  • Hated this episode

  • And who makes a series out of a shitty movie? :P

  • he says "who makes a movie out of a series only last 3 episodes?", but Firefly made to 14 episodes. (sorry for my english).

  • @gokuthelegend "performed very well on DVD" is a reference on how firefly performed very well on dvd but had terrible ratings on fox.

  • that is funny, i love firefly but it is funny!

  • hehehe, oh. that hurt me as a Firefly fan, yet made me laugh as an even bigger StarGate fan.

  • what episode was this in

  • its a farscape reference... one of many.

  • @vandal420 Farscape has 88 episodes. Firefly only had a few episodes

and a movie. It is a Firefly reference

  • @wtf0804 13 to be precise, Firefly atleast lasted a full season.

  • @aoinatafanboy84 they had 10 eps that aired on tv 3 that were filmed that didn't air and plans for more beyond the 3 that didn't get made. They only had half a season.

  • @dragongirl4741 You are right, the full amount of episodes for a drama is in the 20's. I was thinking for an animated season. They usually only make 13 per season.

  • @aoinatafanboy84 13 is the norm for a first season run of a show.

  • @panther2552 -.- too many different opinions...I am familiar with a 13 episode stint because most shows I have seen only lasted up to there. I guess I was right to begin with.

  • those who know the SG-1 series know the producers were big fans of Whedon...

  • @laelamarie1 That was one of the great things about SG-1 is all the current day references and 'in' jokes. It served to bring the characters out from a SciFi realm into our daily lives.

  • browncoats ftw

  • HELL YEAH! SG-1!

But I like Firefly exponentially compared to Stargate.

  • I would of taken 9 or 10 seasons of Firefly over Stargate.

  • @TacticalNotIncluded Maybe thats why firefly was cancelled before it got worse and couldn't hold it's own in story for a period of 10 or so seasons. Just sayin.. I liked firefly, but it definitely was not better than the stargate series, but that's just a matter of opinion.

  • @TacticalNotIncluded No thanks mate staregate is forevah

  • @TacticalNotIncluded I honestly must say, for me its a tough call. I wouldnt mind splitting it. 5 and 5 is a good number.

  • @Blasted2Oblivion ding, ding, ding, winna.

  • @TacticalNotIncluded 18 people + you are idiots

  • @TacticalNotIncluded Still, one show had 9 seasons and 3 movies, where the other only had 1 season and 1 movie....

  • @KNIGHTMAREMANIAC 9 seasons of re-imagined TNG episodes.

  • @TacticalNotIncluded I would have taken 5 of both.

  • firefly was 14 episodes, wasnt it?

  • @FpsAmy This is why it's called a reference.

  • it wasnt 3 episodes!it was 12!

  • Comment removed

  • umm the reference was to stargate itself i beleive

  • @FarlosArakalot No it wasn't, the stargate series did not get created till after the movie, in point of fact the very first episode they contact jackson on abidos, who stayed on the planet at the end of the movie. Also they ended up having to explain why they lied in their reports about blowing the stargate up in the first place.

  • I'd take 3 episodes of Firefly over 200 Stargate episodes any day.

  • @richiebabe24 it would be hard to fit 200 episode of stargate in a single day

  • @Kylejnelson88

But damned if I wouldn't try it.

  • @Kylejnelson88 Well, with no sleep, and starting at 12am and going for 24Hours, and counting in the average time of Stargate being about 43 minutes per episode, one could get in 33.48837 episodes in one day.

However, if played on double, or even triple speed, then one could do about 100 episodes.

Personally, my best is only 12....and then I recouped my social life the following week. :D

  • @AndrewDeLong i've watched whole seasons in a day. fml

  • LOL. I totally get this reference now.

  • sheldon from big bang theory is a walking firefly reference

  • When RDA left, the continuation of SG1 without him on the main cast was to be called "StarGate: Command".But Sci-Fi kept pulling on MGM's leg to extend the StarGate: SG1 as a show just so they can have some kind of record in broadcast TV.

