, it would be on the road for decades after a new car has been crushed into a tiny cube of metal (which most of them ought to have remained in the first place - nasty insubstantial, cramped, mechanical products of some twisted idea that government regulations are written by engineers (ha, ha, ha- NOT).
@Planktontwo Your logic is hard to follow. Perhaps there isn't any. This song is fab. I guess you had to be there to enjoy this music. If you think because a song is a hit that it's awesome you should listen to todays hits. Perhaps you do. I don't.
Holy smokes... Count your blessings that MTV wasn't s=around to ruin great music in the sixties, too. Truly awful video for one of the most beautiful songs ever.
What memories. I had this playing on my 8 track in my El Camino at a desert race in CA. My Greeves Challenger was leaning on my pickup and I had a cold beer in my hand. Man I miss the 60's. This is a timeless classic and great music. Is that the beginning of the Glendale freeway? I went to Glendale High just over the hill from there.
for those that say it's a 'dumb video', keep in mind this is like 1967-68. realistically, the only video models they had were the beatles and monkees videos. hardly 'citizen kane' material.
hell, its a great song, and the video is a function of it's time. why can't you just appreciate it for the time piece it is?
Actually it's a 1958 Cadillac Park Avenue hardtop. If it was in the condition today that it was in before they trash it, it would be worth upwards of $20,000.
Actually in 1958 Cadillac built the Park Avenue (their lowest priced model that year), but GM held the rights to the name, and in 1975 they switched it to Buick.
What a marvellous statement is incorporated in this weird videoclip. Music that blows your mind combined with creative vandalism. Thanks for sharing this!
I knew this existed becasue I remember watching this video on Laugh In as a small boy! Tomorrow is my favorite Strawberry Alarm Clock! Thanks for this great post!

@cool2anyone ,
Tottally agree, a new car you could pull apart with your hands, that was a 1958 caddilac and you needed sledge hammers to at least crush this tank.

Song is great. What is wrong is what they are doing to that beautiful car which I guess was not thought to be beautiful in 1968.

Sunny Brit, you almost got it right! It's a 1958 Cadillac Fleetwood hardtop.
Park Avenue was actually a Buick model which didn't make its debut until 1975.
