yeah most smaller rods will burn ok around 200 but if you gotta knock out some big welds you gotta get a big box. I've found that rods made for automatic carbon arc machines burn so much smoother than regular rods. haha i of course don't have any kind of box or rigs of my own. I'm a shiftitter that works on Submarines/Aircraft Carriers so I have equipment supplied by a company that makes a profit of 40 billion a year at my disposal. I generally gauge the bead size and burn rods accordingly

Carbon Arc are cool we have one at are school and its 600amps it shoots sparks 20 feet :)

Hi fovey This is max'ed out at 200 amps, but works well with 1/4" carbon. I have a larger unit for 3/8" carbon if needed.

magic my son ,i also use the rods for brazing
now and again ,i have a torch that holds 2 rods at at a preset angle the holder is like an insulated sissor so you touch them together
and bingo big ark, i run them of an old arc welder at 20 amps, had it since the 70s.