Oh and then Sci-Fi turned into Sy-Fy, and airs wrestling! Like, WTF?!

If only these idiot executives knew the power of the Nerd/Geek side! Otherwise shows like The Big Bang Theory would not be so popular and it's chock FULL of sci-fi and comic book references

  • Teal'c knows what's up.

  • @ConstantCrisis maybe hes a browncoat....

  • actually, they were talking about SG-1... the series ended with season 8, but because the DVD sales were a lot better than anyone had expected, they decided to bring the series back for another two seasons.

  • I can summarize the problems with Firefly in one word: River

  • It is so weird hearing Teal'c saying "DVD" lol

  • Wait.......are they talking about Firefly or Enterprise?

  • Teal'c knows about DVD? Teal'c: Indeed

  • firefly had 14 episodes. not 3, so this is not a firefly reference.

  • @AixRush it is called being subtle

  • @AixRush Don't have the facts for this but it only AIRED 3 episodes before they knew it was canceled.

  • @Jamieplanetx oh okay, that would make sense then. thanks

  • Compare Stargate and Firefly and you see the diffrent between mass and class!

  • @Badjokemaker Not really, SG1 was quality Sci fi, atlantis and universe on the other hand. Oh dear!

  • @nekogod Yeah sorry, i think it was just a stupid idea of me to compare both shows. Both are Sci-Fi but in detail the genres are to diffrent. I miss some of the good villains like Ba'al or Apophis.

  • @nekogod

    But I loved Atlantis.....

  • @nekogod SG-1 and Atlantis both rock! Universe was a waste of time.

  • @KieraJayne

Universe ? Magnificent idea, though bit deficiently executed. I enjoyed it nonetheless...

  • @AnteyPL Yeah, they just shouldn't have made it so soap opera-y. I like character development, don't get me wrong. but I agree with you, it was not executed well at all.

  • @WesCambell I see that I'm alittle late on this but, uh, how would it have aired in 08 if this was posted in 06? I'm not trying to be snarky or anything I'm just curious. . . . .

  • @phillipthedinosaur

I've been posting that the original air date was August 18, 2006. I'm not sure why 2008 was brought up.

  • @enzo321:

Any true fan of Stargate knows better then to down talk DJ! Just kidding lol, but he was popular enough to keep coming back now wasn't he...

  • Fox has been repetatively ball kicked for this.

  • @Alexc3217 Not enough times though...Besides, It doesn't appear to be working. We must resort to other means. Chopping them off sounds good to me.

  • You tell him Teal'c!

  • Daniel Jackson, this is why you die so many times.

  • I don't know whether to put this in my SG1 playlist or my Firefly one. decisions, decisions!

  • @MegaScifigirl both. this is the internet. live a little.

  • @hardcorehunter1 Whew, thank you for making that decision for me:-))) I just didn't know what to do. I'm so glad there are people like you in this world! I mean that!:-)))

  • @MegaScifigirl do I detect a hint of sarcasm in your... typing?

  • @hardcorehunter1 Not al all!LOL Sometimes my humor takes strange twists. Sorry No offense inrended. I do need to live a little:-)) HugZ.

  • That's not firefly u asses it's wormhole xtreeme

  • Firefly gets one season and SG1 sticks around for 2 decades. How does that happen?

  • @realdad32

SG-1 was given a proper chance to succeed. I love both series, but Firefly just didn't get the same chance.

  • @realdad32 Easy SG1 wasn't on Fox, both are good shows(well SG1 was until Richard Dean Anderson left). Only thing I would've loved to have seen on S1 was a MacGuyver reference being dropped.

  • @roguelead72 there was one in the original movie, plus Amanda Tapping pulled a related prank on Richard Dean Anderson while filming the Antarctica episode (the one where they get sent there by accident to the second gate)

  • @roguelead72 they did one in the first episode. Carter mentions how they had to MacGuyver a dial home device for their stargate.

