I live in a old house like the ones at the begining of video, my house was built from wood that came from old sawmill in deweyville texas, its a solid house that functions great,my house is in a couple of videos of mine.
My mom's from New Orleans. Born in Mansoura. or however you spell it. My Mom's family settled a town called Moreausville. You know where that's at? Her maiden name is Moreau. I'm from and live in oregon.
This is interesting... being from Long Island, i can understand how people always think a bias. People assume I am in NYC - I am not. We have malls and stuff, yeah, but we also have wild deer, farms, and shit like that.
great video. entertaining and educational at the same time.
and i SO know what u meant with that skeleton key thing; i'm from malaysia, and any hollywood movies shot here, it's shot in a way that i wouldn't even recognize it to be malaysia lol. or it's always the, i guess, "bayou" parts of malaysia.
Being from the bayou, I laughed my ass off. I actually know the people that live in the 'haunted' house by HWY 90. They own that tugboat company in Lockport called TLC. They're fucking loaded.
I've been living in Raceland my whole 15 years of my life haha.Lorrel Valley.Went ride there a few weeks ago.Haha I so agree about the whole we're not just bayou.Haha when I march in parades in New Orleans they ask dumb questions like "do you go to school in boats?" It cracks me up.
Hehe I always wanted to go to that "haunted house."Nice Chiodos shirt.Haha and that chapel I so see it when we go trawling in Fourchon.I always wondered about it too.Why it's still there.Great video guys.
oh yeah I keep forgetting to telll you how fantastically perfect the musi is you have. On both vids for the Bayou Tour, just great! Your friends are alot of fun too, Nigel I love'em. I hope you guys are friends forever.
god damn it! next time y'all do some fun shit like this, and y'all don't call me to join in, I swear, i'll make my first video a ten minute clip of Nigel's mom's pussy tattoo...
I've been down to Thibodaux (my last name is Thibodeau =D). My mom was raised in Louisiana. She went to LSU..so I understand that whole "lsu flag flying" thing I understand. We have LSU stuff around our house, in our car... and we live in British Columbia, Canada. haha. I was just in LA in feb. In Houma. I've driven from here to Houma before. and just this year we drove from houma to pelican. haha
This is brilliant, you two totally need to film more of "Tour of the Bayou". Hell, Tour Louisiana, even! Oh! Oh! You two should go and take that tour at that haunted house and film it. I adore Louisiana haunted house stories. *sheepish*
But really, that was great. Makes me want to drive on over.
I'm not sure if I'm glad to have come accross this or not...lol...I lived in New Orleans for a year and moved back to Delaware just a couple weeks before Katrina hit, thinking I would never miss the south...but I do...and watching your video just made me miss it more.
I love those goddamned pontoon bridges...especially since I saw a sign posted by one that read something to the effect of "Caution: Substandard Bridge."
Ha. Yeah, almost ALL of them have that "substandard bridge" warning. Makes you feel all cozy and warm as you cross them. I've missed you lady. I was wondering where the hell you've been.
Everything I used to know about the bayou was from a John Fogerty song. ;) That area was beautiful, though! Hey, could you tell me what that song was at 2:15? It's a song from a French commercial over here, and Google is not help. Thanks!
Ah ... that one is "Don't You Just Know It" by Huey 'Piano' Smith & His Clowns. I've always loved that one. You should also check out Clarence "Frogman" Henry. He's another local favorite of mine.
And, even I was gonna say they forgot the "s" in Mes Ami. haha. Wal-marts are like that everywhere you go, or at least I always see people be like, "OMG, I haven't seen you in ages," and they take up the whole aisle with their reunions. Blah!
I love the flavor of your vids, especially this one. I mean, it really is telling of who someone is (not that I think you're a hick, but you know what I mean, right?), where one comes from , and how it molds someone into who he/she is today. So many of us do our vids from our room because we don't have a choice, but this just is such a nice treat to be brought out to see a certain Americana that not to many get to see. Thanks so much for sharing! :)
Ha. No, I got ya. Growing up in that area really did play a major part in making me who I am today. Growing up in such a small town sort of forces you to have a distinct personality. The area also imbibed in me a great love of the outdoors, food, music, culture, and language. I wouldn't trade my experiences there for the world. Thanks for the kind comments. :)
Another great vid man... I had no idea about the bayou... Still don't really but... It does look cool... ;P I wanna hang out and drink beer with you guys... Your fucking hilarious...
Heh. Yeah, his is much more typically "bayou" than mine. Mine is more of a strange mixture of an Alabama drawl, bayou area inflection, and a half-assed attempt at having no accent at all.
First..Not letting truck over, eating from Stubbs hand, the tripod into the church, and possum-skin belts!!!! ILMAO!!!!Second...The music @ 2:14 was great!!!But that ending was just WRONG!!! LOL Thanks for the tour..I loved the bayou!!! Sherry
