wings of prey has a lot of good graphics, land scenery is very good and runs well on modern pc. i still prefer il2 as a simulator ..wish tough they bring the same graphics of wings of prey to il2.

@ripmax333 The fact remains that Il-2 1946 is a game that is almost 10 years old. If you want top of the line graphics and simulation try Cliffs of Dover. They still need to work out some bugs but the same was the case in the origional Il-2.

@r2zibit I don't play anymore. The matches were never really easy to put together. I don't think there was a specific way to match up with friends. I don't completely remember though

I thought the the aircraft, the terrain and especially the sky looked very real. Simulating ocean waves is not easy so I think they have done a wonderful job with the graphics overall.

Swiveling around the external view to spot enemies is unrealistic and disorienting. Some people call it third person view, which makes sense if the third person is Superman examining the back of the pilots head. A Spitfire is easy to recognize, so a P-40 pilot firing at one is either incompetent or a traitor.

@StimuLAZ Hi, I haven't played this game in over a year...I loved it but its needed better server support. It was to hard to find a game after a while. As far as the external view to spot, that's not whats happening...Actually I flew in cockpit the whole game. The game has a replay mode and the movie is made from that. Those views are for cinematic effect. If you were watching a war movie or documentary, would you really only want to see from the cockpit or gun camera view :)??

@dredloc121 Actually I would like to see a documentary or movie from the perspective of a real person. With a simulator I haven't tried, it is nice to follow the action from the pilots perspective and get a feel for the view limitations in the cockpit. I often flew the P40 in WarBirds so I like to compare the details, especially the side view where a part of the cocpit frame covered more of the sky than the wing did. I suspect it was a fault in the 3D model or camera position, not the P40.

@bamboonigga12charlie I like them both, they represents different eras. The Spitfire is with the Germany, while the P 40s were also used as RAF but then used in the Pacific more.