  • How can you make so many series' after JUST ONE MOVIE o.0

  • @thethesaurus

    Good ratings?

  • @thethesaurus Richard Dean Anderson.

  • Also, Adria was played as an adult by Morena Baccarin. Who, in spite of this and Anna on the new "V," can play as an adult with me anytime.

  • If it's not a reference (or at least a tribute) to "Firefly," then... to what?

  • NOT a Firefly reference, but good try.

  • It allegedly performed well on dvd.

  • @jemappelledan When they're all talking about Vala being pregnant with her claiming she's not had sex... They all sort of start talking about the religious implications "Well, it has allegedly happened one in human history..." "Really?? Who?" then Teal'c butts in with "Darth Vader" with his deadpan awesomeness. Gets my vote for funniest Teal'c moment.

  • take my love, take my land, take me where i cannot stand....

i dont care, i'm still free, you cant take the sky from me....

BEST SONG EVER. OF ALL TIME.

  • if you'd kept the show running they later made a reference to Farscape...I believe they say something about a Muppet...don't remember it's been a while

  • @TIAAVENDEALANTIN Wow...I forgot that Vala was posing possible ideas and that they actually did a sketch of it...trying to pick an obscure show to copy...can be seen here: watch?v=TDlez_5_sc4

  • Ori vs Asurans, who'd win?

  • I love Firefly as much as the next Browncoat but I think you're hearing what you want to hear. Firefly ran for 12 eps not 3 people. How can this possibly be a Firefly reference? Ok so the 'performed well on DVD' phrase makes sense but still. I think you're all seeing Jesus in your toast if you catch my drift...

  • @anarchotrent In an episode that was dedicated to riffing off of various other shows? Oh, yea, they were going for that shot. It's an injoke, Firefly was a big cult phenom, and so the joke is an easy one for the SG-1 crowd to recognize.

  • the browncoats will rise again!

  • as a browncoat i feel insulted by that allegedly comment

  • Now this is bad when you have other TV networks all saying it was a bad move for you to cancel a good show.

  • what do you mean "allegedly"????

  • Firefly: Infinitely better than SG1

  • @17thknight

I have no idea how you compare a show with 214 episodes to a show with 14.

Would Firefly have gotten even better somehow? Or would it have just sunk to utter mediocrity after another dozen episodes or so?

Well I don't even know your opinion on SG1 anyway, for me, it was ok sometimes, good sometimes, and great sometimes.

  • @Usul573

well, easily... SG-1 had 214 episodes, from which only 14 episodes were excellent (counting douple-episodes as one). where in FireFly there were only 14 episodes, which all were just brilliant...

  • @TranslationX

Well I didn't think some of Firefly's episodes were all that great.

SG1's episodes vary by so much it's difficult to even sort it out.

    Your opinion is your opinion.

  • @Usul573 the only reason Firefly got such low ratings while on TV is because FOX did the world's worst screw ups and aired the episodes in the wrong order. Not just they accidentally swapped 3 & 4 and that was it, it was horrendously out of order, and the pilot episode was one of the last ones to be aired!! Given more time, better advertising, and a much better, less selfish and biggoted company, Firefly would have continued for MANY seasons

  • @FireflyFanatic3x Let's not forget that they put it on at the same day and time as the World Series.

  • 'It allegedly performed well on DVD' Teal'c is so EPIC

  • Ehh... that is a stretch at best. I don't think they're referencing "Firefly" directly here.

    Nice try. ;)

  • That is so bad when other shows have to tell you what a bad move it was to cancel Firefly. Even Stargate SG1 has to remind you.

  • They have DVD in the future?

  • @Nomorebiscuits

Stargate isn't set in the future. Yes, the Stargate took them to other dimensions and times but the home-base was a US military installation in the current. That's why you see things like Dell laptops and Snickers bars.