Whoa! The Bayou doesn't look anything like the way it's portrayed in Swamp Thing. That little chapel would be really good in a horror comic, though; it could be a place of worship for some Voodoo cult.
i do the same exact thing when it comes to letting trucks over. by watching this it makes me realize even more just HOW corporate and obtainable eveything is in southern california.
atleast the shrimp boats look cool. haha.
before you said it i was actually thinking of the practicing outside thing. i imagine it is a lot easier to do that there, in the middle of much of nothing.
i REALLY!!!!! like that bar. and shrimp shed..PLAY SHOW THERE!!!!!! hahaha.
Yeah, unfortunately the Mes Ami (still drives me crazy that they left out the all-important "S" in the name) is dead and gone. There's a new bar across the road from it, but it's more the type of place you go if you're just interested in catching hepatitis or getting shanked in the men's room.
Seriously, the bayou seems like something out of another planet. Then again, I _might_ be affected by the nintendo game Bayou Billy. Haha. Hey! My Morning Jacket on the radio at the end!
StubbsPLee is wearing a Nebraska Cornhusker cap. If it isn't, then somebody else is stealing our N. Great travelogue, I truly appreciated the armpit action to demonstrate just how hot it was outside. The shrimp shack was also quite a moment. Take that Steve Ricks!
Haha. Yeah, I'm familiar with Houston having been through there a bunch of times, and after growing up on "the bayou" proper ... I'd have to say Houston is a totally different thing.
Aw y'all gots teeth. Seriously, that was a lot of fun. That's one of the few states I've never been to. As a drummer I feel your pain with that practice bldg. Holy crap that had to be miserable. Another nice vid, keep 'em coming.
Hey how about showing some of us outlanders a bit more of 'the bayou' in future vids. I for one found it all interesting. Maybe you can explain the whole Cajun and Cajun food thing too!
Awesome video guys! I have been over that way a few times and it brings back crazy fun memories. I loved how you were were so scared to go into the church, it was just so entertaining.. yet completely understandable! Can't wait to see more. =)
Heh. The only reason we were scared to go in there was the swarm of wasps that had gathered by the door. Giles and I are horrified of anything winged that is capable of inflicting pain.
Yeah, I was pretty sure I heard something about wasps. Thank goodness I have never been stung by anything before. I totally agree with you about the evil flying insects... =)
I wish Big Glenn's was open. You guys could've introduced the world to my one-legged Santa-looking uncle. Damn.
few comments:
1) you can see at least one american flag on the bayou, and it's a fucking gigantic one at The Bayou Centroplex in Galliano. ...along with like 12 other flags, which have nothing to do with anything.
2) I didn't meet a Jew until I was 19. There are no Jews on Bayou Lafourche. "Bruh, you ain't Cat'lic?"
3) I've never set foot inside Mes Amis, but I have been inside the Cajun Pitt Stop. In fact, it's where Joe and I met for the first time. Gross and awesome at the same time.
4) The tiny chapel on the way to Fourchon always gave me the heebs.
I admire your work so Much man! Keep It Up! Thought 13min and 6 sec were going to be too long for me to sit and watch but at the end it was too damn Short. Thanks so much for entertaining us. Mad Luv!
Yeah, for a lot of people, being on the bayou is like landing on an entirely different planet. I suppose I'm used to it since I was raised for the majority of my life there.
"We have yo regyalaar bridges, we have this bridge n'other bridge called a pontoon bridge" ahh the Louisiana accent, makes me think of Tabasco fried pork and Lipton tea. Another thing, why would they have the rebel flag flying next to the purple LSU flag? That sounds a little queer to me.
Queer as in STRANGE! I get it! You'd be amazed at the flags they fly around here. I'm pretty sure at one house I saw the rebel flag, LSU flag, P.O.W.M.I.A. flag, and a Kobra Kai flag all flying in the same yard.
I miss the days when the radio was actually COOL. Back when they'd play bands like The Refreshments, Superdrag, Dangerman, Reef, Dovetail Joint, etc, etc.
Not only am I now educated about the bayou, but I "found" StubbsPLee.... any man whos first video on youtube is titled "Pube Confetti"... that's my kind of classy right there
I have family from the bayou and funny we NEVER went back to visit. I was there once as a little girl but don't remember it. Great tour. Just curious, why was Ian in prison?
I wish our law enforcement would spend more time on actual crimes. Cool that you are there to support your friend. Remind him that drugs rarely lead happy places. I am planning on interviewing my dad soon, it is a very cautionary tale, let me warn you. Again, thanks for the tour!
Yeah, the bayou is different than pretty much anywhere else on the planet. The people are sort of "redneck French" ... and the culture of food, appreciation of outdoors, music, is much much more important than anywhere else it seems.
This is not the bayou, the bayou is from larose to golden meadow.

