@martineric1966 Depends on the model you have but not all of them have it. For mine it's in the mode option where you can select video, picture, or slow mo.

@nicoloopshame The frame rate on regular mode is 29.97 FPS fixed and on the SLW REC feature it's shot at 120 FPS fixed on to memory and then re-recorded onto the internal hard drive at 29.97 FPS effectively reducing the speed by 4 fold. The frame rate isn't adjustable.

you can record multiple slow-mo files on your camcorder before having to transfer them to your computer(pc). The drawback to slow-mo is the way that it is recorded. It records the slow-mo to RAM in the camera, when you tell it to save that it has to stretch it and trick the hard drive into thinking it's recording live video for 11 seconds. So it records 3 seconds, then re-records for 11 seconds, then you can record something else. so you must wait 12 seconds between shots.

does the refocusing problem only occur when its in auto focus, because i don't mind that. Hate auto focus. If you wanna focusing tip (sorry if you know already) when you have your shot set up, stick the camera on manual focus and zoom in as far as the camera can go on optical then focus it, then zoom out. Now everything between the camera and that object will be in focus and you can zoom all you want it wont go out. Nice video by the way, really wanna get one! :)

Does this camera have a firmware update or not?

I reading the same exact paragraph from multiple digital photo web sites that say it has a firmware update. But of course Sony America web site says nothing about it.

This is news to me, I've never heard about a firmware update before. Check the versions. If you already have it then don't worry about(obviously). If there is new firmware then I hope it fixes the focus problem.

The worst part is that digital cameras still

dont have firmware updates as other modern

machines (e.g. new gaming consoles).

oddly enough, if i turn it around and blow on lens it will focus. maybe there is crap on the lens but i don't know. oh yeah, this cam has a touch screen and if you hate fingerprints get ready to dish out another 100 for a cleaning kit.

I think I've heard about the focusing problem

again, and one of the mentioned trick solutions was to set the focusing to manual

(you can do it only in models SR11 and SR12)

So...give it a try...

Set the focus to manual and adjust the

focus by yourself before shooting a scene.

Tell me how that worked for you.

I have had to do that for a long time! here's the deal on that, if it is focusing close, far, close, far long enough an error will appear and it asks you to restart the camera. then it has to focus before it will turn on. and if it is in a focusing "fit", pushing manual and adjusting has no effect. you have to wait for it to focus and then you can manually adjust it.

I want to ask you something though because I am planning on buying that camera I want to know an unbias opinion of you as a consumer cause I dont trust the so called "reviews".. I want to ask you how much is the noise level apparent in a lit room indoors ?? Is the film grainy ?? or is it smooth like the 3 CCD proffesional cameras? I already have an older sony TCR-TRV120E (Digital8) and although is 0 lux nightshot it remains noisy even in a well lit enviroment.

GRR, darn youtube won't let me post. uhh. all right, the camera has a really bad focusing problem sometimes. it doubts itself and tries to refocus when it's fine. No grains unless its dark out. Grains are apparent in digital zoom. night shot is very low on grain, hard to see. Except for the almost Evil focusing problem it's a good all around camera.

both my sony hc7 &hc9 's have BLURRY TERRIBLE QUALITY smooth slow rec. for only a few seconds maximum. cant beleive how SHIT it is! researching the sd12 to see how bad it is in low light & 16mb/sec.

That is Standard. No mater what quality setting you set, it always seems like its a little less then HD LP Mode. I guess the camera wasn't built to take in that much information at one time. Oh well, still looks fine on youtube at least!

You mean 3 Seconds, Right? When you push REC, it records for 3 seconds, then shows you the footage while its writing it to the disk. You can't skip that step so you have to wait 11 seconds for the playback to end. Then you can either Slow-mo record again or go back to Regular Recording. Thanks for the question!

It would be nice. But to get that you would need a professional slow-mo camera. The 11 seconds is okay because you get to see what you got but it had it's drawl-backs. But it needs to do that to take the file from its ram to its HDD. Oh well.

When? If you meant with the ping-pong gun it's because of dan. His Heat lamps, my door always closed, and being on the top floor heat my room to a daily average of 82F. So yeah that was why.