  • @Ertia I fail forever. Thanks for enlightening me. Guess I need to see the show before opening my mouth ^^"

  • Teal'c is my fucking hero. Thank god he exists...

  • @DanisCoral I was at a con recently at which Morena Baccarin said that the SG-1 guys were Firefly fans (which is why she was Adria) so chances are that was, in fact, a Firefly reference (when combined with what WesCampbell says about the nature of the episode).

  • @mycroftrholmes Hey let's not forget Jewel Stait eventually wound up on SG Atlantis.

  • Fox started considering taking firefly off the air after the first few episodes due to the low ratings it was getting mainly because they were morons and were not showing the episodes in order and therefore all the character development which was happening did not make sense. So in my eyes this is a firefly reference

  • @DanisCoral

The 200th episode of SG1 was filled with references to other shows. The reason Serenity (the movie) even got made was because of the strong sales of the Firefly DVD set. So while yes, technically they're talking about Wormhole X-Treme, I will always believe this is a reference to Firefly given the nature of the episode.

  • @WesCambell I believe that it is mentioned in the DVD commentary what the different references are, and that this is certainly a Firefly reference

  • @WesCambell

    I agree.

3 eps just sounds better in the script.

What other short-lived sci-fi shows fit the description?

Anything less than a season normally doesn't make it to DVD-

that's the part that counts in this clip.

Firefly is the second-highest one day sales record for any DVD on Amazon because the fans rallied to make the film-

we were told that if enough DVD's were sold the film would be made.

    Enough sold,

    enough said.

  • @WesCambell Hahahaha, YES! Like you said. Though they were talking about that one show, I'd like to believe they were referring to all shows that only lasted one season, including Firefly, Valentine, and Cupid.

  • @WesCambell I wonder if thats the cases with SGU?

  • @DanisCoral Actually it is, Brad Wright the creator of Stargate said of this "It's a little nod to Serenity"

  • Firefly lasted an entire season. And it was an awesome show I only started watching after it was ended. Man, I regret not being there to support them when they needed it.

  • um excuse me it was 14 episodes! And it was amazing!

  • Wasn't this episode aired before Firefly was aired?

  • @inamonianim

No, this episode originally aired in August 2006, while the movie Serenity, which obviously came after Firefly, came out in September 2005.

  • @WesCambell My mistake. Thought this was from a pre 2002 SG1 season.

  • @WesCambell

sg1 was always making references to stuff like that... I remember one about that movie where the aliens are burned by water and mel gibson is there.. I forgot its name

  • @WesCambell He is probably thinking about the re-airing of firefly on the science channel.

  • @WesCambell I thought this episode aired in 2008?

  • @OlafurNeal

According to TV.com, this episode of Stargate SG-1, "200", aired August 18, 2006.

  • @WesCambell You are correct, for some reason I always thought that Stargate SG-1 ended in 2008. Idk why just always thought that. :)

  • oh that was a low blow to us browncoats.

  • Was that really a Firefly reference? Did the writers realy mean to talk about Serenity? If it was that's cool but alot of shows do well on DVD but suck on TV. The New Dark Shadows for example or Lone Ranger.

  • @Anaken12 Did Lone Ranger or The New Dark Shadows have theatrical movies thanks to their show's DVD sales?

  • He did NOT just say that. River Tam will go psycho on his ass.

  • i wish both show were still running i just dont see how you can top SG1 i mean everyone knew SGU was gonna fail they should have stuck with SG:A

  • @eaglemike1515 agree with you SG1 was to nothing can over come that but SGU was indeed gona fail it whent from what 10mil fewers to about 2.5 in 5 episodes they should have stayed with SGA indeed and now they are bankrubed th basterds

  • THEY DID NOT JUST GO THERE!