3) I've never set foot inside Mes Amis, but I have been inside the Cajun Pitt Stop. In fact, it's where Joe and I met for the first time. Gross and awesome at the same time.
4) The tiny chapel on the way to Fourchon always gave me the heebs.

oh, pardon me. I spelled "mes amis" properly. I forget that the place of business just doesn't give a fuck.
I've never been to Mes Ami. 'scuse me.

Yeah, I didn't meet a Jewish person until I was around 22 and moved out of state. Down the bayou, you're either Catholic or completely godless.

Woo! Is this some sort of thing where I can keep saving points and then get something really crappy but cool? BTW: Great video!

Great stuff Joe, I love louisiana. I spent a little time in Plaquemine doing a contracting job, they live by their own rules no doubt.

Yeah, for a lot of people, being on the bayou is like landing on an entirely different planet. I suppose I'm used to it since I was raised for the majority of my life there.
endlessjoe 5 years ago
That's so weird. Aside from the cultural differences, it doesn't look THAT MUCH different than upper Wisconsin. That is, the Anti-Bayou.
yieldsigns 5 years ago
Welcome back! Great humor and storytelling, but I was reminded of Steve Irwin's cinematography skillz. :)

"We have yo regyalaar bridges, we have this bridge n'other bridge called a pontoon bridge" ahh the Louisiana accent, makes me think of Tabasco fried pork and Lipton tea. Another thing, why would they have the rebel flag flying next to the purple LSU flag? That sounds a little queer to me.
donkeyjune 5 years ago
I mean that the most non offensive way possible.... crap
donkeyjune 5 years ago
Queer as in STRANGE! I get it! You'd be amazed at the flags they fly around here. I'm pretty sure at one house I saw the rebel flag, LSU flag, P.O.W.M.I.A. flag, and a Kobra Kai flag all flying in the same yard.

Busy with work? Fuck, Joe, I was bored!! XD

Thank ya! Yeah, it's always open, rain or shine. I have no idea whose job it is to tend to that thing.
endlessjoe 5 years ago
I believe it's tended by The Almighty.

Someone is listening to the Refreshments.
angabel 5 years ago
Someone just earned 50 cool points for realizing that we were listening to the Refreshments!
endlessjoe 5 years ago
I didn't know other people liked the Refreshments, that rocks! =)
fourtwenty420 5 years ago
I miss the days when the radio was actually COOL. Back when they'd play bands like The Refreshments, Superdrag, Dangerman, Reef, Dovetail Joint, etc, etc.
*sigh* ...

Great tour. Just curious, why was Ian in prison?
lestyoubejudged 5 years ago
Minor drug offenses. We've forewarned him that if we see him messing with the stuff again, we'll be wailing on him like we were his mama.
endlessjoe 5 years ago
I wish our law enforcement would spend more time on actual crimes. Cool that you are there to support your friend. Remind him that drugs rarely lead happy places. I am planning on interviewing my dad soon, it is a very cautionary tale, let me warn you. Again, thanks for the tour!

I hate it when my friends go to prison. Ugh. Seriously, though.

Half the people I know don't know what "gleaking" is. It's a sad world we live in, man.
samuraimushi 5 years ago
This should be mandatory knowledge.
endlessjoe 5 years ago
Hahaha you said "gleaked". I knew a guy in middle school who was really proud of his ability to gleak on command.
charmed1782 5 years ago
I know it moved up to Illinois cuz I know what it means, but I know they'd have no idea here in NYC what it is. Those poor bastards :p

Interesting stuff Joe, little scary though, it's a lot different from up north here where I grew up and live. You are a baddass mofo! Peace.
shonco 5 years ago
Yeah, the bayou is different than pretty much anywhere else on the planet. The people are sort of "redneck French" ... and the culture of food, appreciation of outdoors, music, is much much more important than anywhere else it seems.
endlessjoe 5 years ago
Loved it. Thanks. I was one of those people who had no idea what a bayou was.
But thanks to you and wikipedia, I am enlightened!
