No from up here it's quite impossible to predict when betelgeuse will blow itself into oblivion.Maybe it already happened,maybe it will last for another 100,000 years before it finally blows itself into oblivion.
But indeed the star is running out of fuel and losing mass meaning that it has arrived in it's last phase before going supernova but like I said that can take thousands of years.
If the light would reach us in our life time than this means it exploded between 1400 and 1500
Yeah, Reason. I also can't wait. Imagine the number of planets orbiting other stars telescopes will be able to directly observe. Who needs probes when we already have telescopes (such as Hubble) that can take the same images as an unmanned space craft that would have to travel for centuries before it could snap the same pictures?
Lets just hope it doesn`t send a gamma ray to the earth!!!!!!

it will turn into a black hole . Mark my words.

The supernova from R136a1 will be more massive than the one will be from betelgeuse cause R136a1 it's the most brightest star ever discovered.

@48tank
Sorry, but like any puppet, your easily mislead and believe everything the TV tells you.
Its not going to blow up, its a myth and rumor spread around YouTube and the web to sucker astronomy noobs who wouldn't know any better.
So no, "That shit" isn't going to blow up, unless you shove a firecracker up your ass and light it.

That's amazing, I can't wait until the clarity of stellar images is so high that we are able to see further, and smaller objects.

The Earth would fit into our Sun's volume one million times or into Betlegeuse's volume one billion times.