  • this reference is about sg1, not firefly

the whole episode "200 remember when" is a joke on all of sg1

the reason it stayed on the air despite having few viewers after its first 3 seasons was because the dvd sales were one of the highest for almost any show

this has nothing to do with firefly, if you want to see cross show references watch castle

  • @c4codyharlan So this episode didn't have parodies of the Wizard of Oz, Star Trek, and Farscape? The entire episode was all about SG1? Did you even WATCH the episode?

  • @c4codyharlan It's true that SG1 didn't really get good ratings until a few seasons in...

However the show wasn't on DVD until like season 7...

This IS a refference to Firefly, because the movie was being made around the time this episode came out.

  • @c4codyharlan Or Big Bang Theory

  • @c4codyharlan

you're an idiot. it stayed on the air because the channel didn't have any ideas to replace it.fox on the other hand was eager to replace fire fly... SG1 did not have early DVD sales and was made from a movie which was anything but epic

  • If I could travel back in time, I would so insert Firefly references into the Declaration of Independence. "We hold these truths to be self-evident: you cannot take the sky from me!"

  • @DarthPraxus27 But then when Firefly did get made, it wouldn't have any of those references, since the people making the series wouldn't intentionally rip off the United States Constitution or other similar work.

  • @DarthPraxus27 Then they'd be declaration of independence references retard

  • least they had a fucking decent movie

  • Poor advertisement and bad timeslot, sure, but then they also played the episodes way out of order. Plus it does have that low budget look, and that really mattered to some of the higher ups it seems.

  • @LordOfTheGnus steal that comment some more.. i saw it somewhere else

  • @tehBLAX

Uh, you take your meds this morning? For all you know it was also me, and it doesn't make it any less true. Don't be so desperate to try to call people out on everything, especially moot stuff that you can't even prove.

  • @LordOfTheGnus nar i was on the vid just an hour b4 and it wasnt u. bl.

  • I wish people would stop getting all butthurt over a friendly in-joke. Stargate was a good show, and so was Firefly, and the Stargate people would be dippy to insult Firefly anyway, considering how many SG fans are also Firefly fans. Stargate had lots of little in-jokes like that to amuse their fans. It's all in fun, so get a grip, k people? Thankssomuch.

  • @roguefem But... but I /love/ bitching!

Being an SG-1 fan and a Firefly fan, I found the reference both awesome and hilarious.

  • @TeldarinanPictures What do you mean? Yes it was short. But how does that stop it from being the best? I think it IS the best Sci-fi series of all time.

  • Stargate's writers are jealous.

  • great reference:-))

  • Great idea Bring firefly back.....

  • Theres something about Judge that no matter what he says is hilarious, "Indeed" *giggle*

  • @TeldarinanPictures

Actually I think it was the poor advertisment and timeslot, nothing ever does well on thursday nights

  • They were actually referencing SG-1 itself. The first few episodes were slated to come out as a movie, but Showtime picked it back up as a regular series.

  • @eXpriest I could make a long list of points proving against your claim; but I think you're smart enough to know them yourself. Your attempt to present yourself as some grand know-it-all, has instead opened you to mockery.

  • @timbit87 Your attempt to present yourself as a being both wise and benevolent in an attempt to dismiss my point without addressing it is tired and weak. Fact is, Children of the Gods was released originally slated as the start of a series, but was released as a self-contained movie, only to be picked back up by Showtime.

  • It only lasted "three episodes" because FOX is run by dumbasses... *grumble, grumble*

  • @TeldarinanPictures Its the fact that fox was in control of it, they fucked up big time, firefly wouldve been amazing had it aired on a better tv net work.

  • If they filmed even just 1 more season of firefly just imagine how awesome that would be!!

  • Firefly was brilliant. It should have lasted more than 1 season.

  • And yet, none of the higher-rated comments are about Stargate. Sadface.

  • @TeldarinanPictures and the reason it was cut too short was because of crappy timing... it was on at the same time as some other very popular show... But I miss it, and I heard they're starting another season...

  • @abean16

    What? Where'd you hear that?
